Sterling looked around the shop, and became more and more unsure of what he wanted... at first, he wanted a nice jewel just for Evening, but there were also flowers and other necklaces of moons and suns! Sterling loved all of the trinkets, but he wasn't sure which one would be perfect for Evening...

 

"I'm honestly not sure... I want to get something for my wife in Manehattan... she loves flowers, but I'm not sure what would be better... a flower trinket or a bouquet of flowers... I think I'll go with the former, but I'm not sure what type of trinket I should get her..." Sterling replied in a pondering tone... he really could not make up his mind, it was annoying Sterling... he wanted to make a decision soon....

"If you be looking the same as your friend was getting , I'm afraid they were our only two... " Callaloo replied sadly. "However , I do have dese very nice flower necklaces! They be made of real flowers, dat last for a very long time! Do you be having a particular preference of flower for her?"

North and Midnatt followed the others, and entered the zebra's cottage right behind them.

 

"We can have anything for free?" North said, as he heard Callaloo speak.

"Let us have a look around, eh?" Midnatt said, before they begum looking around the place for things.

After a little while, they just stood there, looking confused. "Not even sure what everything is..." "Aye..."

North and Midnatt followed the others, and entered the zebra's cottage right behind them.

 

"We can have anything for free?" North said, as he heard Callaloo speak.

"Let us have a look around, eh?" Midnatt said, before they begum looking around the place for things.

After a little while, they just stood there, looking confused. "Not even sure what everything is..." "Aye..."

 

"Life is a negotiation my friend. We all want. We all give, to get what we want." Steel said to North as he perused the shop. "Wise shaman, anything here that might be of interest to a hobbyist scholar and a slightly more than hobbyist swordpony?" Steel asked of the zebra.

Sterling noted the fact that DJ had already taken some flowers away. Perhaps a necklace would look the nicest to his dear Evening. After all, they already had many flowers to plant thanks to Evening's efforts to build their lovely garden together. Sterling nodded happily when Callaloo suggested that Sterling take a flower necklace instead. Taking a look at the necklace, he noticed that it was much prettier than he had made it out to be. It would sparkle if Sterling placed the necklace at just the right angle underneath the sun, and upon closer inspection the thin laces of the necklace were made of gold... this would be the perfect gift for his Evening once he came home! He was still worried about his wife being under duress at the hospital, but at the same time, he felt some hope... that Evening would be well...

Some even felt as though the sword itself radiated it's own special power. "Take your pick!" Callaloo said with a grin. "I hope there be one to your tastes!"

"Hmm..." Callaloo thought for a moment. This was an interesting request. "I be having much a young scholar may be interested in," he replied. "but as for a swordspony, I be not having much... Come with me though." He led Steel over to a particular part of the ship, where several grand swords hung on the walls or were placed on the shelves. Some were faded with age, others shining new. Some even felt as though the sword itself radiated it's own special power. "Take your pick!" Callaloo said with a grin. "I hope there be one to your tastes!"

Once NightStrike entered the shop he gave a short nod to Callaloo. It seemed that they could take something from the shop, and that at absolutely no cost at all.

 

But NightStrike knew he wasn't originally a part of the group. He felt rather unsure whether to take something with him or not. He actually felt rather unsure about being with this group at all. He didn't even knew what all the Darkstar fuss was about.

 

He decided to make his way over to DJ and give him a pat on the back looking him in the eyes gesturing towards the door making clear he wanted to have a short talk with him.

Clover eventually found a pair of saddlebags which, at first sight, seemed ordinary. She opened them, and felt inside with a hoof, and gasped. The bags seemed to be normal from the outside, but inside, they had been magically stretched so they would carry anything put inside! Yet they still appeared to be light to carry. Clover picked the bags up and walked over to Callaloo.

 

"I'll have these bags, please," she said.

As Callaloo busied himself with helping the other, DJ noticed Nightstrike indicate e was looking a word with him. Nodding, he went over to the door with the assassin pony. "What's up, Nightstrike?" DJ asked him quietly. He wondered if Nightstrike was feeling a little nervous ring with the group, or if it was something to do with Callaloo...

Sterling managed to take the necklace trinket that Callaloo offered him. It was kind of him to have offered free trinkets for them all to have as a token of appreciation from the kind zebra. Sterling then turned his head towards Blue Note @lincolnshirepony to see whether she was alright after all that happened with General Klackon...

 

"Hey Blue Note... I... I hope you're feeling alright... I... I had it tough seeing death myself at first during my first adventure, but when you look back, you realize that it had to be done..." Sterling knew that it didn't help much, but at least he tried...

I could go back to command to take on another mission of course, but well, all the Darkstar talking made me interested. What's Darkstar anyway?"

Blue Note had been wandering the shop aimlessly. She didn't know what she wanted, all she could think about were lost ponies and lost innocence. Sterling Crimson's words interrupted her thoughts. "It had to be done..." The thought echoed in her mind. 

 

"Celestia has yet to kill Chrysalis," she said abruptly. Blue Note wondered if she should have been a bit more grateful to Sterling. He was trying to reassure her, and he had a point. Klackon got exactly what he had coming to him; Blue Note was not going to argue against that. There was something more pressing on her mind at the moment, anyway...

 

She walked over to Callaloo. "Do you know what happened to the ponies the changelings replaced?" The question was burning at her mind; what had been done to the poor citizens of this island? And how was it fair that the changelings reaped the rewards of that?

Sterling was taken aback slightly by Blue Note's abrupt and harsh response. He was just trying to be kind and assuring, but all it did was backfire on him... at least Evening would be nicer than that, he thought. Nevertheless, Blue Note had a point... Princess Celestia had yet to kill Queen Chrysalis, and technically, the act of love and magic from Cadance and Shining Armour should have killed her at the post because true love defeated a multitude of evil... Sterling wasn't sure what to say in response to what Blue Note had to say, but he decided to continue the conversation with Blue Note anyway... 

 

"Well reports suggested that Queen Chrysalis was too powerful to kill when she was first defeated... Eyewitnesses said that Princess Celestia's power was nullified by Chrysalis', and apparently, the love of Shining Armor and Cadance wasn't enough to kill her..." Sterling replied in as a calm manner as he could give... Blue Note seemed an interesting mare to know about, especially given that she was nicer than the other ponies from Manehattan U... but he still had his qualms, and he didn't like Blue Note's suspicion of him when he tried to calm her...

"I see..." DJ replied, looking back at Callaloo showering the others with gifts. "As for the Darkstar, we don't really know much about it at all! All we know is that there's this strange pony running around turning ponies to stone, and that he's looking to release the full power of the Nightmare Spirits that took over Luna over a thousand years ago.

 

"The Darkstar sounds like it's the only way to stop this pony, and Callaloo may be the only one who can help us know more about it. Care to stick around? You may here some more information if you're interested! Who knows? You might even wanna tag along!" DJ added with a grin.

"I am not knowing..." Callaloo replied sadly. "As I be saying before, I only guessed that de mayor was a changeling, I did not be knowing dat. They could be safe or they could be... ehh... not... I wish I knew though..."

 

He nodded understandingly. "It be not fair, but den, we do not know who be changelings and who be pony, do we? Maybe it is best we do not? Let dem live with us as our own. I do not like it, but unfortunately sometimes, ignorance be bliss..."

NightStrike nodded understandingly "Mmhm I see, though even if I decide to stick along.... well let's just say it was kinda obvious most of your group was and still is suspicious to me. I'm certain they would not like me to join along I fear.." He looked back into the hut "Still though, no harm in sticking around hearing a bit about that Darkstar!"

"I wouldn't say that!" DJ replied. "Sure, they were suspicious at the start, but they had reason to! You proved your honesty and trustworthiness, and I'm sure they will all welcome you in time, even if not right away!" Looking back, he realised Callaloo sounded like he was about to start explaining. "We'd better head back in, I think your chance to hear about the Darkstar is just about to arrive!"

@@Wayzer, @, While Clover had not trusted NightStrike at first, once he had proven himself trustworthy and with an honourable mission, she had grown to trust him and even like him. While she waited for Callaloo to explain about the Darkstar, Clover hoped that NightStrike would join their team. Their mission was dangerous, and another trained fighter would be a welcome addition.

Callaloo finally decided it was time to address his guests. "Now!" he said loudly, making DJ jump a little. "It is time I be telling you what I know! My grandfather was interested in dis weapon, and spent his life tracking down everything he could learn about it, so almost all my knowledge comes from him! I do not be knowing exactly what de Princess has already told you, but de Darkstar is a very powerful weapon, and was used to defeat de Nightmare Spirits many thousands of years ago." He grinned at the group. "But de Darkstar is no ordinary weapon! It is not a sword or a warship, but 8 tiny tiny objects!"

 

He sighed. "They will be being difficult for you to find I fear... Starswirl de Bearded made sure dat he hid them after he used dem to defeat de Nightmare Spirits, and I fear I only know the locations of one! One was located on dis very island! It was said to shine a brilliant blue, like dat of a sapphire!"

 

"Each of these objects is very powerful, but dey cannot use their true power without two things: the lead piece and a pony who can tap into their immense power! One of these parts is required to link all the others together, binding them as one. It is said to be slightly different to de others, but how, I do not know. The pony to tap into dis weapon would have to be a unicorn, of course, but few can do dis... Not even the Princesses can use dem! Only certain ponies that have been chosen to do dis..." He shrugged. "I do not see how dis will help you though. I do not know what they are, or how you could find dem, even the one on dis island..."

Sterling realized that he didn't have enough time to address Blue Note's concerns at the moment since Calaloo called all his guests for a group chat about the Dark Star. Callaloo's explanation began with the existence of 8 tiny objects that Starswirl the Bearded used to defeat the darkness that loomed over Equestria. What in Equestria was Callaloo talking about... 8 tiny objects... what types of objects could they be... and apparently not even the Princesses could use them... so who could? Who were the certain ponies who could use the stones and defeat the growing evil?

 

Within all these questions, Sterling pondered deeply... it seemed that Celestia had led them to more questions than answers with Callaloo... but it did provide them with some awareness of the situation and what was needed for certain victory.

Both North and Midnatt sat and listened with the others as Callaloo spoke. Later on, they both seemed to think really hard.

 

"Ai... This seems familiar in some way... But I can not remember what or where..."

"Well, ye are the one with the good memory of us... Do not ask me..."

Blue Note was glad that Callaloo assembled the ponies together. It would give her something to concentrate on, besides the horror at the thought that the only reason the princesses abstained from killing their enemies was because they didn't have enough power to carry out the task. She focused intently on his words, and realized that the sapphire he was talking about sounded very familiar...

 

She levitated the stone the harp showed her out of her bag. "Is this it?" she asked. "When we were separated from the group, a I heard a harp playing, and I felt like it was calling to me. It even played part of a piece a wrote. It was some sort of benevolent magic, I believe."

Sterling looked at the blue gem intently, having just remembered that Blue Note recently picked up a small blue item that was letting out a harp sound when he and Blue Note were looking for their friends! Sterling then remembered that he had a crimson gem that was similarly shaped as Blue Note's... 

 

Sterling stretched his hoof into his saddlebag and checked to see if his crimson stone could be found anywhere in his saddlebag... it took him a few seconds or so, but he managed to grab hold of his crimson stone and show it to all his friends and Callaloo!

 

"I had something like the small object that Callaloo was talking about, but I wasn't sure whether this was the right object or not! Seeing that it looks like Blue Note's small object, I really think this is it!" Sterling exclaimed with determination. Perhaps all the other ponies had something like this gem as well!

"Well at least the search is narrowed down. I'd rather be searching this island than the entire world. We just need to think like Starswirl, where would he have hidden the piece here on this island?" Steel thought aloud with a hoof to his chin in thought.

NightStrike chuckled "Well I don't know how a unicorn that lived thousands of years ago thought, but if he is as much as an egghead as our beloved princess Twilight I guess we should start searching in the nearest library. If this island even got one that is."

 

He looked at the rest and pawed at the ground with his hoof thinking of what DJ said. "Well you know, if it's all right with you all I eeehm would stick along with the group for a little longer. Like me you seem to be willing to help protect Equestria. If you trust me of course..."
