      You could try Fullmetal Alchemist, but it's probably a bit dark and violent for something to watch with your mom.

      Ooh, well, if you're looking for something age-appropriate but extremely tearjerking and horrifying, try "Bokurano: Ours". It's a nice mecha and sci-fi mix, good if you're just getting into the genre.

      If you're looking for a comedy, "Hetalia" is good, as it's also (semi) educational, but there's loads of yaoi and some naughty jokes.
