melody5697 195 April 18, 2015 Share April 18, 2015 I've seen tons of people say they don't have electricity in My Little Pony. Why do people keep saying that? I've seen light switches tons of times. And remember when Pinkie was interrogating Spike in "Party of One"? She had an electric lamp! And in "Testing Testing 1, 2, 3", Rainbow Dash asked if she could just watch the History of the Wonderbolts movie. Therefore they must have TV (even though I can't think of a time when they've actually shown one). Why do people keep saying there's no electricity? Why is part of what I typed highlighted in light gray...

RarityFan01 2,444 April 19, 2015 Share April 19, 2015 Equestria isn't as obsessed with electricity and technology as we are, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. They aren't living in the age of technology. By the way, when figuring out when MLP takes place, a lot of bronies use technology from our world. Equestria is in a different world. They get along just fine without the constant technology. 1 Rarity Fan Club My Ponysona My Drawing of Rarity
Firedog 320 April 19, 2015 Share April 19, 2015 I think it isn't that they don't use technology, I think its that their idea of technology probably doesn't involve electricity. Even though they do have electricity, its not what their technology is about. Unicorns spells are quite frequently used form of technology in their world. You see spells cast all the time in the show for small problems and larger ones. Their are also factories, like the rainbow factory. With unicorns, pegasus, and earth ponies their really isn't much need for electrical technological advances, so I think they focus their technology on spells, factory, ect. Things that are done by the ponies themselves. Some really interesting technology we have seen like the Super Cider Squeezy 6000, used basic unicorn magic where it took little effort for them to make barrels of cider, though not entirely sure if it used any electricity. 1 Pony NEWS YouTube Channel
Fluttershutter 2,634 April 19, 2015 Share April 19, 2015 They have electricity but I don't believe they have electronics. And Ponyville's a rural town so it's probably not all wired up yet. And the outlying famrs definitely aren't. We also don't know how much they use regular methods to generate electricity and how much they just use magic. If the average unicorn can power their lights without much effort it's probably just easier to live off the grid.
The Awesome One 1,315 April 19, 2015 Share April 19, 2015 They have electricity but they use it on a very small scale. Yes they need street lights and to supply electricity to homes for their lighting and small electrical appliances as well but overall these ponies are not dependent on electricity as all. The unicorns and pegasi can easily do without it and the Earth ponies don't have that much of a hard time either.
dekutree64 713 April 20, 2015 Share April 20, 2015 I stand by my post in the previous electricity thread, that their transmission system is actually more advanced than ours, so they don't need wires strung all over to use power from the hydro plant shown in Mare Do Well. They don't seem to have TV, but they do have arcade machines... though I don't think we've ever actually seen the screen on one, so it's possible that it's just a mechanical game with similar looking controls to our computerized ones. Rainbow's reference to a movie likely meant a film projector, rather than TV. Like the one in Hurricane Fluttershy.
