movies/tv Why did Hasbro go to Discovery for The Hub?

The moment The Hub was announced to become Discovery Family, I knew Discovery Communications wasn't the best company for Hasbro to choose for their new network. But of all the TV owners, why did Hasbro choose Discovery for the joint partnership? Why not NBCUniversal?, outside of Sprout, they have no general kids/family channel. Why not A&E Networks? They have no kids' network period. I'm not sure why Hasbro thought the company who specializes in reality shows and edutainment documenteries was the best option to parter for a general entertainment kids network.

Did you know that Hasbro was always with Discovery Communications since the day they decided to form a joint venture with Discovery back in 2009, which paved the way for The Hub replacing Discovery Kids in 2010. Discovery still had the rights to do anything with the channel since they were in charge of advertising sales and distribution of channel while Hasbro acquired or produced most of the programs.

As for your other questions, I don't have any answers for them.

I know plans for The Hub began as early as 2009, but I'm asking why did Hasbro choose Discovery as their partner.

It probably has to do with business bidding or something. You'd have to pry more into their history for that.

Why is anybody's guess, however, I imagine Discovery would have been one of the few media outlets that would not have seen itself to be in direct competition with Hasbro, either in making children's TV shows or in producing toys. Many other media outlets would have been co-owned by a competing toy company.

Which is why A&E networks or NBC would've been better options. Knowing Discovery, I knew it was a matter of time until The Hub gets screwed arround with and made another network. Discovery is notorious for scrapping and relaunching networks too quickly, look at Discovery Wings, it went through 3 different names already. It's like they're not really committed to these channels, and acts as if TV networks are easily disposable when that isn't really the case.
