How you became a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic: I've been a big fan of My Little Pony since I was a child when they first came out during the 1980's. I've discovered FiM on the internet in the spring of 2011(I think). I was hooked on the show ever since.

Hello fellow MLP fans! I want to inform you that I'm visiting the site as part of a Composition 2 assignment. We're doing essays about online communities. I needed to join an online community so I could get some insider/member information. To be honest, I wanted to join a brony website or a long time, but I was a little nervous; but here I am now.

     Because I'm here as a student with an assignment, I prefer not to reveal my true human name at this time. Please understand that this is for privacy reasons, so for now just call me SilverLine. I'll be asking simple questions at some point, so if anypony is willing to answer them, it would be most appreciated. Who knows? I might decide to stay and make friends.

"Communities tend to share a common vocabulary, or lexicon, often in acronyms or slang/lingo generated by the community. What are the words that are part of this community's lexicon, and what do they mean/refer to? Give 6-10 words."

 

So I need to know at least 6 or 10 words from your community's lexicon. Please post a list of the words you know and share with each other, and what do they mean and/or refer to. Don't worry, all I need are 6 or more words. Thank you. *brohoof*

Well, some words we use here are:
Brohoof (equivalent to liking someone's post)

"Welcome to the herd!" (a way of welcoming someone to the community)

"Don't feed the parasprites" (meaning don't feed the trolls/don't give people something to hate)

"Oh my celestia!" (bronies' way of saying "Oh my god!", Princess Celestia being a celestial being.)

Everypony (ponies instead of everybody)

Pinkamena Diane Pie (FAN DEFINITION: An evil version of Pinkie Pie; originated from "Cupcakes HD")

 

Those are just some off the top of my head. Hope it helped!

Hey there @SilverLine welcome to MLP Forums!

We get quite a few people doing surveys, and essays here on the forums. Especially for research assignments, in fact I know one of our members, is doing one at the moment. I have no idea whether your research covers the same points, but I'm sure you'll both find it equally beneficial to get in contact with each other. I gave him a useful tip on how to go about with his data collection, you might find it useful too, you may find it useful to share tips. Otherwise, I'm always available to help.

 

Sadist has already mentioned the Twilight Sparkle Fan Club, which I think you'll enjoy. That's good fun too, you might like it there. Also, in response to your question XTHPony has practically hit the nail on the hit with most of the jargon used here, although there are some more which currently evade me at the present time. Here are some which I've managed to think of: 

- MLP = My Little Pony

- FiM = Friendship is Magic

- Flutters = Fluttershy

- Everypony/Anypony = Ponified versions of "everybody" and "anybody"

 

I'd be happy to answer any more questions, although I'd suggest moving any further questions to Sugarcube Corner to keep the introductory post on topic.

Yeah, I'm working on a research project on bronies for composition II. I've already gathered about a million truckloads of information on the subject of bronies, so I may be of assistance there.

To answer a few of your questions:

Well there are quite a few.  There are a lot of words common among Bronies in general such as:

 

Brohoof - Fist bump

Somepony/Everypony/Anypony - Somebody, etc

Brony - Fans of MLP

Ponify - Making something not MLP related, MLP related

Love & Tolerate - Sort of a catchphrase used by some in the brony community to summarize the idea of being kind and civil with everypony, even if they're not kind back.

And most importantly, flank = butt, case you have to know how to say butt in brony.

 

And lots of others in the fandom, really too many to list (we like our made up words and phrases).

 

Then the forum has a few terms and things related to forum functions.  For example, New Members are called Blank Flanks because that's the name of the initial member badge, instead of liking a post on here you brohoof a post, things like that.  

 

I'm sure you'll pick up on lots of these sort of things when you browse the forum a bit more.
