Sterling realized that he needed a chariot to get up to the balcony. It was impossible to get there without flying there, so when the chariots came to his aid, he quickly jumped on one and rode swiftly up to Luna's balcony... the tallest of them all... why did it have to be so tall, Sterling wondered... Otherwise, Sterling knew that the final stone piece was up there, so they had to get there post haste! There was no time to lose!

Red listened to Clover, and nodded as she mentioned that she has not flown yet.

"Alright," Red responded, "You've never flown before, you say? Looks like we're gonna have to have a bit of a crash course now, and practice later." He spread his wings to prepare for a demonstration.

"Ace Seminar 101: always make sure your wing movements are as smooth as possible. Try like me, and with gentle movement, try to hover just a few feet off the ground." With his wings, he gently created that vital cushion of air. Gently flapping, he motioned for Clover to give it a try.

"Well, seems like the others will be going up there soon, and we are the only pegasuses that can not really fly here..."

"That would be pegasi... And we do not really have size and age on our side. Also, Clover has wings too and seems to struggle... And she's a onecorner."

"Aye, I get that... You ready, anyseen?"

"Anywha-" North managed to say, before his sister hovered up and grabbed him under his shoulders, forcing him up with her. The surprise and stress made him start flapping his wings too.

"This seems... Not very effective... And not logical at all...!" North said, seeming a little stressed.

"I do not care... It works... Focus or we will fall..." Midnatt replied, not really seeming any less stressed.

"But... Red just said to do it smooth and gentle-"

"VI ER FOR JÆVLA SMÅ TIL Å KUNNE FOKUSERE PÅ DET NÅ." Midnatt almost shouted, pressing on.

("We are too damn small to focus on that now.")

After a little while, they had reached the balcony, both collapsing as they land.

"Next time... We go with that vogn the others seem to be taking..."

@, Doubtfully, Clover tried to do as Red said. It seemed to her to be ridiculous that her wings could support her entire body the way he was demonstrating; while Red was a pegasus, she'd been a unicorn before her ascension, with her hooves firmly on the ground. However, to Clover's amazement, she saw that Red was right. Flapping her wings the way he had shown her, she was soon hovering over the ground next to him.

Seeing his friends were nearly ready, DJ took off with a powerful stroke of his wings, beginning to ascend the tower. As he took off, and since the other non-pegasi were on board, the chariot drivers followed suit, bringing the large chariot off the ground and towards the tower. When DJ arrived at the top of the tower, he landed gently on the balcony, waiting for the others to arrive. As soon as they did, they could begin their search...

Sterling had just arrived at the balcony with hopes of finding the last stone for the Dark Star... but the hard part was actually finding the stone because the room looked so dark and large... Probably because The Princess of the Night desired it so. But Sterling guessed that the piece had to be hidden somewhere rather than just lying around, given how important the stone was... so he decided to look for any place where the stone could be stored and locked away for a time before it was needed...

"Wow," Red responded, clearly not expecting the alicorn to get off the ground, "you're a quick learner! Ace Seminar 102 is slightly more difficult, but I'm sure you got it. To fly forward in ascent, angle your wings like this."

He slowly rotated his wings to a slight 30* angle, and flew forward slowly.

"Just as I am doing," he said, ascending to the balcony.

"Eeek!" Clover cried out, dropping back to the ground. "It's just so high up! What if I was to fall?" She didn't want to just give up and take the carriage; this was something that Clover knew she had to accomplish.

"Stay with me," Red responded, "You won't fall if you keep your movemets steady. Nobody from Ace Seminar has ever fallen to death under my wing. Stick with me and I'll make sure nothing happens to you."

@, "I'll try," Clover said, still nervous. She once again took off from the ground and did her best to follow Red's instructions. She trembled all over as she felt herself gain height, but this time didn't look down and instead kept close to Red, so close that he could probably feel her shivering with fear. Yet as well as that fear came a sense of exhilaration and Clover knew that once she was able to fly without thinking, she would enjoy it.

Blue Note stepped off the chariot, and took in the room. The darkness came with extra uncertainty, considering the circumstances. "We need some light in here." She concentrated on the light spell, and tiny beacon of light was produced from her horn. "Okay, where should I shine this thing?" she asked. They had a very limited amount of time to work with.

Sterling noticed that he wasn't getting anywhere searching for the stone in the dark. When Blue Note shone a light from her horn, Sterling realized what he had forgotten... that he too could shine his own light with his horn! He had to review that for medical school since some surgeries were needed to be performed without electricity and at night! Sterling stood back towards Blue Note where she created her own light source. Following her lead, Sterling remembered how to create a light with his own horn by letting it form a white glow much like Blue Note's!

 

"When I saw you creating light with your horn, I remembered how to create light with mine own! Thanks!" Sterling thanked Blue Note for helping him remember how to form a light, even if it wasn't Blue Note's primary intention... Now he could look for the stone more efficiently!

"You're welcome," Blue Note said briskly. She looked upwards. Two lights should be better than one. "Any idea where this thing might be? I'd think that it would give us a clue or something. Unless it doesn't want us to find it..." She felt weird talking about a magical item like it was a pony, but the one she found had clearly been aware of her. This last piece should be aware of them too, if the magic was really the same.

"Or maybe it does?" DJ said, coming alongside the two ponies. "It's hard to predict just what is planned with these things, after all, they were made by Starswirl, so they might have an enchantment on them! Maybe when Clover comes up we can see if her finding spell can shed some light on the subject." He grinned at the realisation. "No pun intended."

Eventually, Clover reached the top of the tower and gave a little gasp of relief when all four of her hooves were on the ground. She took a minute or two to compose herself, then thought of the finding spell that she meant to cast. Clover's horn glowed green, and she cast the spell.

 

"There," she said. "Anything we're looking for up here will glow, that is, if it's even up here. Everypony look."

Once Clover had cast the spell, DJ confined to look around the tower. There really didn't seem to be anything here. Nothing but darkness and shadows dancing in the room. Something didn't feel quite right to him. Something definitely wasn't right at all here...

Steel drew his blades, sensing the same atmosphere.

 

"Everypony, stay close. I have a feeling a certain four letter word is about to rear it's most unwelcome head." Steel said, engaging in the practice of purple prose for the sake of it.

 

(Because pointing out what you're doing is stupid lessens the blow!  )

Blue Note's horn continued to glow. She dimmed the spell, but could not bring herself to stop it entirely. The darkness suffocated her. The benevolent magic she felt in the jungle was not present here, or perhaps something else was overpowering it. Either way, she wanted to leave the light on.

No matter how bright Sterling could light his horn, the room seemed darker and darker... the stone, if it was anywhere in the room, was nowhere in sight... Seeing that Blue Note was struggling to keep the light on made him worried as well as the glow from his horn also dimmed...

"Blue Note... you seen the stone by any chance? It feels darker and darker even as we keep our horns alight!" Sterling asked Blue Note with an anxious heart. They needed to find the stone soon... or did the shadow pony already come...?

"I dimmed the spell to more easily find the glowing object. I didn't want it to be too bright," she said. "But I don't want to leave us in total darkness either. Something is... off here." Dark magic, evil forces, a trap of some sort? Her mind could find many terrifying possibilities.

"Seriously, why would it be STILL up here?" Red grumbled as the group slowly trotted through the balcony, "I mean, Luna would have found it by now if it really was last known to be up here a hundred or whatever years!" This was the first time in awhile Red found himself complaining this much, taking a pause to catch his breath after spewing grouse after grouse.

"*Annoyed SIGH* I guess it's no matter," replied Red after trotting back to the group, "At this rate I'd do anything to see Applejack again. But... I might never have the chance to make up for shoving her away like that. So... why even bother?"

Getting back up on their hooves after a quick bit of recovering, they looked around for a bit.

"Be it me, or is it dark here?"

"Well, duh. It be night, and there are no lights in here other than those horns."

"Aye, that I know, but it almost be even dark for me to see... I might just be tired though..." North said, squinting, trying to get a better view.

"Too dark for ye? That be a first..." Midnatt replied, seeming surprised.

DJ trotted slowly deeper into the room, taking heed of Steel's warning. Something was certainly unusual, and he couldn't shake off the feeling that they were being watched... Vinyl came up to him, looking anxious in the gloom. "DJ... I don't like this..." she whispered. "I feel... like something's there..."

 

DJ nodded. "Me too... I think we'd all better stay close..."

 

Suddenly, they both heard a sound from where they had come. "Hee hee hee... Poor little ponies, they are so near! To finding what is hidden here..."

Sterling continued to look around for any signs of the stone... but he suddenly stopped and turned around when he heard a dark, bellowing voice behind them... Sterling poked at Blue Note's body, hoping to grab her attention as well and to turn around to reveal the pony with the mysterious voice with her glow... 

 

When Sterling turned around with his horn aglow, his worst fears were imagined... it was the dark pony himself...

Blue Note started to turn towards Sterling, ready to snap at him not to touch her, but the voice stopped her movements. He hadn't been trying to get her attention for kicks. Her illumination spell faded out completely, leaving her in darkness. She had an idea what was out there... and suddenly, seeing it wasn't high on her priorities. In fact, it seemed that other spells might behoove her now.
