gaming Dark Souls lore and NG+

Okay, so I literally just beat Dark Souls for the first time. And I must say, I think it is the greatest game I have ever played by far. But that aside, I know i didn't get anywhere near to finding everything, exploring everywhere, and soaking up as much lore as i can.

I LOVE lore. Doesn't matter if its a game, book, movie, you name it and I want to know everything about it. That being said, I want to learn as much as possible about dark souls lore, and explore and find everything (if that's even possible) but I want to do so without looking online as much as possible.

So my question is, what is the est way to discover things in game, starting a totally new game file? or go new game plus? How much changes in new game plus? does everything totally reset, meaning any unique items i might have accidentally feed to frampt would re appear in their place? or are they gone for good? Any light you can shed on how to do this spoiler free (meaning lore spoilers) would be awesome, thanks.

NG+ resets everything so you can get back any unique items you fed to Frampt. I would suggest you defeat the Four Kings before you go to Anor Londo and get the Lordvessel.

What console do you play on? Or do you play on PC?

Most, if not all, of the lore in the Souls games is found through item descriptions. If you want more lore you need to find more items and equipment. Scour Lordran, kill things for drop rates (gather humanity to raise your Item Find stat) and pay attention to loot locations.

You don't need to be on NG+ to do it. The only thing NG+ does is give every enemy and boss added stats while you keep your endgame ones along with your equipment. Dark Souls II is the first one to actually change things in NG+ so if you get around to that (it's by far the better game, by the way ;) ) save your lore quest for that game's NG+.

When you start NG+ your entire inventory and stats will carry over except for story-specific ones like the Lordvessel and the Rite of Kindling. Maybe a few others. I think loot resets. All one-time enemies like the Black Knights will reset as well as any NPCs and phantoms you killed in your first run.

On the note of lore: While most of it is in item descriptions there are some subtle things you will have to really dig deep to find. There won't be a strict explanation of them and a lot can go over your head such as the fate of certain people.

When you're stuck or feel satisfied with what you've found I would recommend looking up VaatiVidya on Youtube. He does a lot of Dark Souls videos from lore (much of which I wouldn't even have begun to figure out on my own) as well as a series of videos called "top fifty things you didn't know about Dark Souls" which covers things from mechanics to easter eggs that you may not have figured out from playing the game.

He's done a few for Demon's Souls and Dark Souls II but for the time being the bulk of his videos are for Dark Souls 1.

I would suggest you defeat the Four Kings before you go to Anor Londo and get the Lordvessel.

Yeah this is one thing you definitely missed on your first playthrough. It actually leads to a covenant that you will miss entirely if you go with Frampt to light the Lordvessel. I suggest at the very least using this list of covenants to find ones you might have missed. The one Taviscratch is describing is very missable and not easy to find at all unless you make a habit of sequence breaking.

Dark Souls is a game full of hidden stuff. That website I linked to will help you find things if you need help. It's very in-depth about every little thing in the game. Watch out, though, as it can spoil lore for you too. Use it wisely and carefully.

Just a warning about digging into the lore. If you do, prepare to cry.

The feels train can not be stopped.

In this world, is the destiny of mankind controlled by some transcendental entity or law? Is it like the hand of God, hovering above? At least it is true, that man has no control... Even over his own will.

Well, I mean you can save the brosef of onions. Logan... Yeah that was bad. Same with Anastasia

Don't hate me, but Tarkus's death was ironically... Funny.

True about Tarkus, kind of tragic but full of black humour. I have never managed to save Siegmeyer as he always gets eaten instantly :eww:

Oh yeah, no doubt Tarkus failed like a drunk man trying to prove he's not drunk with a 1.3 alcohol level, but the story of his quest is great.

But let's try not to spoil too much for Galaxy. They've got a lot to look forward to in their next run. ;)

I guess you could say that... Siegmeyer... Found himself in quite a pickle.

You talking about

the part where he's contemplating how to go about fighting those funnelmouth creatures in Lost Izalith and if he finishes his dialog he jumps down there to die? You can just kill those things yourself without finishing his dialog and he'll never jump down there, if I recall. Or his jump will be delayed so you have time to murderface them in the groin. Literally.

Whoops, sorry. Meant to quote this post. <.< >.>

Yeah that's the one. Alternatively, if you are fast enough, you can kill them before his health gets to half, and the ending of that arc is happy :P

Almost happy.

Pretty sure either he or his daughter dies no matter what you do but I've never personally finished this quest so I can't say for sure. Mostly know it from the Prepare To Cry series on VaatiVidya's channel.

It's really hard to pull off from what I've heard. Never done it either. Just looked into

It.

Actually, I tried this and he gets all mopey because he couldn't fight them himself and prove to you that he is a capable warrior. I never got him and Sieglinde together which is a shame

Fire Tempest is the easiest way of doing it, I've heard.
