Meh, I've never been the biggest football fan. Come the Superbowl, I usually just play video games elsewhere with the other exiles. 

 

I would say the OP got it the closest though. I just like to think of various names the football teams would have.

We could call the Manehattan team the Wingers (reference to the Jets) and the Canterlot team the Alicorns.

It would be hard to tackle a pony. Especially since Unicorns have magic, Pegasi can just fly over you, and earth ponies would probably have a good sense of balance to where they would break through 4-5 tacklers. Making a huge play almost every time on the field.

 

Also their defense would be good since the pegasi fly, and unicorns with their magic. Interceptions would happen frequently. Earth ponies would have amazing hit power to rival Ray Lewis. Causing fumbles.

 

Quite a dominate team.
