Old Fluttershy 349 July 19, 2014 Share July 19, 2014 Okay, so I just watched episode 13 of season 3 Magical Mystery Cure. This is the one where Twilight becomes a princess. And during the song Celestia says she has been watching Twilight from the beginning to see how she "might" grow. Now process that......If Celestia new in part what Twilight was going to become did she set up tests, and problems to make sure that Twilight would become a princess. Was the first episode where Celestia asks Twilight to "make friends" just a way to get her closer to her destiny? Since she also said during this episode that Twilight was able to make new magic from the "friendships" she's made. Also in the Crystal Empire episodes we hear Celesta and Luna talking about Twilight being ready. I don't know, maybe I'm just overanalyzing this. But what are your thoughts on this subject?
Princess Lona 382 July 20, 2014 Share July 20, 2014 Celestia was grooming Twilight to become a Princess. She saw potential in her as a foal but she had to be sure. If you only just watched Magical Mystery Cure then I'm guessing you haven't seen Equestria Girls yet. Sunset Shimmer, the villain from EQG was Celestia's protoge before Twilight, but Sunset couldn't understand friendship and ended up being expelled from Celestia's school. This proves that Celestia was trying to groom someone to be this new princess, but she couldn't see the future completely. The movie doesn't go too in depth with Sunset Shimmer's backstory, but the EQG comic does. It even hints at there being a group of ponies who could have become Sunset Shimmer's Elements of Harmony if she had just made friends with them: Notice the way these ponies mirror the personalities of some of the mane five. 6 My OC, Tabula. Nature's Spell 526 July 20, 2014 Share July 20, 2014 (edited) The show has a lot of foreshadowing that Twilight was destined for much more but she still had to prove herself. Sunset Shimmer is part of a different reality and we have no canon examples of Celestia having other students on Twilight's level. Cadence may be the only example of one in fact. Interesting thought. They're all unicorns though, I haven't read that comic. Perhaps they were all students at the same time?

I think they're all unicorns because they were all students of the school and it obviously can't be the School for Gifted Unicorns if other pony races attend. My OC, Tabula. Ashen Pathfinder 16,164 July 21, 2014 Share July 21, 2014 Well, she might've been destined for greatness, but Sunset Shimmer was supposedly destined to be as well. Celestia had a plan for Twilight and wanted to makes sure she didn't suffer the same mistakes that both Star Swirl & Sunset made. Twilight, for all of her faults, has a fairly cool head on her shoulders and is open to other people helping her. Honestly though, if she royally screwed up ala Sunset, Celestia would likely find another protege eventually. At this point Twilight is as important as any other princess and short of Celestia getting rid of Cadence and Luna too I think she'll be sticking around. Heck she waited 1,000 years for Twilight to be born. Catch up on the rest of the episodes so that you don't spoil yourself on what happens later. Further discussion of this topic might spoil things for you later. That, and this topic will deal with questioning whether or not there is overarching pre-determinism or fatalism in the mlp:fim world. It's in similar vein to the discussion that popped up when asking whether pony parents are extremely aware of the names that they give their to foals, or something about how cutie marks seem to only appear due to a pony's fate/ or predetermined life (can't recall how that other thread went, sorry).
Courageous Thunder Dash 7,825 July 22, 2014 Share July 22, 2014 The show had it from the start. In the Pilot episode, Twilight's element was a TIARA, which gave a clue that she would become a Princess. Old Fluttershy 349 July 22, 2014 Author Share July 22, 2014 I should've been more specific. I re-watched the episode. I already know about the keys and Tirek and what they had to go through to get them. So you won't spoil anything.
Zoraxe 546 July 23, 2014 Share July 23, 2014 (edited) Based on Magical Mystery Cure, Twilight had no say in the matter and Celestia is a manipulator and master of the 'Batman Gambit'. It kinda reminded me of an anime where a main character reveals that his motives for why he is in Tokyo is that back home he found out his parents had planned out his whole life for him, and he wanted to escape his parents playing God with his life and be his own person. It made me wonder if Discords 'lesson' on being a princess in season 4s opener was him mocking Celestia and Twilight. sweetolebob18 728 July 3, 2015 Share July 3, 2015 Well, Celestia said Starswirl failed because he did not completely understand friendship. I've often thought Celestia knew more than she was saying. For instance, the Summer Sun Celebration was held in Ponyville, near the Elements & 5 ponies who "just happened" to be able to wield them

Lesson Zero Twilight? Swarm of the Century Twilight? Bats! Twilight, perhaps? Maybe you're thinking of Princess Spike Twilight? Or Equestria Girls Twilight? Based on Magical Mystery Cure, Twilight had no say in the matter and Celestia is a manipulator and master of the 'Batman Gambit'. Based on MMc, Twilight had no say in the matter, because it was her who turned herself into an alicorn, not Celestia, as many have the misconception of her doing. Notice the purple energy coming out of Twilight, herself, and surrounding her. Notice Celestia's horn never glowing, not even once, during twilight's Transformation. Nature's Spell 526 July 4, 2015 Share July 4, 2015 Twilight's Cutie Mark being at the center of the Tree of Harmony might be a small clue that her journey is very real. But I do think Celestia knew the second she meet Twilight that she was special.
