After a moment, the door crack open and Tempests aunt peeked through, she didn't hide the look of surpriseon"Tempest? What are you doing here? How come you're not in school? Who's this?"

"You're very sweet, you know." Whisper sniffled. She had no idea how much worse it could get.

Tempest smiled slightly, and sighed. "I got out early, seeing as how I don't have any classes after lunch, and this is Dan, one of the people I met today who I could consider a friend. Is Xena home, or should we wait? I kind of have to talk to him about something important." The teen wasn't exactly comfortable with either situation, but the possibilities were still running through his head.

 

(I wasn't joking when I said Tempest didn't have any classes. He's that smart. )

He shrugged. "I'm nothing special. I just really care about you. And I hate seeing someone I care about upset. Plus, you're so much prettier when you smile." He gave her a quick kiss on the cheek. "Now, I don't know about you, but I didn't really get to eat with everything that's been going on. How about I make something for us?"

Dart walked around the courtyard, not really seeing Rush and Whisper there. Sighing, he figured they must be in their dorms. He doesn't have their numbers so he can't text them. Closing his eyes and sighing, he went over to the main office and asked the receptionist where Rush's dorm was. It would seem weird if he asked where Whisper's was as well.

After getting the information he needed, Dart walked to Rush's dorm and knocked on the door, not really knowing if he was there or not.

"He's...home. He's in his office." his aunt stepped out of the way, allowing them entrance into the home; looking around quickly before shutting the door. She assumed Tempest would make his way back to his uncles office alone. or with his friend.

Whisper looked up at the mention of food, but then the sound of someone knocking quickly snatched it away.

Tempest nodded, and walked in. "Thank you." He said, noticing his aunt's evident nervousness. "I wonder if that has something to do with Lyoko." He thought, before knocking on the office door to be polite. After a few seconds, he walked in and noticed that his Uncle was on the computer checking some documents for work. "Hey Xena, can I talk to you for a second?"

He turned off the computer screen before turning to face his nephew and friend. He looked from Tempest to Dan and a million things ran through his mind. But Xena kept collected and cleared his throat; motioning for them both to sit down.

 

"What's wrong Tempest? Something happened at school? Are you low on funds already?"

Tempest sighed and sat down. "No, but I'll be back in a week for that.The funds, I mean" He said, adding a bit of his own humor to the situation. "I might as well get to the chase. Does the word Lyoko ring any bells?" The teen had some thought as to what was coming, and was ready to face the storm.

Before they could continue their conversation, there was a knock on the door. "I should get that. Just a minute." He walked across the room and opened the door. "Oh, it's... you. Sorry, but I don't think I ever caught your name. Anyway, what's up? Did you need something?"

Dart was scratching the back of his head when Rush opened the door. He smiled at him and answered his question. "Hi. My name is Dart, mate. I'm the guy who went in the ambulance with Meghan. I'm just letting you know that Meghan is going to be fine. She's staying in intensive care overnight and then she's being moved to a regular ward. If you know of any other friends that she has do you think you can pass the message on?" Dart told the both of them giving a slight wave to Whisper. "Also, I'm sorry if I interrupted anything."

Whisper threw her arms around Dart, happy for the news and that he was okay. "I'll be sure to tell everyone and get her notes." She quickly remembered to exchange numbers with Dart, in case anything should happen.

His cheek twitched at the mention of the name and he finally took notice in Tempests strange outfit "Never have. Is it a video game of some sort?". It was obvious he already wanted the conversation over.

Rush nodded, relieved for the news, though a bit bothered by the interruption. "Thanks. Now you should probably go. I'm not sure how long I can stand to see my girlfriend wrapping her arms around another guy. I'll see you around, though. You're an alright guy in my book."

Tempest sighed, and pinched the bridge of his nose. "No. Try a virtual world with four sectors that you and my dad worked on a few years ago." He said, his voice hinting at his growing impatience. "I assume there's more to this story than what I already know, so why don't you give me the full explanation."

"You're coming up with wild fantasies. Are you on drugs?" Xena stood and went to busy himself with his file cabinet.

X.A.N.A thrummed patiently; Amber held within Carthage. A secret sector that served like a cortex within X.A.N.A. She was held within a wall; Amber had been much easier to catch then Aelita. Now, he needed her to stay out of his way. He needed more power; X.A.N.A had others hubs hidden across the world but could not reach them. He was far too weak.

 

They left someone behind. These kids were reckless; X.A.N.A liked it. Quietly, he sent a Guardian to detain the wandering Rick.

Whisper pinched Rush. "He's my friend, I was just worried!". She went to apologize to Dart but lost her train of thought when all the lights began flickering on and off.

Tempest grit his teeth in anger, and pulled out his laptop. "I was really hoping I wouldn't have to do this, but you've forced my hand." He said, before playing the video he had watched earlier with audio. Their names were clearly heard. He then got up and locked the door before his uncle could escape. "Someone is trapped in the computer. Someone who I care about, and I'm not about to see her suffer because I had a lack of information. I know about XANA. Why didn't you tell me about this. Did that thing cause the crash. Did that thing kill my dad, your bloody brother." At this point, Tempest was screaming and a few lights flickered and one bulb even shattered. He didn't care, though.

Rush chuckled a little.  "I know. But we were finally spending some nice time alone together, and you're supposed to be holding me like that right about now. And I was just kidding anyway. Mostly." It wasn't until he finished that he realized the lights were flickering.

Dart hugged Whisper back then stepped away from her. "No worries man. I got no interest in Whisper anyway. Just glad I got the message across." Dart said and was about to turn away to head back to his own dorm when the lights started to flicker. "Something wrong with the lights?"

Xena became deathly pale and then sighed. "Your father...Tempest...he designed Lyoko. At first it was meant to train soldiers for combat. Increase their skills. The CIA thought it was a ridiculous idea...but he built it anyway." His uncle sat back down; looking distant "We ran a test on some kids a while back, came up with a virus. It called itself X.A.N.A. It tried destroying the world...I thought...I thought they got rid of him."

"Uhm..." Whisper stood back, sneaking her hand into Rushs'. "Maybe just some work being done...?" but she already had a sneaking suspicion.

 "Hmm, secret government project huh? Cliche, but plausible. How did you get rid of the virus last time because as far as we can tell, its sentient, and very smart." Dan said questioningly. He had to know what to do to beat this thing without shutting down the computer completely and this man may know how to accomplish that.

Rush squeezed Whisper's hand gently. "Probably just that. No reason to worry. Right, Dart? After all, what else would it be? Anyway, I'll see you later. I was about to cook something up for Whisper before you came, so if you'll excuse us..." Rush knew there may well be something up at the factory, but it was probably best not to get Dart involved. And that meant getting him to leave.

"No secret. The government didn't undertake it. It was through private funding that he built the computer. Sentient...? X.A.N.A back then was more a nuisance than a real threat. Has he gained intelligence...?" Xena replied with a slight tone of awe.

 

He looked at his nephew "Your father was very protective of his work; which ultimately led to his death. He had notes, hidden ones about the secrets of Lyoko. Somehow, the CIA received a tip about your fathers work. The crash...they were looking for them."

Whisper nodded quickly "Oh yes. Very hungry all of a sudden. See you later Dart!". She smiled and leaned forward closing the door with a finger.

"Yeah, probably some work getting done. Anyway, I can clearly see when I'm not wanted. See you later then." Dart said as Whisper closed the door, walking back to his dorm with his hands in pockets, he wondered why they suddenly acted like they didn't want him there anymore. It was probably something private but there may be more to it then that. Pausing at his dorm door, he thought about it and decided to head out into the courtyard for some fresh air as well as to clear his head.

As soon as the door was closed, Rush turned back to Whisper, speaking in a hushed tone. "You don't think it might be something to do with the factory, do you? Should we go check it out? Or maybe we should find the others who were there? I don't really know how this stuff works. It's your call."

Tempest sighed and calmed down. "Sorry. I didn't mean to get so... violent. I wonder who sent the tip, though." He said, a list of possibilities running through his head. "As for the kids, apparently the cycle started over and I'm the one that caused it." The teen then told his uncle everything that had transpired over course of the past few days, including the part where he was temporarily controlled by XANA while he was in Lyoko. Tempest was a bit hesitant to tell them about the headaches, but a better thought came to mind. "Would it be possible for a person to gain the same powers they have in Lyoko in real life?"

Genesis was snapped back into reality when her phone buzzed with a message; lazily she outstretched a leg and dragged her phone close enough to grav it.

After a while of trying she gathered no response from the unknown messenger. They had known her apparently. "Are they talking about these dusty things...?" she said while glancing at the notebooks.

He rubbed his temples in annoyance at Tempest "I had no idea that you would find it! How could you be so ignorant Tempest?! If what your friend and you are telling me is true then X.A.N.A is gaining an intelligence we cannot imagine. How long until he figures out how to hack into the military grid?"

 

"There had been mild cases of some power carrying over but it never stayed that long. This time around I can't be sure."

"My call? I don't want it to be my call!" she was frazzled. Maybe it was just a small power outage, maybe work really was being done and she was freaking out for no reason. But right then, the lights burned low for a few moments longer before flickering back on again.
