Chapter 0 should clear up the background issues. Basically, this story treats humans as if they were always part of the world, but went into hiding thousands of years ago.

Here's the link. It takes place between The Ending of The End and the flashback in The Last Problem. It closely follows the cannon, but incorporates strong Action and Combat elements. It inserts humans, but treats them like they were always part of the word. They also have magic: Elemental powers based on Fire, Water, Earth, Air, and Ether, along with many other elements derived from them like poison, iron, vortex, and time.

Soon after finishing the series, I started a post-series fanfic taking place between The Ending of The End and the flashback in The Last Problem. The main premise is that the Mane 6 journey to vast underground cavern called The Heart of the World in an attempt to retrieve the ones their ancestors formed the world's first friendship with, the humans, who left on account of a long-forgotten friendship problem between them. Beyond that, it's more action and combat-focused than the source material. So far, I've got a one-page prologue, a short Chapter 0 and five chapters ranging from 12 to 14 pages each.
