How To Find A Brony Special Talent

Arctofire

Recommended Posts

Hello, my name is Aidan. I have been watching the show for a couple of months and I would consider myself very much a brony. Although I do not have any merchandise I have watched every episode and have subscribed to many Youtubers, watched a lot of fan projects, and read a lot of fanfiction.

Now even though I am a brony, I am a very average one. I know that for a lot of people MLP has encouraged people to go out and do something creative, that is a sign of a great fandom. The problem is I haven't got something creative MLP related that I enjoy or are good at, and a lot of bronies do.

So I tried writing fanfiction but I am not very good at writing stories because I am a perfectionist and worry so much about grammar that I can never get into the fun of doing it. I considered doing Youtubing but I have to write scripts which is a similar thing, although I do have a good critical mind and can imagine doing reviews in my head, but I stutter a lot whilst actually recording and that's a shame because I have very strong opinions on various episodes and would love to share them.

I am not very good at drawing, animation is too difficult, too expensive, and I was good at fan editing and enjoyed doing that until I got stuck on video decoding which I may have to do whilst doing animation. And I am not advanced enough at music to consider making MLP music.

So do you have any advice or ideas for what to do.

Well.....at-first I tried music but it was all too strenuous for me plus I only focused on progressive house rather than different types of genres, I then went into Art. I've been doing Graphics design for roughly 2 years and wanted to try digital art/illustration and what better than to create pony artwork? Albeit my drawing skills are average I work on it everyday and that's the fun thing it's just a hobby and I see a progression in my skills, art doesn't have to be perfect it's the way you perceive it which makes IT perfect.

Many bronies I've come across draw and enjoy it some in which have even told me they started from nothing and now they can design some pretty big things, it's just the time and dedication you put which progresses your skill it took me 8 months to learn Photoshop and yet...I struggle still with the Pen Tool -_- though I love it as a hobby!

Overall I would recommend you start drawing you never know what a simple hobby can turn into that being said you seem like the type of person that is committed and dedicated and drawing requires that :)

I've done art and written quite a bit of stuff, and the one thing I admire about the strength of this community is the open environment you could use to try whatever you want. You could do episode reviews if creative writing isn't exactly your thing. We have a nice blogging system on this site for you to use for that. Also, try out the roleplay community. They can help you develop your writing talents to better your ability at storytelling if you're not too confident in it, and there is plenty of documentation available there for you to learn how to do it right and do it well.

If you'd like to learn anything, don't hesitate to search. There are plenty of resources in the fandom for almost every kind of creative output there is.

everything is difficult at the start.

stutter too much in your videos?

do a lot of videos.

suck at drawing?

draw a lot.

suck at music?

read up about music theory and whatnot, i don´t know anything about it;

and practice.

the point is that you can become good at everything, if you just work hard and believe in yourself.

i know it sounds cliché, but there is a reason why  it´s said so many times.

you shouldn´t ask yourself what you are good at, but instead:

what do you ENJOY doing?

what do you ADMIRE?

if you just look at people that are better than you at what you enjoy, it´s easy to get motivated.

Thanks guys, all of what you guys have said is true, I will try all of it. I don't know what to say when my problem is solved but I'm just going to state that you don't need to post on it anymore; my question is answered.

Yeah you should try that. You see I'm an average neutral who dosent really have anything to give as a special talent which is probably the reason I never tried for anything at school

Hi there, i know you said not to post anymore but just a suggestion:

You said in your first message that your not good at drawing and if you were planning on trying it out

you could always get some mlp bases and then trace until you get confident with your drawing

thats how i started out

I hope i helped

If you want to do something for the fandom then there are other ways besides the creative arts. Just taking part on the forums is a good start. Giving people a reason to stay and continue to watch the show. If you find you have a critical mind then give debates a whirl. We have an entire section for it, though not all of it is MLP-based. Get people to think about the show in different ways.
