Is being a "perfectionist" and a "control freak" creatively a good thing?

What I consider a perfectionist or a control freak is someone who worries about the quality of all of the little details in their work, be it art, film, music, books, or anything else, and refuses to reveal the finished product to the world if they don't feel that it's perfect. Would you consider having these traits a good thing to have?

If this perfectionist were working to create something in a team, no, since it would be hard to work as a team if the perfectionist could not tolerate anyone elses imput. Since people cant work like a hive mind, individuals would be bound to deviate at least slightly from the perfectionists plan, even if they were working under him/her.

If they were working alone, its not too bad. Even though it could take a while, all that scrambling over details could result in a really well refined piece of work.

I think it is good to work towards perfection, but wanting everything perfect all the time and bashing people when things are not perfect...is a problem.

Ok well I personally consider being a control freak and a perfectionist to be separate things, sure people can have both, and they can come hand in hand, but I don't think they are entirely the same.

A perfectionist typically wants perfection, and is not satisfied with doing less than that, however that doesn't mean they will always achieve perfection, they just won't be satisfied if they don't. Or some won't do things at all if they feel they won't be able to excel( i can be like this myself at times.)

A control freak I see as just being one to want to be in control if the situation, sometimes more so like a leader, sometimes they just want everyone to leave and have them alone to do things by their selves. Whether they strive for perfection or not depends, but they do typically consider the way they are doing things correct, or the way they feel things should be done.

I guess I can see them being similar or related, but I don't think i'd personally see them as the same thing.

Now this is all my personal thoughts and definitions of a perfectionist and control freak, so feel free to disagree, it is just how I see the two traits.

Now, I wouldn't say the traits are always bad, it depends, I mean being a perfectionist you can achieve things well, and will tend not to do things half and just have them be lesser in quality.

However they can also hurt their self esteem, or spend a lot of time working for perfection which isn't technically possible.

So it can be good or bad depending on how you look at it, and the situation.

Control freak I guess can be a good thing too, depending on how you use it, but it can also be harmful to the situation.

It kinda depends upon how it's used I guess in my opinion.

I'd also like to mention I am a perfectionist to an extent, and my mother is more so. So I get it from her I think.

If you diligently build to its completion and release your wonderful work of art, yes.

If you never show your work to the world because you're too scared that it's not perfect, no.

I suppose it depends on what other personality traits that perfectionism is paired with. Perfectionism + an inferiority complex that convinces you that whatever you're working on is garbage? Good luck getting anything done. Ever.

I'd also contest the idea that perfectionism will always lead to higher quality. Ever repeat a word so often it stops making sense? A similar thing can happen when you go over your work, time and time again, revising every "mistake" until you can't even see what you're looking at anymore. The results can actually come across as more forced and awkward than what you started with.

Totally not speaking from experience.
