Today's solar eclipse above Europe

Looks like Princess Luna still has some unsolved issues with her sister Celestia ;) Today she made her a prank by moving the Moon right over the face of the Sun to eclipse it for an entire hour. This phenomenon could be seen from northern parts of Europe: 100% solar eclipse could be seen from the island of Svalbard and Iceland, around 80% from Sweden and Scotland, and around 75% from UK, Poland, Germany etc.

I made a couple of photos. They're not very good quality, and a bit blurred, but you can pretty much see the eclipse all well. I even made a short animated sequence out of them. Pictures attached ;)

and some brighter ones (shot through a single layer of a diskette instead of two):

The other, weaker inverted copy of the crescent is just an artifact of the lens (the lens flare), it was not visible in the sky ;)

Here's a link to the whole gallery:

Has anyone of you observed it too? Or perhaps made some nice photos?

Edit: Yay! I'm a phoenix now! :D What a better opportunity to become a phoenix than at the day of the solar eclipse? ;)

I thought it was a bit anti-climatic to be honest. Didn't even get the jewel of light, never mind seeing the corona. But I guess it was only about 80% coverage.

Yeah, to see a total eclipse, one needs to be at the right place and time. People usually travel to distant places to see a total eclipse (if one can afford it, that is). It's not always easy: one could get hurt by a polar bear ;)

The nearest total eclipse seen from where I live will be no sooner than in 2079! I'll probably not be alive anymore, unless I figure out how to transfer my consciousness into a body of a robot or get myself hibernated ;J But the one I saw today, I'd not say it was "anti-climactic": sure, it was not a total eclipse, but still the best eclipse I've seen in my entire life (and I've seen a couple of them).

It's the first time I've seen one. I did feel the severe drop in temperature, the birds all stopped singing, everything went silent and it went a fair amount darker. But the next total solar eclipse here will be about 2090.

Yeah, when I was watching it from my garden, I saw several groups of people walking nearby and passing me, and none of them seemed to be aware what is just happening right above their heads. Even the look of me standing there and staring to the Sun with a weird-looking hand-made sunglasses didn't seem to raise their curiosity. I bet they'll notice that something is going on only if it suddenly became dark ;P I said to my friend today: "OK, the solar eclipse is over, but the eclipse of people's minds is not over yet..."

There were loads of warnings on the radio to not look at this sun.
When I went outside, there was a literal crowd of people standing there staring at it xD
