gaming Does anyone else enjoy watching tool-assisted videos?

First off, I love watching tool-assisted playthroughs of video games. I think its amazing what can be done in a game when you slow it down, even to frame-by-frame speed, just to play it perfectly. There's not much else I can say other than I was wondering if others enjoyed them as well. Also, here are some of my favorites:

If you don't understand what "tool-assisted" refers to I can explain it to you in another comment, or you can Google "tool-assisted speedrun" and you'll see what I mean.

I love them so much! Seeing how fast it's possible to beat a game...it's just fascinating to watch.

Also a good learning experience. Seeing shortcuts and optimizations that you never knew about before.

What's amazing is that when I try to perform some of the things I see in the videos, I realize how hard they actually are. :o

While I can understand the appeal of these sort of videos, I personally don't get much enjoyment out of them. I am more fascinated by what is ACTUALLY possible within the normal gameplay. Things like discovering natural glitches which allow you to bypass certain points in the game or completely sequence-break it entirely. Pixel perfection, lightning fast reflexes, rote memorization of each screen: these are the sort of things I am impressed by and represent the reasons I enjoy watching more traditional speed runs.

Of course, that doesn't mean some of the things one can do with "tools" aren't amazing in their own right.  :adorkable: But check out this example of completely un-tool-assisted mastery. It's a very entertaining display.
