~ Dr. Ocsid ~ 690 July 1, 2014 Share July 1, 2014 Except of plot convenience of course. The roof is fallen, therefore they should have been rained on. Also, they were there for at least a thousand years. Normal books turn to dust in this time. Also, it was free for wild animals to come in and use the books for nests, food, or whatever wild animals do with books. Therefore, they should be in very bad condition. But the aren´t. Magical books? Could be, but then why are they still there? Magical books would be quite valuable and/or dangerous, so why weren´t they stolen? Or left there in the first place. If they were too dangerous to take somewhere else, why are they kept in the open like this?
Silver Letter 1,832 July 1, 2014 Share July 1, 2014 The castle ruins and everything inside might be blessed by Celestia so that it can't be overtaken by nature. We don't know. It might also explain why no pony ever found the ruins before Twilight was urged to find the Elements of Harmony. Silver Letter!!! Ashen Pathfinder 16,162 July 1, 2014 Share July 1, 2014 I'd say some sort of magic protects the ruins and, therefore, things like the old armor and the books. I mean, we apparently have some sort of hooded apparition (unless that was Tirek) roaming the hallways of the ruins, so I wouldn't put it past them to have something protecting those books. OptimisticNeighsayer 478 July 2, 2014 Share July 2, 2014 (edited) I've often wondered about this too, and usually, I let scientific anomalies like this not bother me. This one is different though. It might also explain why no pony ever found the ruins before Twilight was urged to find the Elements of Harmony. Nopony wanted to go into the Everfree Forest in the first place, so it's no wonder anypony has found it before Twilight and Co. Anyhow, I doubt that the ruins would be protected by a certain magic by Celestia, otherwise the whole castle would be completely intact. I'm kind of thinking that the library was relatively protected from the elements until last year when the roof over the library finally caved in. (Too bad we can't go and do archaeological investigations ourselves.) Or else the books themselves are protected by magic or made of especially durable material, especially for the Princesses who can likely afford material not available to the commoners. The writers should have put the library in a basement to avoid this quagmire. Edited July 2, 2014 by OptimisticNeighsayer Hablo español--Je parle français--日本語を話す--我说中文--...and sarcasm (yeah right!) Princess Periwinkle 3,775 July 2, 2014 Share July 2, 2014 It's probably like the restricted section of the Hogwarts library. Books that Celestia didn't want to see the light of day either because they were too evil, or dangerous. She probably transferred some of the books back to Canterlot at some point. M'aiq the Liar 5,804 July 2, 2014 Share July 2, 2014 Because like any cursed ruins in a good fantasy world, you abandon everything in fear that it may be cursed or summon Diablo. And because a lot of them are most likely copies of things Celestia already has at her castle, besides the hidden books like the diary and the rarity book. http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/vera-yeoman-r5921Muh pleb tier OC .http://mlpforums.com/blog/1663/entry-12477-pony-waifu-wedding-13-maiq-x-fleetfoot/ MLP forum's #1 Fleetfoot fan also married to fleetfoot <
DND 2,355 July 2, 2014 Share July 2, 2014 Yeah, plot devices and nothing more. XD Honestly the real question is why Celestia didn't take years of history in that library to Canterlot when she made her move out. Okay, got my crown, slipper shoe thingies, and chestplate- should I take anything else? Fuck it. Everything's too nostalgic.
TheSupremeLeaderOfChaos 1,211 July 2, 2014 Share July 2, 2014 I'm sure it's under some form of magical protection or something. It was the castle of two of the most powerful magical users in the world for a while, right? The castle held a ton of sad memories for Celestia, so I'm sure she left the place largely untouched. That may explain also why it's still in ruins! Signature made by- Kyoshi Make sense? Oh, what fun is there in making sense? -Discord I'm So Excited! I'M SO EXCITED! Flutter_Guy_Dash 35 July 2, 2014 Share July 2, 2014 Other than, "IT'S A KID'S SHOW, LOGIC DOESN'T WORK IN THESE REALMS!" I would say that the weather stayed away from the books because the weather is too cool for that stuff. The animals that somehow get in the castle don't read and don't want to get paper cuts by laying eggs in them and such. The castle didn't want to fall apart on the books until the Mane 6 got there in that episode. The books were all hidden inside a creepy castle in a dark forest filled with magical animals that kill everything in sight, which scares away anypony searching for them. The castle which held the books was only perceived in legend/ in the book Twilight found, so nopony cared to even look for it. The villian's had no intention of sitting around, reading books especially the ones that seem to not be able to read. Celestia had secretly set a spell on the books, granting them resistance to the decay of time, especially the Journal of the Two Sisters (Even though the books had dust on them). So basically logic dosen't work inside a library. Which anwsers the question of why the 80 year old librarian at the local library can still do freaking backflips! (She showed me and my friends when we heard a rumor that she could )
~ Dr. Ocsid ~ 690 July 2, 2014 Author Share July 2, 2014 Probably a certain Orang-Utan slips through a L-Space portal into the library from time to time to keep the books in good condition and the wildlife away from it.
jeray2000 111 July 3, 2014 Share July 3, 2014 It's just plot convience, no good legitimate reason exists.
