Because headwear and eye shape are a good guide to determining identity.

? two totally different ponies ?

In that case, literally everything else about them is identical.

In this case, there is *nothing* to suggest these two figures are the same, other than that they have hoods and glowing eyes.  And even here, the hoods and glowing eyes look different.

And in this case, the Castle Mania picture is *literally* nothing but glowing yellow eyes and hood.  So when those look different from Tirek's pic, there is *nothing* to compare them on.

I know most of the fandom doesn't like the Mysterious Mare Do-Well episode (most of it is really badly-written), but it's got the best RD scene in the show. I have yet to see something that surpasses this scene, and I doubt I will again.

I completely forgot about this scene, but then I saw Drowning in Horseshoes' analysis of it. Probably the best review/analysis material to ever come out of this fandom.

For anyone who hasn't seen it, here's the video.

Oh, there are plenty of bits of writing in Mlp that are just great, but off the top of my head, I loved the letter to Celestia at the end of "The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000".

I was totally expecting a sincere letter with a typical lesson learned, but instead we got a sarcastic letter from Applejack:

"Dear princess Celestia, I wanted to share my thoughts with you. [Clears throat] I didn't learn anything! [Laughs] I was right all along! If you take your time to do things the right way, your work will speak for itself. Sure, I could tell you I learned something about how my friends are always there to help me, and I could count on them no matter what, but truth is I knew that already, too."

Because headwear and eye shape are a good guide to determining identity.

The only problem with that being Tirek is the idea that he would then presumably be aware of the 4th pwintest.

He was skulking around the castle, but that doesn't mean he was spying on the ponies. In fact, at this point he was very low in power and vulnerable, so may have been trying to avoid pony contact as much as possible.

quitting the wonderbolts was a HUGE character development for Dash but i also loved it when she admitted to scootaloo that she too was afraid with old pony tales when she was younger. An the line of her saying that if she ever told anypony she'd deny it was awesome you can't have Dash turn completely to mush :)
