I'm definitely on board! Grown up with Star Trek, and love sci-fi! Not sure what kind of character I would use, but would love to help come up with the technology! Heck, if you want, I can even come up with a few ship designs for ya, depending on what kind of systems they have (drive system, weapons, gravity, etc...). Sci-Fi tech is my bread and butter!!!

 

Oh, and gotta love coincidences! My own fanfic I am writing, is similar to this (yet different). also called 'Legacy', takes place in the future, ponies heading out into space, etc. Mane difference: Equestria has been conquered by aliens, and the heroes are on a quest to free it.

 

anyway, i love your idea, and would be happy to help out with tech creation!

The subject spacecraft which would take players to the other star system is (in real world units) roughly 1.5 kilometers long, simulates microgravity by spinning the habitation modules, and its cruising speed is half the speed of light, which takes six months of acceleration to reach. It took 25 years to plan and build (so it's unique), and in full truth has a crew of 32. We would just be concerning ourselves with a smaller group within that, to keep things more concentrated. (I've actually crunched a lot of numbers behind this spaceship and how it works, but I'm not going to lay those out unless it's relevant.) Alien species might be encountered, that's something I'm still thinking about. Though if you have ideas on the Landers, I could listen to those.

 

I just wanted to be clear: this story if anything will be more like James Cameron's Avatar than any other sort of recent space movie/franchise, except taking place during or before the very first venture to Alpha Centari, rather than decades after establishing a mining colony like you see in the movie.

Height of Habitation Module: 110 meters

Habitation Module Maximum Rotation Speed: 12°/s (2 rpm)

Crew: 32, 3 robots

 

Mass Initial: 489 056 900kg (including 2 fueled Landers)

Mass Final: 260 800 125 kg (including 2 fueled Landers)

Maximum Acceleration: 2.1G prograde, 1.95G retrograde (waste heat endurance limited to less than 200 hours of continuous firing at this level)

Optimal Acceleration: 1.3G prograde or retrograde

Minimum Acceleration: 0.095G prograde or retrograde

Delta-V: ~720 000 000m/s (calculate based on a “maximum safe” velocity of 0.5c)

Specific Impulse: 200 000 000 seconds ±10 750 (variable output)

It looks like basically nobody cares about a sci-fi RP, so I guess I'll be shelving the idea.

i'll have to come up with a new OC for this.  also, if you're hoping that we would get enough people to RP the entire crew, you might be disappointed.  I'd suggest scaling back the crew a bit, so others don't feel overwhelmed when deciding to join the RP.

Huh. From the title, I thought it would be a 2001 crossover (I need to use that someday), but this sounds like a full-fledged sci-fi novel in the works.

Rarity is the best thing in my life.

 

Where would I be without her? Nowhere I'd like to be, that's for sure.
