Hey.

Remember when NJPW's biggest star left the company?

Well it's happened again.

Tetsuya Naito will be parting ways with NJPW on May 4th. The founder of LIJ and the man who lived and breathed NJPW could not reach a new deal. His 3rd ever hire in LIJ, the masked BUSHI, will also be leaving, freeing up a spot in BotSJ. After two defections, one ousting and now two departures, LIJ will only have four members in Hiromu, Shingo, Tsuji and TitAn, whenever he isn't in Mexico. Will the ungovernable ones even survive? 

And that's not all the departing news. Olympic powerhouse grappler, Jeff Cobb, will also be leaving, vacating the tag belts he won from Naito & Hiromu. Rumor has it he's WWE (and Bloodline) bound.

If I had a nickel for every time WWE snatched an NJPW champion, I'd have three nickels.

Was Wrestlemania 41 great? Overall, no. But it wasn't as bad as people make it out to be.

My favorite match of the weekend was easily Jey Uso beating Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship.  

Also, Raw after Mania was nuts. Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria dropped the titles, and Becky Lynch turned heel. 

Rusev is also back in the WWE as well.

And some big changes have happened over NJPW over the last month, particularly at this past weekend's two night Dontaku show, feeling very much like the end of an era.

• Jeff Cobb, the Olympic suplex machine, has left united empire for WWE. And with it, his world title match and tag team championship, both were claimed by partner, Callum Newman, who became the youngest ever champion in NJPW and the youngest ever world title challenger to Hirooki Goto in a valiant effort on Night II. Goto will defend at this weekends Resurgence PPV from So Cal against the man he took the belt from, ZSJ. The winner facing Shingo Takagi at Dominion next month, a man without a country, but more on that later. 
• Hiroshi Tanahashi marches along his retirement tour, facing Zack Sabre jr. one last time, a match I got to see in person back at MSG. ZSJ pinned Tana after a spinning Michinoku Driver, ending their rivalry with a score of 7-7. 
• In Night I's main event, the second ever NJPW war games took place to conclude the Bullet Club Civil War. The lying, cheating, backstabbing House of Torture vs. the violent, militant, fanatical War Dogs. Losers leave the BC. War Dogs repeated the feat after Gabe Kidd gave former LA dojo mate Ren Narita a top rope piledriver through a barbed wire table. Though it looks like the respective leaders of David Finlay and Evil will settle things once and for all in a dog collar match. 
• Tetsuya Naito & BUSHI have now departed NJPW. LIJ's leader and it's longest tenured member wrestled their final match alongside Hiromu & Shingo. After newest member Yota Tsuji successfully defended the Global title against rival Yuya Uemura in a showcase of the next generation, all of LIJ made one final pose, the torch being passed and the final announcement being made by Tsuji, marking the end of New Japan's most popular band of anti-heroes, in one of the rare times where a sub-group of a faction, the original Los Ignobernables in Mexico, was outshined and outlived by it's Japanese chapter. 
• Best of the Super Juniors also starts this weekend, with BUSHI being replaced by new BC member Robbie X and now Ex-LIJ member and new CMLL Universal championship tournament winner, TitAN, being revealed as the mystery final man.

Is Alberto Del Rio returning to WWE again  because of this or not? I keep seeing different things.

Doubtful. He's only a WWE employee on a technicality. All WWE did was convert all AAA contracts into WWE ones. Odds are he stays in Mexico until the contract is up and he is let go.

Busy day in the wrestling world this weekend. 

Today is NJPW: Resurgence in Ontario, CA. Featuring Mercedes Mone defending the STRONG Women's title against AZM & Mina Shirakawa and Hirooki GOto defendign the IWGP WHC against the man he took it from, Zack Sabre Jr. 

 

 

But that's not the only NJPW action, tomorrow is the start of Best of the Super Juniors! And if prior years are anything to go by, the first night will be free!

 

And it ain't just NJPW action either. As tomorrow will also be the 3rd show for the revived Maple Leaf Pro, now bumping up its venue to the historic Toronto wrestling venue FKA The Maple Leaf Gardens. I dunno. I got a feeling folks here will dig this.
