Arctofire 227 December 19, 2014 Share December 19, 2014 (edited) As you can see by the title I'm going to be doing a MLP version of Belated Media's: How To Make Star Wars Episode I Good video. I do not like this movie one bit, but I think some ideas in it had some potential. So here is my version of Equestria Girls. Now a major problem in this movie was the villain. Now I don't hate Sunset Shimmer, I mean she was the best thing about the second film. But the problem is that in this film she was written very poorly because: we didn't get to explore her backstory; her redemption was rushed and there was nothing building up to it; and she doesn't ever pose much of a threat. This one was of the films major flaws, and one that I attempt to fix. So here we go and get started with the story. We start in a much different fashion to the original film with on screen text reading `10 Years Before The Events Of Friendship is Magic`. Basically here we get the story of The Fall Of Sunset Shimmer comic book told in around 3 minutes. This is very important because it explains Shimmers backstory and makes for a stronger film. After her escape into the mirror we get the opening credits, which are much less poppy and more serious to build excitement and tension. We then get a on screen text reading `11 Years Later`. Here it is almost identical to the real film until they are told to go to bed by Celestia. We get a scene between Celestia and Lunar where Celestia expresses concern about the return of Shimmer and why she called the elements of harmony for defense. She intents to tell them in the morning. We then go back to similar to the original film, except Shimmer is a little more ninja like and more precocious. Twilight Sparkle however senses disturbance in magic energy and she wakes up to see Shimmer escaping with the crown. We get the action scene we got in the original and Sunset jumps into the portal. And then we get a much more detailed version of the scene where Celestia tells Twilight about Shimmer (at nighttime right after the attack unlike the original). She tells her that she was the original candidate for the element of magic, so that with the more powerful elements combined by friendship instead of just normal magic, she could bring her sister back. She then explains that she has known and felt her need to return for a while and that she wanted to become a princess and that's why she fell from grace. Which is why she's jealous of Twilight, and wants her dead as she became a princess and did everything Sunset failed to do. We then get a scene when Sunset comes out of the portal at the other side and Fluttershy picks it up quickly, thinking it was lost before Shimmer could claim it. Sunset then sees Fluttershy run off with it in her bag and we cut back to Equestria. The film then continues as the original does, with Twilight falling into the portal and working out how to use her new body (although in this version she is more in character and we do not have the gags like we do in the original). We do not have the song in this version as it has a more serious tone, so we see Twilight discover CHS and immediately get to Shimmer bullying Fluttershy (No Brad in this version, or at least not yet). The scene plays out similar to the original except that Shimmer knows full well who Twilight Sparkle is and what she is looking for, and we get a shot which makes this obvious. Twilight asks for the crown from Principal Celestia, except this time she says that it was her crown and it was not the same as the one for the fore formal. However Celestia doesn't believe her, saying that if this isn't the crown for the fore formal then where is it. Twilight then walks out and gets angry and anxious that she didn't bring the other crown as proof, but then Spike assures her that she didn't know that she would need it, and we get a good bonding moment between the two of them. Twilight then says that she is going to attempt to rob the crown. They head to the library for the night (before she has lunch with Fluttershy in this version) and then attempts to break into the principals office to steal it. But not only does she not know the location of the crown within the room and that all the draws are locked. But she also meets Sunset Shimmer trying to do the exact same thing. We then get a scene where Sunset tells her what happens when you bring an element of harmony into an alternate world much earlier. Except there is an extra bit where Twilight tries to convince her to come back to Equestria and how much Celestia loves and misses her, (this was explained in the scene were Celestia told Twilight about Sunset before she jumped into the mirror). Sunset refuses, but we do get a moment were Sunset appears to be very like Twilight (not sure how), and then says that Celestia will never forgive her, how she has rejected friendship in both worlds and that she must continue the path she has chosen, even if it is wrong. This gives Sunset more depth. So now we cut to day time and meet all of the human mane 5, except they don't have the friendship issue in this version and have been friends all this time. They welcome Twilight to the school and go to The Sugarcube Corner, and HERE's where we meet Brad. He says similar dialogue to what he says when he first meets Twilight at the beginning in the original film, and then Rarity explains that she's Sunsets ex-boyfriend. Now in this version Twilight (attempting to redeem Sunset and find out more about her) asks her about this as she said she was only here for power, but this evidence proves otherwise, and maybe she does care about others deep down. She goes to Sunet but she punches her and says she doesn't want to talk about Brad, Twilight accidentally provokes her by saying that she is here for something more than just power, that she does have good in her and Sunset punches her harder. She says that Brad dumped her a few weeks ago and how he has a crush on Twilight, making her feel awful about herself. She also says she lives in a old warehouse and how she has had to make a fake birth certificate to be able to live here, her life has been extremely difficult. After Twilight says that it doesn't have to be this way and that love and friendship are the key to get the things she really wants, she goes all wise, having a lot of misguided wisdom. She says that she does regret her lust for power and having no friends, both on Earth and in Equestria, but that she cannot reverse what she has done. How she has chosen her path and that there is no other way for her now. She has made her life bad for herself and agrees with a lot of what Twilight has said, but that she will continue because there is no going back and the crown is now her chosen purpose. If Twilight will not help her get the crown, which she understands, she will have no choice but to kill her to achieve her goal. This shows that Twilight has inserted more good into Sunset and that she is not raging with envy anymore, but understands her faults. The film then continues as normal till the scene where Snips and Snails take Spike. The only differences being that in this version: Brad has not been seen again; the conflict about Twilight wrecking the hall lasted longer; it was Rainbow that covered up for her; and the only song has been Helping Twilight Win The Crown. Changes start to happen when Sunset says that she is about to smash the portal. In this version Twilight actually gives up, saying that Shimmer has won as she hands over the crown and Twilight looses hope. We then get the same action scene as the original film but with a few differences. For one Sunset's demon looks more menacing; secondly Sunset explains that with Celestia and Lunar doppelganger she will be able to conquer the 4 Princesses; and she also explains that the elements of harmony work as a force of evil instead of good in the human world because it is a much darker world with evil's far greater than that of Equestria. However the human mane 6 defeat her and instead of the pop music in the original it is replaced with an orchestral score that pays homage to the first 2 parter of the show. Sunset Shimmer is then defeated and it plays out similarly to the original. Except the subplot in this version about Sunset Shimmer turning good is wrapped up and Twilight convinced Sunset that its never too late to change, as well as Sunset blessing Twilight and saying that she now finally understands the reason why Twilight became princess: because she can bring people back from evil. The end of the Fore Formal dance is absent in this version and after people go back indoors and Sunset is left to fix the door, Twilight and Spike go home. and the rest of the film is the same minus the Brad bit in Equestria. So what do you guys think, please discuss. Edited December 20, 2014 by Arctofire
Freewave 1,145 December 19, 2014 Share December 19, 2014 Honestly I don't see what the point of your post is. If Hasbro puts out a half-baked movie concept, it's not up to the fans to fix it. Or if you feel it is, do it in a fimfiction. Writing out a massive post on what you'd change doesn't really change a thing (and is more suitable for a blog post). There's a load of things I'd change about EQGirls but the main one is the terrible premise; having an adult princess thrown into high school life was just a ploy to sell to toys and cash in on Barbie, Monster High, Ever After, etc. It's insulting to the characters and their brony fans and leaving a load of toys unpurchased in their toy aisles this year. And by doing that Hasbro did more harm than good in my book. And that you can't really fix. 1 I have made brony music since 2011. I like all kinds of music and genres. I'm sure you'll like some of it.. Here's My YouTube..I have several albums on Bandcamp and Pony.FM. Check out the 20+ Musician project Maressey which I am running. Arctofire 227 December 20, 2014 Author Share December 20, 2014 Its just for a bit of fun really, and speculating about how it could have been a good film. I know the concept is rubbish but I'm just going from the assumption that if it had to be high school, this would be the best way.
sweetolebob18 728 December 20, 2014 Share December 20, 2014 Well, you've got a point, but from years of watching Super Heroes get turned into movies, some good, more bad I think the problem is this. The original fans are way more into the characters than the average viewer. The movie has to be more into what the average viewer wants & understands. If not, you'll lose them & the movie won't make money (The horror, the horror!). True fans often get shorted because there just aren't enough to matter at the box office. IMO, Hasbro shorted SS back story because they figured (right or wrong) the average viewer wouldn't care. Harlan Ellison once said they needed an additional screen credit. After Written by, Produced be, etc. they needed "Concept Screwed Over By" (PG version of actual comment)

Singe 2,111 December 21, 2014 Share December 21, 2014 (edited) I would have had Twilight make friends with new original characters rather than an alternate dimension friendship rehash of the Mane 5. They could still be around doing their own thing or some in cahoots with Sunset rather than Snips and Snails. The movie already has Twilight out of her comfort zone, so make her work with new characters. Edited December 21, 2014 by Singe

The movie already has Twilight out of her comfort zone, so make her work with new characters. That's actually a very good idea, and will make it feel less like a cash grab and more trying out something new. Another change I would make is the animation style, it looks to flashy and colorful. Now in Friendship is Magic this really worked because of the tone and fantasy of the world. But I think the animation style needs to be changed slightly. For starters the genders are more diverse, not every girl wears skirts, most were jeans and pants. Also different people are different shapes and sizes and are more well proportioned, with smaller heads and bigger bodies. As my last post said that we would be using original characters instead of human mane 5 (which I think is a very good idea). I would also ditch the colored skin tones and instead have normal earth skin tones. Feel free to add more changes, this is a group discussion. Sazama Ichida 2,367 December 23, 2014 Share December 23, 2014 I really just wished that they could use magic there. Without it having to be brought there so to speak. Even without horns Twilight and Sunset could just do it the way mages do right? The White Shinigami

EQG is almost exactly the same as the show episodes just people. I swear to god if you switch it to ponies it'll be loved. Indeed. I don't get it either. Especially considering all the freaking fan art I found of them as humans before the movie was even made AND how so many people talked about the sexual fantasies they had of them if they were humans...And then when Hasbro actually does decide to make a movie with them as humans suddenly everyone starts bitching about it? What the actual fuck? Jeez what a bunch of hypocrites... 1 The White Shinigami
Snow Frostflame 3,568 December 23, 2014 Share December 23, 2014 my only response to this is.... IT IS GOOD! I bet you if they used ponies instead of humans then EQG wouldn't even get half the hate it normally gets.... but that's just my opinion

Arctofire 227 December 23, 2014 Author Share December 23, 2014 Well I didn't think so, but I think people on this forum are more likely to like the movie. In reality the fanbase is at war about it, I don't see why as for me it was a trainwreck that almost ruined the franchise (failing luckily).
