Diamond Tiara headcanon

It was rough but I managed to make a DT headcanon I could empathize with. Its hard when she seems like such a shallow character but I think what I have works with it.

 

From what I understand we have only seen Diamonds father. Her mother is never mentioned. If it means what I think than DT's mother is dead or divorsed with her father with Custody.

 

Filthy Rich seems like a nice fellow who gets along with ponies so how did his daughter turn out the way she has? I personally think Dt is trying to live up to her fathers name and Become an important mare to make him proud. Problem is she doesn't know how to do that, which makes her insecure. She takes this insecurity out on fillies who are happy to try and find who they are. All she has is a diamond tiara cutie mark and this need to be the boss and center of attention. Its scary trying to keep up an image when you are lost inside.

 

She would benifit from dealing with Rarity and Applejack and they could show her how to really act and help her get all that stress off her chest.

 

Do you hope they flesh her out like I do? I would love to see some depth to her character.

Well, having insecurity that manifests itself as bullying behavior is extremely common amongst children, and  with her being a seemingly only child with one rich overworked parent (as she does not seem to interact with her father all that often) she would fit the classical trope of the neglected rich daughter that turns to bullying others in an attempt to deal with her own emotional misgivings and shortcomings. 

 

And I would like to see her given more character. In ponyville confidential she was rather interesting to see and I think we all would enjoy seeing more to her than just a 1 dimensional bully.

I think her father doesn't pay any attention to her because he only cares about money, and DT just wants some love, now there's Applebloom, who has such a nice family even though she has no parents, so she's jealous and that's the only reason she's always trying to make her life impossible (the whole Cutie Mark business is just an excuse). In "Flight To The Finish" Silver Spoon said "We already called them blank flanks".

In my headcanon, someday, possibly soon, Silver Spoon will wise up. On that day, she will seriously tell off Diamond Tiara. Dia will cry, thinking she lost her only friend. Once Dia starts trying to make amends, love will bloom, and she'll become much more than Silver Spoon's best friend. At the risk of sounding silly, think about Little House on the Prairie. (love that show!) Nellie Oleson became a very nice person once she found her true love in Percy.

 

In all seriousness, please don't make nasty comments about them both being fillies. I personally see absolutely nothing wrong with love between anyone/anypony. I also have headcanon about Princess Celestia and Twilight falling in love, (Twilight already loves Celestia!) and having Equestria's next royal wedding!

I think it's something personal against Applebloom. Check the show again; Diamond Tiara doesn't bully anybody except Applebloom and those connected with her. According to the first episode she shows up, she doesn't know Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo are, or that they're even blank flanks. She also stops bullying Twist and Babs Seed when they stop being Applebloom's friend...

Daw shucks thanks. The way I see it its good to have different perspectives on things. How can we learn anything new about something if we all observe from the same angle and think the same way?

Your idea does make sense, especially when you consider how much adoration she gives her dad. Maybe one day, Hasbro will break and decide to give Diamond Tiara one of those choice scenes that defines her character. I'll take anything; showing how she met Silverspoon, lack of mother, reasons for being a bully(the cutie mark thing is...kinda weak). It's really the fact that they haven't explored any part of her character that's the frustrating part.

It's more solid than op's headcanon (not dissing your headcanon bruh)

Hope that works. I wrote it with a cell phone and the touch screen is rather unruly. It likes to capitalize random works and sling commas in places.

So you want her to remain a flat, uninteresting bully character with no other purpose or room for development? I do not understand the logic of putting a character in a niche box and not letting them flesh out. That is just bad writing. The mlp writers showed again and again that even big bad evils can be brought to a more empathetic level without sacrificing their character, so why not a harmless spoiled filly? Why are you so insistant that diamond Tiara stay a hated character when Sunset Shimmer, Trixie, and other similar characters get the chance to mature into something better?

But another thing, you kinda need villains for some plots. If all the villains turn good then that puts a whole lot of episode possibilities down the drain. Not everyone in the real world stops being mean, some people never learn their lesson. It's the way it is sometimes.

That is reasonable. I am not saying it should happen right away mind you, I had whiplash from how fast Sunset Shimmer went good, but rather a side arc over a season where Daimond and the cmc come to an understanding. That is fodder for many MANY episode ideas. Flat villains have their uses as one shot characters like in Rarity takes manehattan, but if they are a recurring character give them depth.

You're right, she was designed to be hated. Which means she can be designed to be loved, or at least understood. 

As of right now, she's not even a full character, more of a plot device. The motivations for her behavior are still entirely up in the air, which makes her different from characters like Tirek and the Flim-Flam brothers. They have ideas that force them to be evil in order to get what they want-power and wealth,specifically- and she has none. There's literally nothing to stop her from becoming a nice character. Given what we have, she could very realistically grow into a character we could empathize with.

It's Diamond Tiara's main problem. She was written as a one-shot character, but she's stuck around for multiple episodes. The things she does make so little sense from a logical position now that it passed suspension of disbelief for me on the third episode. It's actually kind of sad... she's really just Hasbro's sock puppet/ magical plot device button at the current time.

But that isn't the purpose she's supposed to serve, as of right now in the foreseeable future
