I know absolutely NOTHING about animation! yay!

Okay, say there's someone (me) who has absolutely no idea about animation, including how to do it, and the program to do it on, and say this person (me) didn't have money to buy any sort of program. Basically, I only want to try animation out and see what it's like, and maybe do a few things for fun, but probably not post them anywhere.

Go to autodesk.org I think, it may be .edu or .com

 

It's been so long since I've gone there, but theres a downloads section. Go there and look for Maya 2012 (not sure if it's still called that may be 2014) Maya is the program that is more user friendly as well as the most popular program so easier to find how to videos.

 

The program you'll be able to download a student version for free and use it for nothing profitable.

If you're new to animation you may want to start simple then gradually use more complex resources and techniques. When I first started animating, I used Pencil http://www.pencil2d.org/   It is a FREE software   If you'd like a good commercial animation program in the future, I'd recommend Adobe Flash CC or Toon Boom (you can pick the version you want) as these programs are what many professionals use.

I never really learned model creation, mainly because my teacher detested it so we focused on animation. I was top in class for 3d animation.

 

I looked at 2d on my own and was "no, i'll stick to 3d and my axis rotations thank you very much"
