'Trottingham?' The Doctor asked before realizing something. If this was Earth in a different time, England might not even exist. How did he not think of that? Nobody ever said there wasnt another anchor here, in this time, in this place! He sighed and followed Derpy.

 

'Nevermind the map. Lets just get back to Ponyville. Ive realized a very, very, very large problem with trying to get back to my friends...' he said, still disappointed in how he couldnt  figure out that this might not even be Earth at all. They didnt have cars, he hadnt seen any other technology like a phone or even a bike, and Derpy seemed to have a problem with her eyes yet didnt seem afraid to approach someone. Wouldnt she hesitate at the very least because she was 'different'?Though like she had said nobody here was racist or discriminating. This most definitely wasnt the Earth he knew.

He asked about Trottingham, but Derpy only shrugged. She'd never been there; she just knew there were some ponies in town from there. He said to forget about the map though because he'd just realized a big problem about trying to find his friends. She slowed down a bit in her flight so he wouldn't have to run so fast. "Just a fair warning, if a pink earth pony with a curly mane and tail sees you, she'll probably scream and run off. Her name's Pinkie Pie. You're new in town I know that much, so you'll be getting a welcome party at Sugarcube Corner or someplace she sees you going from her." It was only fair to warn the stallion of such a thing.

(More Doctor Who stuff. If the TARDIS/Doctor is ever lost he can go back to a time anchor. So if something breaks, like the TARDIS, while its in flight it goes to an anchor.)

 

'A pink one? That's an odd color fo...actually, nevermind. Thank you for the heads up but i doubt anything can surprise me now...' he said a bit sadly. He wouldn't get to his companions so it was now up to him to start looking for the problem. It wasn't like the TARDIS to suddenly stop working, especially if he was traveling. But what if it wasn't the TARDIS? Maybe a force here in this 'Equestria' was messing up his TARDIS, but what could it be? There was only two things that could really stop it, and that was another TARDIS or Timelord. But there weren't any others of those...

 

'So once we get to Ponyville, where next? You should tend to your business first. I have a feeling ill be stuck here for a while anyway...don't suppose you'll have another TARDIS there.'

The stallion thanked her for the heads up but said not much would surprise him. Derpy noted the sad tone in his voice, maybe because he wouldn't be able to find anypony he knew. She should tend to her business once they got to Ponyville, but didn't know what to do next since he figured he'd be stuck here for some time. Derpy's expression became worried at his gloomy mood. "Oh, please don't be sad Doctor! I don't like to see friends sad. Maybe we can find something fun to do! There's always lots of stuff to do in Ponyville. It just depends on what you like to do for fun." She thought it better to distract him, or at least try to, then try to solve his problem since she wouldn't be a whole lot of help with it. Derpy didn't even know what a Tardis was. One of the princesses in Canterlot might know, but it would be next to impossible to get an audience with them especially right now due to the fact they were getting ready for a royal wedding that would be happening shortly, as in only a week or so.

The Doctor looked up

 

'Hmm? Oh, im not sad...just...mad, i suppose.' he responded. 'The TARDIS has never acted up like this and i cant even get to the people who always helped me.' the stallion said with a sigh. 'Besides, i dont do much for fun. Im always traveling though i like to do puzzles. Thats my version of fun i guess.' 

 

The Doctor looked up towards an object sticking out from a nearby mountain. It loked like the mountain but seemed a lighter. He waved his hoof at it, still wondering how the ponies here got anything done wwith them.

 

'I dont suppose thats part of the mountain. Looks like something was built up there.' he asked, trying to change the topic from his companions. He didnt want to think about them anymore. No use thinking about something you cant have.

"There's someplace in Ponyville that let's you solve puzzles. I've just...never been to it," Derpy replied, "Maybe you need to broaden your fun-scope a little?" Ah, but he changed the topic quickly, pointing a hoop toward the distant mountain in the North with the white buildings sticking off the side of it.

 

Derpy's gaze turned to it, and she smiled brightly. "Oh that? That's where Canterlot is, where Princess Luna and Princess Celestia live in their castle. They raise the moon and the sun from there, respectively, most of the time. There's gonna be a wedding there really soon for their niece."

The Doctor became curious at that. They raise the sun and the moon?

 

'But...how can they do that? Raising the sun and the moon? That doesnt even seem possible! I dont know how you could...I mean, why? Couldnt the sun and moon raise and lower on their own? Has anybody actually left them like that?' he asked. Surely they raised and lowewwred on their own. The people...er, ponies... must just beleive they raise and lower the moon. 

 

Or perhaps they actually did. It mentioned there was magic here so maybe they raise and lowered it, just when they wanted to. That seemed reasonable.

 

'But yes, has anybody tried to make them raise and lower on their own?'

"I'm no unicorn, so I don't understand the intricacies of how their magic works," she replied, "I just know that the princesses are very powerful." She shrugged. She wasn't going to lie and act like she knew more than she did. Her daughter couldn't even do magic yet so Derpy had yet to bother studying about it. "I dunno where you're from Doctor, but it's never worked like that. As far back as there have been unicorns magic has always been used to raise the sun and the moon. Back before Celestia and Luna assumed the roles, unicorns raised the sun and moon with their magic together. I dunno why it works like that, it just does. What does 'anybody' even mean?"

 

They were in Ponyville by now and ponies were giving the pair strange looks. Derpy smiled and lowered her head a bit, landing down beside the Doctor at a walking pace, and the ponies outside continued on milling about the routines.

'Oh...a term i use...' The Doctor responded. He watched as they entered the town. It seemed like part of Earths past. So if he was here on Earth me must have gone back in time. It looked very much like the 16 and 1700s. As he walked he surveyed the...ponies around him. It still felt odd to say that though he figured it would become natural soon enough. As he looked over them he noticed something. A...branding? Like how you brand a cow?

 

'Whatre those pictures and symbols on their backsides for?' he asked as they walked through Ponyville.

"The pictures on their--? Oh! You mean our cutie marks," she replied, realizing what the Doctor was asking about. She kept her voice at a level only he would hear so as not to attract the usual strange looks she tended to get due to her various accidents around town. She was going to try hard not to cause any this time, though with how clumsy Derpy was one was inevitable at some point. "All ponies in Equestria earn them at some point, after discovering what their special talent is." She still figured he had some weird kind of amnesia, so she was just going to go along with it and reteach him everything about being a pony. "I've got mine and so do you, just like most adult ponies have them."

'So it shows what youre good at? Thats an int-wait, me?' The Doctor said surprised, looking towards his cutie mark. 'But that cant be! Im not...' he whispered, hoping not to attract attention. That's the last thing he wanted. He stared at the hourglass. It seemed appropriate but odd. True, he had been turned into a pony, but to have everything they had like he'd been here all his life.

 

'But...what does that mean im good at? Sure it fits me, but it still doesnt make sense...' he said, looking over at her bubble cutie mark. 'Yours doesnt make sense either...why are they...bubbles?'

Derpy shrugged when the Doctor asked what his cutie mark meant he was good at, turning down a different street that was far less crowded than the one they were on. He ended up following after the pegasus to get an answer out of her. "I dunno... Sometimes it's not always clear. But an hourglass, umm, maybe clockmaking? Clockwork? Time? I can't tell you that. All ponies in Equestria get their at some point, like I said."

 

The Doctor then asked what what her bubble cutie mark meant. Derpy's wings started flapping to make her airborne again, but she only hovered maybe half a foot off the ground. She scratched her head with her hoof awkwardly. "I um, I don't ,uh... I don't really remember, what my, um, what my special talent is. I don't remember what it's supposed to represent..."

The Doctor turned down the street with her onto the emptier one and nodded. 'Yes...time i suppose...' It still made little sense to him as to what it represented but he figured it wasnt important. He wasnt an actual pony anyway. Well, he was, sort of.

 

He was suprised when she said she didnt remember. 'How do you not remember? That must be one of the most life changing processes for every pony around, is it not?' he asked. How do you forget what your talent is? Thats the human equivalence of forgetting your name, or where you live, or any number of things!

Derpy's eyebrows furrowed a bit at his questions about her forgetting what her cutie mark was for. "Well, yes it is, but I just don't know about mine. I just can't remember. Whenever I try to I just come up blank, and nopony else I've ever asked seems to know..." She wasn't liking the turn the conversation was taking. "It's not that big a deal to me. Lots of ponies have kind of obscure cutie marks. I'm not the only one."

The Doctor nodded. She seemed uncomfortable, no point to keep asking about it. Besides, like she had said, many had obscure marks. He didnt even know what his was for, he couldnt blame her for having an obscure cutie mark if he didnt even know his talent when it was right in front of him!

 

'Where are we going? Your home i assume?' he asked, changing the subject.

Her home? Oh goodness, was that where they wee supposed to be headed now? Derpy was starting to feel like a feather brain now. Maybe since he was new she could get away with taking a longer way back to her cottage. It was near Sweet Apple Acres, off to the side on its own really.

 

"Sure, my home," she replied. Derpy turned own another street that would take them back around but avoided the crowded main street entirely. "Are you hungry Doctor? I think I still have some muffins left at home that I made just the other day."

The Doctor nodded absentmindedly. 'Yes, I guess I am. Hadn't thought about anything other than getting my TARDIS working...' He followed her to where she was leading him. 'Are you sure though? I feel I've been a burden enough moving you from place to place to solve problems that you aren't even involved in.' He said with a small sigh. Why couldn't the TARDIS just work? It was getting frustrating. He just wanted to solve it and leave. He was clumsy, changed, stuck, and now aggravated.

Derpy blinked in response to the Doctor asking if she was sure about the offer since he felt he'd already burdened her enough dragging her all over the place. "Why would it burden me to help a friend in need? You're obviously lost; it wouldn't be right for me to not help out in whatever way I could," she replied. Derpy smiled. "Friends just do that right? I can't really fix things, but I can at least give you a full belly and someplace to sleep if you need one."

 

She led the way out of town and toward a small field that sat near one of the boarder of Sweet Apple Acres. A humble looking cottage sat perched amidst the green grass, and to the side of it was a fenced carrot patch, where a yellow pony with a curly orange mane and equally so tail had on a gardening hat and was watering her carrot plants. "Oh, guess Carrot Top's back from work," Derpy said absently.

The Doctor nodded. 'Yes, I suppose. I'm just normally a wanderer...the man with no home...' He said as they walked. He looked up onto the cottage. It wasn't anything different from what many of his companions had. Well, except they weren't equines living on Earth-or what might be Earth-in a small village. It still seemed odd. He had mostly encountered bipedal species. That's not to say he hadn't seen others, but still.

 

He noticed the other pony working in the small garden. So they must have a large farming-based economy here. He figured it would be resource gathering as they seemed to be preindustrial.

 

'Carrot Top? I assume that's the roommate you mentioned earlier, correct?' He asked, smiling at the name. Not only did they have marks representing what they did, they also had names like that.

Derpy felt bad for the Doctor, though she had no idea what a man was. She couldn't imagine what it was like to be without a home; it had to be awful. "Well, if you ever need a place to sleep or anything, you're more than welcome to stay over. We don't have an extra room, but the sofa has a fold out bed in it that's pretty comfortable You could use that if you want."

 

After Derpy pointed out Carrot Top being home, the Doctor asked if that was the roommate that she had mentioned earlier. She glanced at him with her good eye, noticing his smile. She didn't know it was due to the name she'd told him, but it was good to see him in a better mood. He looked much more handsome with a smile. 

 

"Yeah, that's her. Her real name's Golden Harvest, but she doesn't really like to be called that, so everypony calls her Carrot Top as a nickname.," she explained. Derpy's attention turned back toward cottage as they arrived at the front gate of a white picket fence. "Carrot, I'm back!" Derpy called. The yellow-furred pony looked up from beneath the wide brimmed hat she had on to rveal a pair of bright green eyes. "Hey Derpy!" she greeted, noticing the Doctor as well, "Who's your new friend? I don't think I've seen a stallion like him around before."

The Doctor noticed her eyes again. The odd crossed eyes. They were odd, but charming at the same time. She just seemed nice with them. Shaking the thought from his head he followed her into the little home. 'Didnt you say there was another pony living here? Can't recall what his or her name was but I heard you mention three of you...' He asked as he entered into the garden behind Derpy.

 

When the golden colored pony asked who he was he smiled. 'Oh, me? I'm just the Doctor!' He said with a smile. He also noted her word choice. Stallion. He thought it sounded...fitting? He couldn't describe it but it seemed appropriate considering the world he was in.

"I...never mentioned there were three of us living here..." Derpy replied, trailing off and looking at him funny. She hadn't mentioned Dinky once yet. She'd thought about it, but she doubted the Doctor could read minds. 

 

After she greeted Carrot and the earth mare did the same before asking about the stallion, he introduced himself. Carrot seemed very interested and dropped her trowel to take a break and go see him closer. The yellow mare's eyes swept over the Doctor before she pulled Derpy aside. "So, he your new coltfriend? He's quite handsome," she whispered to the grey pegasus.

 

Derpy shoved Carrot off. "He is not. You know I don't date. Besides, I just met him like half and hour ago at best," she muttered back before approaching the front door. Derpy paused with her hoof on the handle to look at her best friend. "Hey Carrot, would you like me to bring a muffin out to you?" The other mare shook her head. "Nah I'm good. Had one earlier, but there should be at least half a dozen left if you don't raid the fridge again. I'll just leave you two alone." Derpy puffed out her cheeks indignantly before she let the Doctor inside and led him through the living room to the kitchen across from the front door, going to the fridge to pull some of the fluffy baked treats out.

'Nevermind that then...not yet I suppose.' The Doctor added under his breath. He heard the two whisper and Derpy shoved the other away. He swore he heard the word colt though. Following Derpy inside he moved into the living room. It seemed nice actually. For being pre industrial they seemed to have very human standards. She moved over to the fridge and seemed to go through it.

 

'What do you have in there, Derpy?' He said as he placed his belongings down on a table. It was t much. Just his coat, his sonic screwdriver, and a tie.

Derpy looked at the Doctor with a very weird expression when he asked what was in the fridge. "Food. What else would be in there?" she asked. She even opened the door wide to show him. It was full of food and drink; fruits like apples and oranges, and all sorts of vegetables. There were bowls of chocolate pudding, and the plate of six rather large muffins Derpy had promised wrapped in plastic. There were drinks on the door too; milk, a couple different types of juices, some iced tea.

 

Lifting the plate in her mouth carefully, Derpy dropped back to all fours after being in her reared up position, kicking the door closed lightly along the way. She set it down on the counter, and turned to the stallion. "I'll heat a couple up for you. They taste much better warm." The mare pulled two of them off the plate and set them on a new one she pulled out after speaking, and into the microwave they went.

 

"There anything else you want Doctor?" She didn't mind at all if he wanted something more. He was her guest after all, so she'd likely insist if he said no because she knew guests always wanted more than they got but most were too polite to ask.

The Doctor thought for a moment. 'No...I mean, you could always hide bodies I guess...but let's not revisit New Earth...' He whispered to himself, remembering the whole New Earth incident. He smiled and shook his head. It was harder to do as a pony actually. 'No, I'm fine. Thank you very much though.' He said as he lay back. 'You know, Carrot Top seems to annoy you. Or so far. Whys that?' He asked, trying to attempt a regular conversation. He was always ranting but he'd try not to be too rude or caught up for now.
