How I Became a Fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

A friend of mine was watching with her kids and told me it was actually a good show. That it taught good values and lessons. So when my oldest daughter was born I used it as an "excuse" (that fooled no one) to watch the show.

I'm Mama Lion. I'm a stay at home Mama to two beautiful little girls. I love to read and I'm an (as of now) unpublished author. I write speculative fiction and love fairy tale retellings. My name has special meaning to me, which I will gladly tell you, but I must warn you, it is a sad story.

Well hello there @Mama Lion! Welcome to the MLP Forums!!

I'm sure you'll be a absolutely wonderful addition to this great community!

Haha, well what an excuse! I don't really seem to fool anyone either with my excuses!  :o

There are quite a few bronies here that like to write and read fan-fictions, maybe you'll enjoy them too!

Applejack and Twilight huh? Don't forget to check out the Applejack Fan Club and the Twilight Sparkle Fan Club on your way!

I hope you enjoy your stay here, everyone is quite friendly so if you have any questions or just want to chat, don't be afraid to send someone a PM, I'm sure we'll be happy to reply!  ;)

Don't forget to have fun! Cheerio!

Hi :) that's really cool about how you write speculative fiction and love fairy tale retellings. I love that sort of stuff myself.

I'm sure you'll have a great time here :D

I would be interested in learning what your name means to you, if you would not mind sharing.

Not at all.  :)

To start out with, I just loved lions.  Something about the animal always just spoke to me.

However, in 2008, my husband and I found out we were expecting a baby, but things didn't go as planned.  Around 6 months along, we found out our unborn son had a major birth defect (a diaphragmatic hernia...a hole in his diaphragm that allowed his stomach, small intestines, large intestines, spleen, and one lobe of his liver to move up into his chest, causing his lungs to not form correctly or completely).  About a month later, we found out he had a second major birth defect. (a large ventricular spetal defect...a hole in his heart, which caused his oxygenated and non-oxygenated blood to mix and caused him to have breathing troubles).  Fast forward several months and we found out he had an extremely rare chromosomal issue and once he was born, we found two more major birth defects and a minor birth defect.  The third major defect we found was that he was born without an anus.  The fourth major defect we didn't find out about until he was 2 1/2 months old...that is when we found out his brain wasn't growing.

He was in the hospital his entire life...10 months.  He also had 11 major and minor surgeries in that 10 month time period, including open heart surgery, abdominal surgery twice, two permanent IV lines placed, and cranial surgery.

As a result, I BECAME a Mama Lion.  I will do what I can to protect my children, but I will also try my hardest to make sure that if I can't protect them, that I'm there for them.  Since he passed away, I have had two daughters, and two more early losses (my oldest daughter's identical twin sister we lost at 7 weeks 3days and before my youngest daughter, I had an early miscarriage at 5 weeks).  That is why, I see my OC's cutie mark as five little lion cub paws within a big mama lion's paw.

Like I said, a sad story, but I'm all the more blessed for it.   :squee:

I am so very sorry that all of that happened to them and to you. I can't imagine at all what it'd be like to go through something like that.

I'm very glad to hear that you have such a positive attitude about it overall, though. I'm sure that you were an absolutely wonderful mother to them and are an absolutely wonderful mother to your two daughters.

Friendship is not about whom you've known the longest..It's about those who've never left your side.
