Good multiplayer games have at least a few hundred hours of replay value, I've spent ~500 over every CoD title, ~2000 on TF2, and over 10k on Runescape.

Presumably this wasn't even a good game. Why waste so much time on it?

I don't really get playing games for that long though. My interest always fades eventually. There's too many new games out there to play one for such a long time.

  2. I'm not really in the habit of buying things I might regret. I know full well what I will and won't enjoy.

That said there was a collector's edition for Growlanser Generations I kinda regretted buying at the time simply because I had already bought and beat the game a month before. Buying games twice isn't something I enjoy doing. I was being kind of a fanboy though. That series is among the best games I've played in many years.

Overwatch, because I couldn't find a single moment of enjoyment in it after a good 1 or 2 hundred hours

Good god. I can't even play games I like for more than eighty hours. Why would you play a game you didn't like for ten hours, let alone two hundred.

  3. I finished Tenchi Muyo Ryo-Ohki. I liked the ideas behind it but they really needed several more episodes to explain shit. A lot went completely unexplained.

There's still one series left in the original Tenchi timeline, Tenchi Muyo GXP, but as far as I know it focuses on new characters so I won't likely get any explanations. It's unfortunate.

Tenchi Muyo is probably the series that got me into anime way back on the mid-90s when it played on Cartoon Network. I didn't get to see more than a few key episodes for many years and even when I did I only saw the original series.

What I'm saying is watching this series in its entirety has been a lifelong goal of mine. There's a lot of different series' in it with lots of alternate timelines.

Now I'm on to one of those new timelines in Tenchi Universe. The way the cast meets and all of the situations they find themselves in are completely different. So far I'm enjoying it and seeing new sides to old characters just enhances my love for this show.

  4. In general I wait for ultimate or GotY editions to get games that have lots of DLC. I don't like to shell cash out for stuff. The only time I've ever really done so was  the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow games. They were expensive ($10 for each one, for each game) but I definitely thought they added to the game.

That's what I'd consider the worst just from the fact that they were overpriced as fuck.

Any DLC that comes in new versions is a huge plus for games I've yet to play. Destiny coming with all the big story DLCs, Dragon Age: Origins' Ultimate Edition, and Dragon's Dogma's Dark Arisen version are all amazing.

In Destiny's case I'd have been suuuuper disappointed in the game if I had just played the base game. It kinda needs the Taken story arc to feel like a complete story. Unfortunately the Iron Banner stuff seems largely useless except to give a reason for powered up enemies.

  5. Almost nothin'. Ever since Princess Sally (the comics version specifically, the cartoon Sally ain't got nothin' on the comics version) and Minerva Mink were introduced to me as a child I knew.

Though I don't take part in any furry community I've always found anthro characters very attractive. To this day furry webcomics are often among my favorites since they have such characters and aren't restricted by publisher guidelines.

  6. Adjusting to the changes from the original Tenchi OVAs to the new stuff is strange. So many new voices for characters I've come to know in their old voices and the animation is newer since there was at least a ten year gap between them.

Ryoko is probably the hardest one to adjust to. Her original voice was absolutely perfect for her. Now she's done by someone who typically does young boys in video games and anime so she sounds so strange.

That's pretty weird. How many of it's episodes did you watch?

I read the manga mostly. The Buggy The Clown arc, the cat claw pirate captain, parts of Nami's home town, the part where they recruit Sanji, etc.

I also saw bits and pieces of the Alabasta story arc and the part where they recruited the deer guy in the anime.

I've seen enough to know that I'll likely never watch the show in its entirety.

  8. Cosmic Star Heroine. Same creators as Cthulhu Saves The World and the Penny Arcade RPGs. They always know how to make smooth battle systems. They make a point to take out a lot of the archaic bullshit RPGs still cling to and always have well-balanced battle systems that are easy to exploit but are satisfying to pull off high damage.

Their levels and theming are also well-crafted. They usually make it obvious which path leads to story and sometimes have amazing designs like the zombie town in Cthulhu Saves The World where the walls of the dungeon are literally the zombies themselves swarming through the streets.

  9. I've mever particularly been able to get into One Piece. Of all the lomg running series' at the time it's the only one that couldn't grab me. Case Closed, Bleach, Naruto, Sailor Moon, Yugioh, Digimon? Yup. Never One Piece though.

That's not a bad thing, as long as you're not hurting anybody's feelings or trying to make people feel bad for having opinions, which you aren't.

I've  never intentionally hurt someone's feelings but I don't go out of my way to avoid it either. I say what I mean to say and then I leave it be.

It's OK to have opinions. I don't expect you to like what I like or to hold the same values as everybody else when it comes to what makes a good character. Character development and believability is vital for me, but it doesn't have to be for you.

    It seems we agree.

    But I'm argumentative by nature. <__< >__> :P

I see where you're both coming from, @Discordian and @EightBit, but everyone has their own opinion ay.
I found OPM pretty good myself, though there is an obvious difference between it and the other series, simply because of the "one punch" rule, I can see why people would dislike it.

Well of course everyone has their own opinions. There'd be little room for discussion otherwise. :P

Not really, because what's going to happen is not always apparent. More than once, I've seen characters forced to retreat and develop both physically and emotionally if they're ever to stop the enemy, and sometimes, the entire fight, and the struggle within it, is necessary for the personal growth of the character.

I just don't see growth as a character as a necessity for a character to be great. The character is at their best when they're kicking ass imo. The rest of the stuff is what makes it boring.

On topic: I finished So You Thought There Never Is A Girl Online? I hope there's a season 2 at some point. I hate this 12 episodes thing in anime. It's almost never enough and a looooot of them end of cliffhangers or pseudo-cliffhangers.

Been rewatching Tenchi Muyo since. I've never seen past the original 13 OVAs so I'm curious to see what happens.

That's your opinion, I suppose. I would find a flawless character to be boring, usually. The struggle to win brings tension to the situation and leaves us wondering what will happen next, which is why anime like Hellsing disappoint me so much. There's no tension and no guessing involved, so the battle scenes, in my mind, become pointless.

Is it not equally as pointless to have a character struggle when you know they're going to win because plot armor though? :P

My friend showed me the Deadman Wonderland OVA last.

This show has one of the best openings of all time. Too bad the series ended on a massive cliffhanger.

Wolf's Rain, actually a re-watch, given I didn't get to finish it the first time.

I legit cried like a baby at the last couple episodes of this series. I do not cry. Ever.

The fact that he's strong isn't the point, though. One Punch Man is a parody about overpowered characters/Mary Sues. The point is that he's overpowered and doesn't want to be, unlike other characters who try to get as much power as possible. He wants a fight. What he doesn't want is to kill his opponents in one punch, and in turn, the audience wants this to happen so that the fight scene lasts longer than 10 seconds, which is why his reactions are comedic.

The mark of a good show is normally character development and development of abilities. After all, how does a character remain relevant and understandable to the audience if they don't struggle like the rest of us? This is why so many overpowered characters in anime, manga and fanf iction are looked down upon, and for good reason. The point of One Punch Man is that this is turned on its head, and instead of developing his abilities, his fully-developed power becomes his greatest flaw, which he wishes desperately to rectify. This flaw results in results in boredom, frustration and desperation on Saitama's part. In turn, focus is placed on the abilities and personal/emotional growth of those around him. I hope that this makes sense to you. :please:

And yet I find myself bored with fights where people have to struggle. I understand the point but I have never agreed with the logic that a character has to struggle to be interesting. I find it boring.

I actually want characters that are perfect at what they do. It's because Saitama can finish every fight with a single punch that I find him fun and interesting.

    I just watched Mushishi myself:D

I watched this anime ten years ago. At this point I remember next to nothing. I should rewatch it at some point.

I've given up on dubs myself since i feel that dubs cannot overtake the original cast in terms of quality.

Today I watched The Devil is a Part timer

and started Mahoutsuka no Yome: Hoshi Matsu Hito and Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou

I'm the opposite. I can't stand to listen to a language I don't understand. Any emotional context is utterly lost in that language barrier.

The only time I don't watch dubs is when it literally isn't a choice.

One Punch man, along with a few scenes from Hataraku Maou-sama. I've seen the anime, but there are many scenes that are worth a re-watch, and the light novels are works of genius.

One Punch Man is amazing. I wish more anime would have truly powerful characters like Saitama. I'm so sick of the "there's always someone stronger" thing. Maybe I just want to watch the good guy win for once.

TBH, I prefer never born in this world that human ruins everything :P

Humans are also what make everything wonderful. We live in a society where the average person has access to all the information he'll ever need, a society that pushes equality and tolerance to the point of fanaticism, a society where technology can make the most minute of details, a society where we have a surplus of entertainment, food, and people to interact with.

We may have destroyed a lot on our path but we've created so much more.
