Ashen Pathfinder 16,161 June 12, 2014 Share June 12, 2014 Like I mentioned earlier, I do believe they are canon; just not strictly so. The same can be said of the Equestria Girls movie; I believe. The thing is that the comics have no bearing on the show overall, but as the writers of both the show & comics stay in contact with one another, I tend to believe (and prefer) that they are canon. Does that mean that things always gel? Not really as there are some plot issues here and there, but that pretty goes with any large license like Star Wars, Star Trek, and the like. But yeah; I personally believe they are canon. I think there are some words supporting this, but I am having trouble locating them at this point. It's more like an expanded universe, but the comics can't exist by itself, while the show technically can. Some arcs in the comics makes it definitely seem like it's fanon (Why does Katie and Andy portray Celestia like Bella Swan from that one horrible movie) but most things that appear in the comics don't seem to later reappear in the show. I think you're just taking the comics a little bit too seriously... Yeah it has its moments and shortcomings, but in the end it's the ideas of Andy Price and Katie Cook that are going about there, not necessarily the show's writers. I'd say let it be, it's out there, but you don't have to consider it canon.
