"Us, we and ours"

So, yesterday night I was rambling around in my thoughts. I looked around and saw one drawing of a king I made some years ago and then realized something.

If my mind wasn't betraying me, a few years ago I learnt that the christian kings of the Middle Ages used "us", "our" and "we" to address themselves, the reason for this was that what they really meant was "God and I", since they had the 'divine right' to be kings.

If Luna does the same thing, she's talking on her's and Celestia's behalf or there's actually a divine entity similar to God in Equestria?

Of course it may just be a reference to Nightmare Moon, but it would be very odd if Luna talked constantly making reference to the evil spirit, especially after all she's been through.

Surely they just made her talk like that because it was very fitting, but it would be great if they could clarify this to us.

Although that's how it arose, by the time of, say, Queen Victoria, it was simply a convention. I don't think Queen Victoria believed she was speaking on behalf of God every time she used the "royal we".

That said, Equestria is culturally separate from our world, so even if a similar convention arose there, it may have been for a different reason. It might be similar to the T-V distinction, where the plural is used to simply indicate respect.

You may be right, but the custom was still originated by the belief in a divine source.

As I said, they surely just made her talk that way because it sounded fitting. But it still kinda bothers me.
