I just got done watching the episode and I thought it was intense

Honestly, that bit brought a smile to my face.

 

I thought this was a pretty good episode, and, compared to the style and tone of previous Christmas specials, fairly unique too. Watching through the episode, the Dream Crabs seem an interesting sort of enemy; it was only after watching, though, that I had a Fridge Horror moment that makes them even more terrifying. Bear with me:

 

 

Okay, so, the way the Dream Crabs work is that they give you an 'anaesthetic', right? To put you off the fact that they are sucking your brain dry, they give you something to relax you, like how Clara's dream (well, one of them) involved Danny and Christmas, since they calmed her. Right? Also, at one point in the episode, the Doctor points out that you can never be certain that what you're experiencing is not a dream. With me so far?

 

Now, imagine the people who've seen this episode, and let's just assume that, for at least some of them, they find celebrating Christmas itself and watching Doctor Who with their family around the TV very relaxing things. Okay?

How do they know that they aren't dreaming themselves? What if, while they're experiencing this fantasy where they're comfortable and relaxed, outside of the dream a Dream Crab is drinking away their life, getting filled while the person having the dream is dying? And if time in the dream passes more quickly than in real life, then what's not to say that, if you feel like you've been relaxed for months, you've actually been dreaming for a few minutes in the real world, with a Dream Crab around your head all that time? 

 

 

...I may be overthinking it, though

 

I also loved that they worked the original plan for Clara's exit into the scene near the end where the Doctor decides to go back for her- it was a great way to join the two together again, in my opinion.
