Malachi sighed and shook his head. " That's a shame. My condolences. I myself have a few guards in my building and out watching the streets. But I usually can handle myself if anyone tries to take me out. Had about five attempts before we settled here. I took them all out myself. If a leader can't protect himself with his bare hooves then they can't really do the same for others. At least that's what my old man use to say." He took another drink.

This was an odd request, but nothing that wasnt usually done. It was a custom to show around the capital to show off the power of the Empire. Another horse-drawn carriage, bearing two guards and a guide was brought forth for the diplomats. They were firstly driven, as usual, to the west of the city. The area was full of giant factories, employing hundreds of thousands of workers. The sun was almost invisible through the enormous amount of smoke that covered sky. The temperature was a lot higher than in the rest of the city as this was the biggest industrial sector in the west.

"Hmm." He said as he went over to his desk and sat in his chair. "I can't really think of anything else at the moment. Other then what the mares are like in Texano." He smirked.  "Well the way our government works is simple. Me and the for other Dons meet everyday. We each bring something to the table that the other ones lack. But I'm luck to be rather evened out.  We come up with the laws but before we pass them we actually reach out to the citizens to see if they'll be fine with it. Cause we my be the only ones in charge and we pick our own successors, but we actually car for our people and want to make things better for them. In the past we use to just care about making money and take out other families to make even more money.

 

But now we come together and treat out citizens right so they can have leaders they can respect for the right reasons and be proud to fallow us. So we have votes on many things. What would be good to shear, if we should open up to other nations, what should we focus mainly on and what not. And this system seems to work very well. Everyone is happy and taken care of.

 

And we trade many things, food, gems, lumber and other things. But since me and the other Dons own most of the major businesses  we get the intake. But we mostly put it in the treasury while he just get a little bit of the take. Which we're happy with. And as for the privet  businesses owners we have a fair tax rate that everyone seems to not mind. And again most of the money goes right to the  treasury.

 

So it's a pretty well thought out cycle that goes from the counter,  to the register, to the bank, to the treasury. While we just get a bit of the pot.  But it took us a wile to be able to set this up. But as for our main thing we have to trade is man power.

 

With the lack of the resources we have most of us learned to get very good at at farming, building, forging you name it.  And from there these skill got stranger. Normally it would take one pony to build a house in a few months, maybe a year.  But now he can do it twice as fast and in shorter time while staying under budget."

 

He took another drink from his glass. " And we think most would love to pay for such skills. No matter what field it's in."

Blost nods his head in agreement to the some of the statements and respectable decisions the don talks about then says "Well, I'll have to ask my leaders if they want me to look into hiring someone, but I would like to get down to businesse of why I came here which is to deal of resources for bits, if we can find good terms to go on I will set sail bring it forth to the council if they approve, then without a doubt many of our merchants who are not under government control will sail here to set a trade with your merchants, but I to will sail back here to give you the council's words, so do you have some paper?"

Malachi opened his desks drawer and pulled out three pieces of stationery  and placed it on his desk for Blost. Then he grabbed a pen and placed it on top of the paper. "And we'll happily welcome anyone who wishes to do business here. And I got a better idea then having you tire yourself out going back and forth from here." He smiled. "How about I come along and discuss directly with your council and or president. It's been a while since I've been on a trip. Plus I'm a hooves on, face to face kind of stallion."

Blost takes the pen and paper and begins to write a long list of terms for the trade agreement which includes that privateers hired by both navies may not raid trade ships, that force of merchants to relive their trade to officials with out the merchants having criminal intent, and that no illegal items be brought to Texano by traders to sell with criminal intent. "Alright I have written the basics of our treaty, you may change what you dislike about it."

 Malachi took the paper and read over the terms. "Everything seems to be reasonable. We are a nation built on free trade. Though most of the things were use to let be trad weren't really in the confines of the normal law. Like drugs, weapons and whatnot. But now we cut that out to where we just allow weapons. Anything else is bad.

 

And since we still believe in free trade you won't have to worry about taxes on curtain kinds of trade. We only ask that whenever a ship is docked they just have to pay for the space they will be docked at, which means three ships take three places and they work for the same company they have to pay for each of them.

 

Other then that they can set their own prices and buy whatever they wish. "

"We can work with those terms, our only request for our ports is that the ships pays for the standered docking fee and they pay for the repair of the ship should they wish, now if you agree to this we will shake hooves and set sail to Texano tomorrow once we land in Texano it will be a day's ride to the capital, where you can meet our president and some of the council."

Malachi made a few notes himself to have them filed later. "That sounds very fair." He red over his notes a few times and nods before taking another drink. "Alright, I think we're at an agreement." He wrote an agreement contract that had everything they discussed. At the bottom he put his signature. He then flipped the paper around for Blost to sigh. " Once ya sign this everything will be set. " He smiled and hold out a hoof ready for Blost to shake.

"Well now that's over I will go buy myself a meal to take back to the ship, I will have the crew offload your gift, and I'll see you in the morning to sail off to Texano, fair well." as the duke read through the manual, Cryilla walked in from being off her shift to see what he was doing, 

 

meanwhile Roxin, the science and technology adviser, was working with Jept, the archaeological adviser, to decipher the blueprint

 

"im not a scientist, I dont anything about your work, i swear youre so smart, and yet your so stupid at the same time" jept said while shaking his head.  Roxin sighed "Look, i get the gist of it i understand the measurements,, but im just not sure what it is or what it does, and you and Klux know hieroglyphics, So treat this like its one of those"  Jept sighed "fine,.." and began studying the document

After studying over hald=f of the manual and writing half of the 'New Version' the dukes eyes strted to close, he was holding his head up with his left hoof and his eyes were slowly starting to lose the fight against sleep. He noticed some movement in the doorway and loked up to see her. He slightly jumped, the hoof slipping from under his head, leting it plumet towards the desk. As he regained 'awake-ness' he jumped,

 

"Oh.... hello there... i .... was not sleeping..."

Cryillia took a step back "O-of course!" she then took a standing position near the doorway unsure if she did anything wrong or not

 

Jept examined the blue print "Well, from what i can tell...something goes in there" pointing at the blueprint "And thats fire, so a fire, and above that a tank of water, above the water looks like smoke, which does something with that mechanism, but i cant tell how it works" 

 

Roxin looked it over "Hmmm...that smoke is steam, its what happens when you heat water to a certain point, but the steam must be used to run the mechanism, but I dont know how exactly or how the mechanism moves or what it does"

"Oh, really, good..." the earth pony said and noded towards the unicorn, the unicorn signaled someone behind the door. A couple of ponies came in pulling carts of batteries, machinery, chemicals and a lot of technological wizzles.

"I am Albert, this is Henry, sent in by His Majesty. We are here to help you with the.... research and development."

Roxin looked at all the stuff coming into his room "ah excellent, Jept you may leave now, im sure theres some old things that you need to look at" Jept rolled his eyes "right..." and left, Roxin  walked up to the unicorn and the earth pony "Albert and Henry...such exotic names, anyway here help me decipher this" he pointed at the blue print "I have determined that is uses steam to function, however im not sure how it uses steam and what it does afterwards"

"Oh you see," the earthpony stepped up, "these are the the boiler, safety valve, cylinder, steam reservoir and pistons. A steam engine needs steam to get it going. Coal from a coal tender is fed into the firebox where it is burnt at a temperature of 1400 degree C. This heat is used to turn water, also stored in the tender, into high pressure steam.

This high-pressure steam energy is made to pass from the boiler to the steam reservoir through steam pipes. A slide valve in the piston opens and shuts two steam ports, alternately. This ensures that the steam passes through alternate ports. When the steam enters the slide valve, it pushes some of the pistons, whiole the other ones retract, then when the pisotns reach their maximum reach they close, meaning the steam will push in the other set of pistons, pushing them and retracting the others, from there its justa a matter of how to harness this energy to move something from the size of a train to a massive factory.
