"Awesome," Zen walked to the table and didn't stand on ceremony, he just dug in. "So Louise, what do ya think of this whole thing?" He asked with his mouth full of food. He then swallowed in one huge gulp and let out a sigh. "I'm pretty interested in what's going on. I mean, this is straight out of a comic book or something."

Luke led them over to the kitchen area. "Alright, first of all, remember back when you called me Tigereye, and I told you that you hadn't earned the right? Well now you have. You're a part of the group now, so you call me what you will. Oh, and I hope you guys like stir fry, because I can't really make anything else." He began chopping things up while a pan heated in preparation. "So miss... we haven't actually been properly introduced yet. My name is Luke Giles. Some of the people around here call me Tigereye. As far as I'm concerned, one name is as good as another, so call me either, or stick with tiger guy if you want. I don't care. And... I actually don't think I caught your name?"

 

Victor and Rikku arrived at the penthouse and Victor collapsed onto the couch with a sigh. "Hell of a night, huh? We never did eat dinner earlier. Want me to order a pizza or something?"

Nico scratched the back of his head nervously and smiled at Luke. "Sorry about that Luke. It was a slip of the tongue and I didn't realise it was your actual codename. I thought it was just a nickname or something." Nico said, he leaned against the wall and looked at him. "My name is Nico. I'm not sure if I told you my name back at the butcher's." Nico pulled out his complicated Rubrik's cube and shifted it into a mini tiger. "Is this the only form you can shift into?" Nico asked curiously,letting the metal tiger move around his palm. He held it up so that Luke and Tora could see it better.

@, Louise had also gone straight to the table and begun to eat. She was feeling so hungry that she didn't think she could wait any longer. When Zen spoke, she swallowed her mouthful and replied. "Yeah, it's just like one of those comic books. It doesn't seem real. Still, could be entertaining. I've never used my powers for good before."

"I wonder what they're gonna make us do? I'm naturally skeptical of anyone and anything that doesn't share my DNA so my hopes aren't that high." He finished his meal and decided to leave. He didn't really sleep, like, at all, so he just decided to spend the night in solitude. "I'm gonna go out for the night, but i'll see you tomorrow."

@, "OK, we can go to that place tomorrow morning," Louise replied. She was curious as to where Zen was going, but figured that she wouldn't ask to go with him. He probably had his reasons for not asking her, and Louise thought anyway that one of them had better stay at the house. After all, Rose had cooked this nice dinner for them so it wasn't really fair to leave her all alone.

"Don't worry, i'll keep an eye on the place." With that, Zen left the room, walking outside and closing the door behind him. He then looked around to make sure no one to see him use his powers. After all, no one could quite grasp what he was capable of just yet. Once the coast was clear, or at least seemed to be to him, he closed his eyes, focusing on bringing out his energy, stored over the past few days..

 

 

He looked at his hands, seeing spark fly around them randomly. To any onlooker it would seem as though he had control over electricity, but this was actually energy in it's purest state. "Time to let off some steam again." He said to himself,then crouched down and shot off into the sky, far away from everyone else, though they would be able to see a bright light ascend at a fast rate before disappearing from view.

He shrugged. "Tigereye sort of is just a nickname. We use them as handles sometimes, though. And some of us prefer to retain at least some amount of anonymity, so we don't use our real names when we're on the job. And yeah, I haven't ever been able to take any other form. I think it's actually beneficial in a way. It allows me to feel a very strong connection between both of my forms. And I've learned to channel the tiger sometimes in my human form, as well. As a martial artist, it's allowed me to create new styles and techniques. But I'm probably boring you. The answer you're looking for is yes. That's my only other form besides this one."

Nico smiled at the long-winded answer and closed his hand around the mini tiger loosely. "You could have just said yes instead of an explanation but that was appreciated." Nico said, smiling at him. He opened his hand to reveal a simple Rubik's cube. "Hey Tora, think you can solve this?" Nico asked her, handing her the cube.

Tora took the rubix cube from his hand, deciding to try and focus on something other than the food "My name is Tora, which is Japanese for tiger...I think. Which is stupid cuz I'm Chinese."

 

Rikku plopped on the other side of the couch, throwing her legs over the side "Pizza? I haven't had that before."

Luke grinned. "Perhaps there's some sort of fate at work in that. Or perhaps it's just a name. Either way, I think it suits you just fine." He turned back and messed with the cooking pan for a few moments. "Alright, the food is ready. I hope it's decent. I don't really cook all that much." He served it on three plates and set it down for them on a nearby table, sitting down to eat with them himself. By this point most of the other Heroes had left, and Highlander appeared to be busy looking over the collection of swords crammed into the corner.

 

 

Victor gave her a skeptical look. "You've never had pizza? Like, ever? I guess that settles it, then. I'll order some for us."

"Like, never. I didn't have pizza where I lived. Order some." She threw a pillow at him. "Remember, this is my first time in America."

 

Tora dug in, setting down the finished rubix cube. "I prefer tiger guy. I can't come up with a nickname for Nico though. Speaking of which; are you still hearing the ringing?"

Nico sat down in the other vacant seat and glanced at the solved Rubik's cube before having a few bites. He swallowed and thought about the food. "The food's good. I enjoy it, at least." Nico said and looked up at Tora when she mentioned the ringing in his ears. "Oh yeah! The ringing! No, I haven't heard it in a while actually. Remember how I said I could sense where other bits of technology were? I've been trying to close off those signals so taht I don't have to worry about them but so far, it's been unsuccessful with only a little bit of success."

Luke shrugged. "Tiger guy isn't a bad name, I suppose. But what's this about ringing? Part of your powers evolving? I'd direct you to a trainer, but we don't really have a tech guy, unfortunately. On the bright side, that means you'll have a unique role within our group."

 

 

The pillow hit Victor in the face as he was reaching for his phone. Whether his powers hadn't kicked in, or if he simply chose to let it hit him, he would keep to himself. "I understand that it's your first time in America but... it's just weird to think about, I guess. Well, whatever. I don't want to completely blow your mind, so we'll just get cheese on this one." He quickly looked up a local pizzeria and placed the order over the phone. "Alright, it should be here pretty quickly. The place is just down the street."

(just to provide a point tow where we don't have to worry about role paying in different times) I entered my closed in office that was the lab, and went on doing my job, once I was finished I filled out my reports and handed them to the Captain. Apparently the victim a white male, was shot in the head with a nine millimeter pistol, more then likely a deal of some type or an array of other things.

"So uh, if I study martial arts or something, it'll help me with my shifting powers?" Tora asked. She picked at the remains in her plate, just the vegatables.

 

"Blow my mind? What does this mean? Are you saying pizza can hurt you?" She sat up and ruffled her hair, looking at Victor curiously.

Luke thought about Tora's question for a while. "Well, I was a martial artist even before my powers started manifesting- I was a late bloomer, you see. I don't know really if it's more my martial arts that's benefited from my shifting or the other way around. Probably both. I'd suggest you learn at least a little. I think the discipline and the meditative aspects of it would probably help, if nothing else. And it never hurts to have a way of defending yourself in human form. I can give you special training when we start teaching you guys tomorrow, if you want. I don't like to brag, but I was a pretty good martial artist back in the day. Won a few tournaments here and there, even." He turned to Nico. "Yeah, like a technician. And you'd probably be doing some sort of surveillance type stuff to see what's going on around the city. Find the trouble that we can't find just by patrolling the streets."

 

 

Victor couldn't help but chuckle a little bit. "I'm sorry, I'm not making fun of you or anything it's just... it's actually adorable in a way, all this stuff you don't know because you didn't grow up here. It's an expression. It basically to really surprise someone, or to hit them with a really extreme sensation." The buzzer went off and he walked over to let the delivery man up before turning back to her. "Don't worry, pizza isn't going to hurt you. Your wasteline, maybe, but that's a different matter entirely." The delivery man arrived at the door and Victor quickly exchanged cash for pizza before closing the door and bringing the box over to her. "It's late, I don't really feel like bothering with plates. That going to be okay with you? You eat pizza with your hands anyway."

Louise settled down in the living room to watch TV with Rose, tho part of her wished she had gone with Zen. Still, he'd be back and then in the morning, they'd head to that place. The peace was interrupted by a banging on the door. Rose nervously got up to answer it; Louise turned the TV down and listened.

 

A rough voice, first of all. "I hope you're not going to make things difficult for us, Rosie. You see, it's such a waste, you knocking around in that big lonely house all by yourself. It makes more sense that you leave, and let us take it over."

 

Rose's frightened voice. "N-no, I couldn't possibly! I bought this house and..."

 

"That means nothing!" the rough voice jeered.

 

Louise had heard enough. She got up and went into the hallway. The doorway was open, and in it stood a man and a girl. The girl had shocking pink hair and grey eyes; the man black hair and blue eyes. Both were scruffy, and obviously lived on the street. These were clearly two of the metas bothering Rose and it was just as clearly up to Louise to get rid of them. She walked up to them, gently nudging Rose aside. "Problem?" she asked them, mockingly. The girl bristled.

 

"Who asked you to interfere?" she said.

 

"As it happens, my housemate Rose," Louise replied. "If you won't go by yourself, I'm sure I can persuade you. Let's take this outside, shall we?"

 

Quickly, before either could react, Louise stepped outside the house and closed the door so that Rose would be safe, then said, "Which of you's gonna take me on first?"

 

The man stepped forward. His power was super strength, and he felt that this girl was not going to be any kind of a problem. However, there was an element to Louise's power which she hadn't discovered yet, which had manifested when she'd had the injection. Neither of these metas had had the injections. Louise laid her hand on the man's shoulder and instantly felt that she could do something she never had done before. She acted on the impulse, and the man dropped to the floor, howling in pain as Louise used her power to break his leg bones. It seemed that she could now control other people's bones, but only when touching them. The girl stared, then tried to use her own power against Louise. She could throw energy balls which exploded on impact with clothing and skin. Louise grew a broad bat shaped bone out of her forearm and used it to hit the balls back at the girl.

 

"Catch!" she yelled, sarcastically as the balls smacked off the bone and rebounded back on the girl. They hit her and she flinched at the explosion, falling to her knees. Louise stared at her. "I think you and your friend had better leave," she said, withdrawing the bone bat into her arm. "And don't ever come back, or it'll be worse for you." She walked to the door, opened it with her key and walked inside, shutting it behind her.

 

Rose was smiling happily. "You got rid of them!" she exclaimed. "Oh, I'm so happy you and your friend came to stay!"

 

Louise returned the smile. "No problem," she said.

Nico leaned back in his chair and thought about what Luke had said. "Surveillance? Sounds like something the cops would do. If you want me to, though, I can do surveillance on areas you aren't patrolling in and also maintain the equipment here." Nico told them and winced when he struggled to close off the signals he kept 'seeing' in his head.

Luke almost laughed. "Sometimes I forget how new you guys are. The cops should do a lot of things, but they're underfunded and have all kinds of red tape to deal with. If they actually did everything they were supposed to, we wouldn't need to exist. But that just isn't possible with how little this city cares about law enforcement. Don't worry, I'm not asking you to peep into people's houses or tap their phones- although you may want to keep your ears open with those signals you keep getting."

tora quietly listened to Luke talking to Nico. Yawning and turning into a cat, curling up in the seat of her chair.

 

Rikku took a slice and bit into it happily. She'd work off the greasy slice in the morning with a jog. "It's very good. I like pizza."

"'Keep my ears open'? I would do that except the signals make my ears ring and they also give me a massive headache." Nico told Luke, counting the problems on his fingers. He covered his mouth when he uawnedband looked at Luke. "Since we're sleeping here for the night, where are Tora and I sleeping?" Nico asked Luke and took a quick look at Tora. He couldn't see her but once he peeked over the table, he saw that she was a cat.
