First, Clover performed a shield spell to protect her friends, Princess Celestia, and also the strange blue pony that Sterling was speaking to. She made it so that whatever happened when she activated the spell in the book, they would be safe. Mindful of the warning that DJ had given her, Clover also wove a safety spell around herself, for her own protection. Finally, she took a deep breath and, concentrating her magic, said the words of the spell.

 

Immediately, a violent wind blew up out of nowhere. Clover instinctively braced herself, spreading her newly aquired wings to keep her balance and worked on controlling it. Weather magic was difficult, nopony knew that better than herself. When still only a filly, Clover had summoned up a fog to hide herself and her friends while they completed the rescue of Ruby from the ponies of Sunny Town. It had been difficult, but, with help from Morning Glory, Clover had managed to keep the spell going while they galloped to safety. That fog had been pink and glittery too, to make it not frightening to Ruby. Perhaps she could do something like that with this gale.

 

Concentrating, Clover brought a slight glitter to the powerful wind so that it wouldn't look so frightening, as the trees nearby bent and leaves were torn off to whirl into the sky. Her eyes lit up as somehow, she gained control of the gale and began to bend it to her control. Eventually, she was able to slowly reduce it down to nothing again, and it was then safe to remove the shield and safety spells.

As the violent wind picked up, DJ was glad Clover had put up the safety spells. He quickly stood in front of Vinyl, wanting to protect his marefriend from any possible dangers. He watched worriedly as Clover fought to control the raging winds...

 

Suddenly, Clover gained control, and the winds subsided to nothing. After she removed the safety spells, DJ sighed with relief. "I'm glad that's over!" He said, pleased it was over. He frowned. "But... What did that do...?" Looking about, DJ couldn't see anything different, and he didn't feel anything different.

 

"I.... I hear something..." Vinyl said. "It's very faint, but there's definitely a sound... It... It seems like..." She looked up at the sky. "As if it's coming from above us...?"

Sterling arrived at the garden walking with Blue Note, discussing where she came from. He gave out a weird look as soon as Blue Note mentioned that she was from the University of Manehattan. He truly didn't enjoy his experience at Manehattan's prestigious university, but at the same time... Blue Note seemed like an OK mare... so he gave her the benefit of the doubt... for now. Sterling replied cautiously,

 

"Oh... I'm from the University of Manehattan too... I attended their medical school." He didn't like to talk about his time at U of Manehattan to anypony. Well, except Evening. Most of the ponies were very mean to him, and they only recently began to appreciate him as a pony. And that was only after he saved Equestria from the wrath of Raven.

 

In an instant though, Sterling was shielded by Clover's shielding, and everything around him began to look like a whirl! Was Clover trying to perform a powerful spell? Sterling didn't have much time to think about all that was happening until the spell subsided. Once the shield was removed, Sterling looked around, wondering what exactly happened... That was until he heard a sound that looked like it was coming down from above like a dove landing on the Earth. What exactly was it... Sterling could only guess...

With those ominous words, Steel drew his weapons and hovered, angled to guard against foes from above. Given everything that happened up to this point, Clover's "sparkle cloud" spell was appreciated. Maybe it was a by product of the spell, but he was suddenly feeling like he had during the show fight; pumped up and ready for action!

As DJ listened, he realised there was a faint noise coming from above them. It sounded odd, like the high-pitched sound of a gale blowing, even though there was no longer any wind.

 

DJ then noticed something high up in the sky... It was very high up, still nothing more than a speck, but he realised that speck was rapidly getting bigger. "Everypony! Something's coming!" he cried, assuming a fighting stance. "Brace yourselves!" What could this spell have been? Had it summoned some terrifying creature from Celestia knows where? Whatever it was, it was hurtling towards them,..

 

As the object sped towards the ground at speeds even Rainbow Dash would struggle to reach, another sound joined the high pitched whistle. It sounded... Like a voice...?

 

"...........ahhhhhhhhHHHHHHHHHH!"the voice screamed, as whatever it was shot towards the ground. With blinding speed it crashed into the ground, rolling over and over in the grass until it came to a standstill.

 

When it stopped rolling, DJ realised two things. Firstly, he noticed that not a single blade of grass had been damaged by the fall. It was like magic... It MUST have been magic!

 

Secondly, he noticed that the object wasn't just an object, it was a pony. Strangest of all, it wasn't a pegasus, but a unicorn...

Red stepped back as this meteor-like entity blasted straight towards the group. Watching it grow larger and larger, roaring almost deafeningly, he braced himself, expecting to hear a large explosion upon impact. Rather, the only sound he heard was hooves upon grass. Confused, he looked up from his bracing position, only to see a large unicorn standing among them.

"Who... who are you?" he responded to the creature.

Sterling looked around with amazement once the large unicorn completed his descent from the heavens. Sterling looked upwards while still trying to talk with Blue Note, but struggled because of the brightness of the bluish unicorn. It was so bright that he didn't even notice that the unicorn splatted down to the ground unceremoniously... Sterling then looked back at the ground to see a pony all ruffled up after being sent down from the skies... Who was this mysterious figure... How was it called so instantly by the spell... Where did it come from... Sterling had so many questions to ask to the unicorn, but it was a struggle for him to get any of his questions out, in fear of what the unicorn would say... 

 

One thing was certain to Sterling though: the unicorn certainly looked strong and smart enough to find the Star that would defeat the evil that lurked the world.

Blue Note thought about chatting more with Sterling about U of M, and seeing if they had any mutual friends, but she was too mesmerized by Clover's spell. The glittering wind was breathtaking. She was not expecting what came next though. A unicorn had fallen out of the sky! She took a step back, feeling her nerves come back. What was happening?

Steel just stared at the prone form of the most recent arrival, still hovering in the air. Only now, where once he was ready for a fight, a look of confusion, marked by a raised eyebrow, rested upon his countenance.

 

"Well . . . that wasn't what I was expecting." He said.

DJ wasn't quite sure how to react. He just stared at the unicorn, who was still lying on the ground. Suddenly, he noticed the unicorn stirring. "Phew! At least he's not dead!" DJ thought. "But who the hay is he?"

 

"Ohhhhh.... Now THAT hurt a bit!" the unicorn groaned, as he slowly sat up. He rubbed an eye with his hoof, before looking around... and freezing. "Wait... wh... where am I...?" he asked himself, before a smile came to his face. He started looking all around him with genuine delight at the Royal Gardens. "Wow! This place is very nice actually! Very fancy indeed! Fit for a..." He stopped himself as he noticed the group of ponies. "Oh! Hello!"

 

DJ approached him slowly, looking very confused. "Umm... who are you...?" he asked hesitantly. Was this really the hero they were expecting from the prophecy?

 

"Oh! Right! I'm... I'm..." the unicorn rubbed his head, looking hesitant. "Wow... that fall really did something for my memory... Oh! Got it!" He grinned. "My name's Chronos Tempus! Nice to meet you!"

At least this new pony was friendly...? DJ nodded. "Nice to meet you too! I'm DJ! This is Vinyl, Sterling, Evening, Steel, Red, North, Midnatt, Blue Note and Princess Clover!" DJ waved a hoof towards each pony as introduced his friends one by one to the new pony.

 

"Ah! Hello everyone!" Chronos replied.

 

"But... back to the matter in hand, why are you here? Why did that spell summon you?" DJ asked.

 

Chronos frowned, looking a little confused. "I... Well, in truth... I don't know why that spell summoned me... nor do I know why I'm here! I'm just as confused as you!"

North and Midnatt stood there, and being used with harsh weather they both braced themselves as they noticed the winds. That ddi not seem to be necessary though, as Clover's shield covered most, if not all of it.

 

As soon as it stopped, North's ears poked up.

"What be that noise?" he said, looking around a little before looking up.

 

"What noise?" Midnatt replied, before her ears too poked up. "Ah, I hear it too now.".

 

They both jumped as the object in the sky hit the ground, despite it not being that big of an impact. North fell backwards, and struggled to get up for a bit before his sister helped him up. They both watched and listened as the new unicorn who had come from the sky spoke.

Sterling's face turned from admiration into confusion. Who exactly was this unicorn summoned to save the Equestrian realm from doom and gloom? He certainly looked very clumsy to start things off and given his looks... was this unicorn really their answer? What special talent did he have that the others didn't have?

 

"Well... who exactly are you Chronos... I mean, where are you from?" Was all that Sterling could say, wondering if his origins could help them in any way possible...

When Chronos heard the question, he almost jumped, looking a little surprised. "Where am I from? I... I..." He sctrached his head again, giving a nervous laugh. "That fall must really have done something, because I can't quite remember!"

Princess Celestia had been thinking for a moment, before she stepped out from behind the group. "It is nice to meet you, Chronos. I am not sure why you have been brought here, but there must be some reason the spell summoned you here." She turned to the others. "I feel it is time that you began your search for the Darkstar. I have been thinking about it for a while, and I do recall a single lead that we may have to aid your search. It is not much to go on, but I still hold out the hope that it may help you on your way."

 

"There is an island not far south of Manehattan, relatively untouched by Equestria. A small village of ponies live there. I feel that one in particular may be of help to us. He is an old zebra called Callaloo. I remember his grandfather came to Canterlot once in search of a special copy of Starswirl's book, desperate to gain more knowledge of the events. I get the feeling that his family may know something about the Darkstar that many do not."

 

This may not be a good lead to go on, but it is the best chance we have of locating the weapon. I have dispatched some of the guard to Manehattan to ready a special surprise for you." She smiled as she said this, making DJ wonder exactly what she was planning. "I know that if success is in any way possible, you will find a way to locate this weapon and save Equestria. You are our last hope..."

 

As she turned to leave, she stopped, and turned back to them. "Do not forget Chronos on your journey. He may be of help to you on it!" Chronos grinned at being recommended by the Princess, but DJ wasn't all that sure. Would this unicorn really be of help to them?

 

"I guess we'd better head on to Manehattan then!" DJ said. "There'll be a train from Canterlot station soon I'll bet!"

Sterling still wanted to talk with this new friend he met, for he wanted to see what she was all about... after all, what if she was some sort of enemy in disguise... It didn't seem likely, but Sterling didn't like any student from the University of Manehattan... his past was simply too tragic to even contemplate that... His attention however was first placed towards Princess Celestia. She spoke of a small island near Manehattan that few ponies inhabited and was the place where they would perhaps get their first clue on defeating this dark evil that lurked the world... Sterling was all up for it, especially since he had a chance to go home first. Sterling gave a nod after Princess Celestia spoke her words, and quickly turned in the direction of Canterlot station.

 

Then... it was time to get back to talking with Blue Note... @lincolnshirepony

"So... where did we leave off in our conversation?" Sterling asked, having forgotten where they left off...

Well with their new friend in tow, officially charged with a quest, and their first objective laid out; Steel was ready to go on another adventure.

 

"Friends! The hour is bleak, but at least we face this possible doom head on and together. To Manehatten!"

Blue Note couldn't place exactly how she ended up in this group of heroes. Her motivations were unclear to herself, and their easy acceptance of her was very different from her past experiences. She'd always had trouble making friends. Still, she knew that she would have to be careful around this group, and that friendly conversation did not equal trust or respect.

 

Perhaps it was the prospect of leaving Canterlot that pushed her to go. The thought of returning to Manehatten, if only temporarily, made her feel happier than she had been in months. She would never enjoy living in Canterlot, not after her less than pleasant upbringing there. Her job wasn't anything she was passionate about. Her talent was in composing, not teaching. Nothing was holding her here.

 

@Sterling Crimson "I believe we were talking about the University of Manehatten," Blue Note said. "I didn't know too many ponies from the medical school, so I suppose it makes sense that our paths never crossed. I more or less lived in the music school the whole time I attended."

As the group began trotting towards the station, two new friends in tow, DJ wondered just what the surprise was that Celestia had planned for them. What exactly was going to be there for them at Manehattan? Either way, they'd find out soon enough, as the train drew up at Canterlot station. DJ and Vinyl both trotted inside, hoping the others would follow. It wouldn't be long until they were setting off on the high seas, just like old times...

After being officially charged with the quest, Clover was excited. This strange unicorn; she wondered who he was and where he came from, and how the spell had summoned him. In any case, the spell was one which might come in handy and she tucked it away in her mind. Clover also got changed out of her coronation gear and gave it to Princess Celestia for safe keeping. Somehow, she thought that a silk dress and slippers might not be appropriate wear for where they were going.

 

Once on the train, Clover turned to DJ.

 

"We might want to stock up on supplies in Manehatten," she said. "As it stands, we have nothing; no food, no medical items."

"That sounds like a good idea, Clover!" DJ replied. "I certainly know I haven't much!" He chuckled, looking through his bag at the small amount of items he'd brought. He had his picture of Vinyl (he carried it with him even when they were together), a few smallbits and bobs, and his precious gem. He had hurried to bring it with him when they left, as he never really liked going anywhere without it. It felt part of his friendship with the others, like a special omento of all the memories they'd made. DJ still wondered sometimes if the others did the same thing, or if he was just a little obsessive.

 

Smiling to himself, as the train pulled out of the station, he glanced out of the window. Seeing the great Canterlot castle in the distance, his smile faded, as he remembered the poor ponies who'd been turned to stone by that strange creature the Princess talked of. Could they save them? DJ certainly hoped so..

"Seems like we will be travelling again..." North said to himself, flapping his wings a couple of times as if to warm up.

"And this time, I will come along too. You are not leaving without me." Midnatt said to him, poking his side with a hoof.

 

"If ye wish, but do not say I did not warn ye." North said, before both nodded, and went ahead onto the train.

It looked like Sterling and Evening would get a chance to restock on supplies once they reached Manehattan. Sterling was happy to hear this, since he himself didn't have any of his medical supplies. After all, he was supposed to have a relaxing time in Canterlot right? Sterling placed his focus back to Blue Note @lincolnshirepony however, when she helped him come back to the conversation they had beforehand.

 

"So you're from the music school huh? I play the piano and violin, even with all the time I had to spend at the medical school." Sterling replied to Blue Note while walking with Evening. At least that was one good thing about this Blue Note. He was happy to hear of a pony who loved music. That was before Sterling asked,

 

"So what type of music do you like? I love to play classical music, particularly on the piano!"

(OOC: Almost there guys! Our first quest is about to begin!)

After a long and uneventful journey, the group finally made it to Manehattan. As the train stopped, DJ noticed two guards waiting on the platform. "Hey, Vi... do you see the guards? Maybe Princess Celestia sent them?"
 

"Maybe it's for the surprise she was talking about...?" Vinyl replied, equally puzzled.

 

As they left the train, one of the guards noticed them and spoke up. "The Princess has asked that you are all to come to the harbour upon your arrival." he announced. "She has something prepared for you there."

 

"What could it be...?" DJ wondered. Whatever it was, he thought it best to follow them, even though he was hoping to spend a little time in the metropolis before the set off. Maybe they'd have time to get supplies later?

As the train stopped, both North and Midnight practically fell out the doors of the train.

"Still not quite used with those big... Moving... Things... Tog was it?" Midnatt said, sounding a little sick.

"At least we did not have to fly or run all the way..." North said, sounding not quite as sick.

 

As they both wobbly got back up onto their hooves - using each other as support - they managed to catch what the guards said.

 

"Harbour? Must be a ship or something..." North managed to say, before his sister knocked him in the head with a hoof.

"If it is, at least do not spoil the surprise..." she told him, before she lost her balance and they both leaned onto each other again.

Clover wondered what the surprise was, waiting for them in the harbour. "Could it possibly be a ship?" she said aloud. The old ship had been destroyed, after all, so she had assumed that they would have to travel across Equestria on hoof. A ship would be very welcome; they could stock it up with supplies and therefore would not have to make many stops as they travelled.

@Sterling Crimson "That's wonderful," Blue Note said. "I'm a classical musician as well. I can play the piano, though I mostly use that skill for composing. I'm actually a clarinetist, and I went to school to study composition." Blue Note was always happy to talk about music. "U of M had such a wonderful music program, though I'm sure you already know all about it."

 

The mystery of what was at the harbor was on Blue Note's mind. She agreed with the speculation that it might be a ship. That seemed like the best way to travel.
