yes, i 100% believe that they exist in the same world. There's plenty of evidence to suggest that it did, though past generations up to this one (just on different timelines)

no, not really. In g1, it was shown many times that that all the ponies had to do was fly over a rainbow, and at the other end, would be megan's world, where they could retrieve her. Now look at g4. There are no natural rainbows, like there were back then. The pegasus pony have a rainbow factory to make them, artificially. Most likely to prevent any ponies from getting into trouble and meeting up with humans, if they do happen to fly over a natural rainbow. Easier to produce rainbows artificially and less magically, and lessen the risk of humans ending up in and destroying their pony world.

If there is a connection, it is very ancient.  Like Gaul & France, but more so (like Atlantis).  Still, IMO, the 1st time Discord was around he messed up the weather to the point all pony civilizations collapsed (If not all civilizations in the world)  This led to the events of Hearth's Warming Eve.  IMO, the Princesses had banished Discord by then, but did not yet rule all of EQ.  Any pre Discord records are mostly lost, so it is possible.  "How probable is it?" is another question.

Ponyland and Equestria could actually be in Alternate Dimensions, but both G1 and G4 is happening at the exact same time in my headcanon multiverse.

The breezies and flutter valley are much smaller in g4, suggesting that something happened to ponyland as a whole, similar to the situation hyrule is in in TLOZ:wind waker. Some possibilities:

 

1. Ponyland is millions of years old, and breezies slowly evolved into their current form due to environmental changes.

 

2. Magic induced tramatic changes in the fabric of ponyland's reality erased, changed, and created reality until it formed modern equestria.

 

3. Ponyland is Equestria, but in the future.

 

4. Ponyland was shrunk, torn, and banished to pocket dimensions throughout equestria.

Nah, G4 is a straight-up reboot.

 

Granted my knowledge on G1 is pretty lacking, but I get the impression that the "they're set in the same world" idea needs you to ignore certain things, same as the "Equestria is post-apocalyptic Earth" idea. Both just wishful thinking that don't stand up to serious scrutiny, imo.

Friendship is Magic was supposed to fix EVERYTHING that was wrong with the other Gens. I don't think the name "Ponyland" would ever be in Equestria but I can say they are not connected in anyway, Look at this for example Tirek was in G1 or G2 can't remember but the Mane 6 knew EXACTLY who Tirek was. So G4 is basically taking place in a different universe than G1 if the Mane 6 never knew Tirek was if they were wondering who he was.
