it was still an important aspect of the episode, because what if Twilight was stronger than her? the episode would have been done in 22 minutes, and the conflict would have been short and boring. and to be honest, a lot of what happened was more of Starlight having the initiative due to planning; in war, those who strike first, most likely win the battle. while it's a shame that she and a lot of bad guys lack in depth backstories, for the sake of the episode, you can only do so much even...

even in a two parter. and the extent of this episode looks like it could have filled a 2 hour movie if you really think about it, if you wanted an in depth look at all the alternate realities, and more time for a better flashback of Starlight's past, because that was a little bit starved of an event to cause her to become selfish and evil, that could have been painted better, along with her coming to great magical power, that would have been nice too, because you would think someone would...

notice a powerful unicorn, like Celestia or Luna, or even Discord. even so, considering this was a Josh Haber episode, it was good enough anyway, and was flashy enough that i will try to forgive the plot holes.
