I agree, having her being a Malfoy is not something I would allow either. I would also agree not all Slytherins are means, though they do offer something of a reputation that is not always good it would seem suggested in the books.

True, but it was said by JK Rowling afterwards that a lot of Slytherins came back with Slughorn to fight in the Battle of Hogwarts. Wish she'd said it in the book, tho.

Anyway, I've seen lots of OCs who are related to canons (mostly Malfoy and Potter, tho I've seen a Granger and also a Riddle and a Dumbledore) and without exception, they are horrid Mary Sues. OP, warping canons out of character and often very unrealistic regarding the HP universe; for example, a half elf when the only elves in HP are house elves and the author meant a LOTR style elf. XD

@@Pripyat Pony,

How about this: The Slytherin House has a less then positive reputation among many with many evil witches and wizard coming from this house. Yet many see it as the best and purest house or at least worthy of respect with, many Slytherins themselves have proven themselves to be on the side of good and having more friendly manner.

@@Midnight_Aurora,

Yet the House's foundation of pure blood elitism doesn't help people liking them. I would also mention, even if it may be an exaggeration, the line that "There's not a single witch or wizard who went bad who wasn't in Slytherin" has something that can be taken from it.

The point I am trying to make is that while yes while Slytherins have a certain reputation, that doesn't mean they are all or even perhaps mostly bad. Heck, Mythos Gray is a Slytherin through and through yet if an evil wizard came around to cause trouble he would be among the first to step forward to play his part in stopping him... especially if it was Hogwarts that was threatened.

Admittingly, he also has the more negative aspect of Slytherin cunning, which can show itself when he uses his charm and polite way of speaking to manipulate others and get them to see his way of thing.

On the topic of Slytherin and its reputation;

Slytherin produces some of the greatest known wizards since they are known for their unfaltering ambition for their goals, top notch leadership abilities and cunning which usually gets them in high positions.

These are traits not necesarely evil but many who strife for perfection or domination over others tend to have these traits.

Is Slytherin itself to blame just because many "evil" wizards have these traits?

@@Floris,

On your question... perhaps not fully no. It's just that the very traits Slytherin House most prizes in its students are the very ones that can be most readily corrupted. Ambition being a big contender as while this trait is not evil, it is held by those who are most likely willing to do anything in fulfilling their goals or desires. This is especially the case when feeding into the mentality many pure blood family have they are simply better then other wizards and that muggles are lower still.

The question many Slytherins would perhaps ask themselves is why shouldn't they be in charge, or decide what is best for others? Why, if they are the house who bring about the best of witches and wizards should they not consider the founder's wish for only pure bloods to come to the school? Why is it that they should not look down on those not of pure blood, or worse have muggle born parents?

Their ambition, their cunning, their wish for perfection and greatness are the very traits that could lead to less savory figures either from mere unbearable pride, to that of stepping on others they bring themselves up, to outright bigotry of non-purebloods. There is quite a bit of heritage and tradition blended into the fabric of who and what being a Slytherin means, not all of which is exactly bad but can lead to both the greatest or worst of witches and wizards.

--------------------------------------------

Thankfully, this is a MLP/Harry Potter roleplay. I feel it fair to say the the worst of the book series and movies will be less severe in the roleplay since the more idealized and positive setting of Equestria will balance things out. Heh

@,

Sorry for rambling on, I have read the book series and full and thouh long on many of the themes or ideas shown. I think we may be able to start today... though the question is who will be leading this roleplay, who will be the first to post?

Or I should say, the one to create the new OOC, and IC thread once we have more players, so as to get going with this.

@,

Hmm, well since I was the second in command that makes me the one in charge given line of 'authority'. Sighs, I guess I can start us out and get us going though I will be needed to find a second in command of my own since I don't want to be doing this all alone.

Though possibly not today, I need to finish up my posts for Princess Celestia since my responsibilities playing her come first.
