"Actually, no, it's none of that, although i'm sure the Society would be glad to hear some of your more interesting theories at another time..."

The stallion shuffled, not quite sure how to go through this procedure delicately. Deciding that there was no way, he put it the best he could.

"We actually came here because we're looking for somepony. We've been asking around, and all signs seem to point to you. With that in mind, i'll be blunt: you wouldn't happen to know where "Ms. Mary," is would you?"

Wilhelm was inwardly shocked, but didn't show it. Obviously, he was looking for Annette, but no way in Tartarus was he giving her up to this stallion, especially if some of the horror stories he had heard from her were true. He pretended to think about it while inwardly going over responses, which happened to range from "Oh, her? Right at the end of a long jump off a short pier, which I invite you to perform" to "I'm afraid I'm not sure whom you are talking about." He decided on this last option, and said as politely as possible "I'm truly not sure who you're talking about, Doctor. Perhaps you should ask the registration desk?" Inwardly, he was banking that Annette registered under her proper name and not this Mary thing.

Nightmare Moon stepped back a ways, beginning her story. She did not believe this mortal understood her for second, but at least somepony for once was actually willing to hear the tale. It was almost a shame he would have to disappear.

"I was never meant to be." Nightmare Moon began. "And originally, I did not exist at all; the best I could be described as was a collection of non-sentient feelings and thoughts in the back of Luna's mind. That was, until things began to change."

"Technically, my birth happened on the day of Luna's first betrayal. Someone she trusted well beyond reason broke her heart and crushed her beyond measure, and she could not handle it. So, she pushed those thoughts and feelings away, sealing them in a vessel in the back of her mind so she would not have to deal with them. I was that vessel."

"Some time later, she was hurt again, and she did the same. And again. And again. She unceasingly pushed her dark thoughts away, and I was the one to receive them. Her anger, rage, and sorrow were force fed into me time and time again, though she believed she was hurting no one. She obviously did not forsee how dangerous the mind of an alicorn can be."

"One day, I obtained enough strength to talk to her, and make my presence known. But she was still young, and foolish; her unfortunate response was to push me even deeper into her mind, sealing off everything but just the touch of my essence on her mind. It is the "we" that she often speaks of, but that is aside the point."

"She continued to use me as a receptacle of her hatred, only now she found out that, as a separate, conscious body, I could also be used as a weapon. I became Nightmare, her personal tool of revenge, striking fear into the hearts of any who would dare cross her. But this came with no benefit to me; as soon as she was finished, I was once again chained up like a dog, left to rot until the next time she needed me."

"Naturally, there came a time when she gave away too much of her energy, made me too powerful. I bided my time until the right opportunity; then, in a state of weakness, I snapped my chains, seizing control of her mind. This was the day of eternal night."

"But Celestia saw through it, and she banished, sending a blow directly into my mind that should have killed me. But Luna would not let me go. Instead, unbelievably, she fed me a thousand years of sorrow and misery, re-kindling my existence like Equestria's blackest fire."

"Come her punishments end, I was still not at my full strength. The foolish mare still decided to push me out, however, using me as tool for revenge in the battle with her sister. It did not go well, as I was once again struck by the elements. This time, however, my weakened state allowed the elements to cleave a rift between us, nearly severing me from her. I connected to her mind and powers by only a sliver. I will never be as strong as I used to be." she lamented.

"But, in a surprising exchange, Luna was now unable to call on me, nor able to force her unwanted problems on me. For the first time since I was born, finally i'd been allowed to finally rest, no longer forced into being a receptacle of her torment. Until today, that is, when an enormous jolt in her emotions somehow managed to reach me even through that sliver and wake me up. That jolt was you..."

She opened her eyes, staring into Night Tracer's; they were colder than the depths of her heart.

"And that is why you must leave."

-------

Rarity paused in her work; in the back room, a large machine refined a particularly small gemstone that pulsed with a vaiety lights, similar to the one around her neck, though it only pulsed blue. Moving from the back room to the front, she opened the door.

"Welcome, Ice Blizzard! Please, come inside," she said quickly, motioning him inside. "Sorry for the clutter," she said, pointing out the array of fabrics and gemstones in various places around the shop. "I was just getting a bit of personal work done when you..."

She noticed the second member of the group that had walked in, and her eyes lit up briefly, a look that had Sunny Daze shuffle a little.

"Oh, Ice Blizzard, who is that adorable little filly?"

-------

@Orion Caelum

The stallion looked at him curiously, then continued.

"Are you sure? Perhaps she might be going by her last name, Anette. She's a little shorter than I am with freckles and a curly mane. She also carries four remarkable dolls with her at all times, ones that seem just as living as you and I. The society's been searching for her for years, and we think she might be here. Do you know anypony by that description?"

@,

Blizzard almost squeed with excitement when he saw Rarity. But he remembered to play it cool as he walked inside, "Uh..aahem. This is Sunny Daze. She came to visit me in the hospital when I lost to Lektra. I was crushed by one of those giant metallic things like the one you saw earlier. Haha. Which reminds me, Rarity I believe we fight next right?" he said while stille try to fix his mane nervously.

The stallion nervously backed up as the door opened, but he tired to appear as steady as he could. He stuck the map into the large pack he was wearing and straightened his suit before addressing Wilhelm.

"Good evening, professor. My name is Dr.Mind, head of the Equestrian Society of Magical Advancement and Procurement. Do you have time to answer a question?"

-------

The alicorn sighed while the pegasus all but lost his mind at the sight of her, It was too common a reaction among mortals. She caught the intent in his words however, and her eyes narrowed.

"You asked who I am? Perhaps this would open your eyes."

Her horn glowed, and inky black shadows surged around her, creeping up her skin. At key points on her body, they changed shape, form and color, becoming exquisite blue battle armor.

"I am the darkness in Luna's heart brought to life. The bringer of eternal night. My last battle with Solaris Invictus terrified ponies for centuries and shook Equestria to its very core. I am Nightmare Moon, the scourge of ponies everywhere... and I am tired," she finished, with a deep, heavy sigh. The armor dissipated with a flash.

---------

"A small mare with a plucky attitude and an accent funnier n' mine, goes by the name of Tyra. There was also this yellow guy, Electron...Electron something or other. He's the one that wrecked my bar on the inside; I reckon your friend just saw fit to make sure the outside matched the inside."

She stopped for a second.

"I apologize, I didn't mean to make a joke out of all of this. It's just you gotta learn to laugh at life sometimes. Otherwise... ya know," she said with a quick shrug, before going back to her mopping.

-------

"Let's see..." she began as she and Ice Blizzard spun around. "I want to go..."

Celestia suddenly shivered violently. She looked around in confusion, before turning back to Ice Blizzard.

"Yeah, let's go see Rarity." she responded, voice a lot flatter than before. While they moved, she looked around nervously.

Just for a second, what she thought she had felt... it couldn't be...?

Kazas took a drink of the water, and responded with a cheery smile.

" Oh, it isn't a bother at all. Humor is a great way to cope with stress! Besides, Lorec is from a place called Sadauris. In that place, destruction of property is actually cheered for. Shows how dominant and powerful the culprit is. But then again, most of them live by a blood code. If you have a problem with someone in Saduaris, their courts will only intervene so much before they decide to put plantiff and defendent in a pit and say ' FIGHT! '. Let's just say that Lorec has won all of his legal disputes thus far... oh look at me, getting carried away again! I apologize! You see, other cultures interest me-"

" Great Commander. "

Kazas's smile contorted immediately to a serious glare, aimed downward as he lowered his head. Behind him, there was a pony who had seemingly came out of nowhere. He was a violet Earth Pony, with a black hood and cowl masking his features, along with black combat leathers covering most of his body. A bandoleer across his chest sported five throwing knives. To his left flank, a dagger, and to his right, hanging from a purple sash wrapped around his waist, a chained sickle, made of metal that was as dark as nightmare moon's coat. Vorrin.

Kazas spoke, not looking in his direction, still looking downward.

" what did you find, Vorrin?"

The shrouded pony replied, voice slightly muffled by the cowl's mask.

" The boy is alright, and was last seen at the arena. He currently is among friends and/or in plain sight. However, on my way here, I detected no sign of the grey mare. Her whereabouts are unknown to me. Also, recent intel seems to point that Lorec may soon be fighting in the arena against one Tyra Shatterhoof in what is being described as a ' honor duel '. Kazas... I know you wish to find the mare, but Lorec is our friend. And you know what he promised when he...."

Kazas answered.

" found the perfect match. I know very well. Then it is decided. Gather the other keepers and 400 of the acolytes. Make sure Syuren brings Sifana. We will be showing our unconditional support for both Lorec and his opponent. Have them gather near the entrance. Be sure to inform Alrahm first, as he will wish to take notes, along with being the slowest one there. Ask all acolytes to spread the word, so that the possibility of all 2000 arriving to cheer our friend on increases. But remember, have 400 outside of the arena entrance, in coat-of-arms position. Preferably, Lorec's unit."

The cloaked pony answered.

" It will be done. "

And just like that, Vorrin trotted out of the establishment to spread the word and prepare for the event. Kazas, looking up at Applejack, resumed smiling.

" Tyra, huh? Small world after all. Makes sense that he would challenge a drinking buddy to a fight, but he only does that when they can match him... interesting..."

Taking another drink of the water, he gently placed the glass down on the bar.

In this world, is the destiny of mankind controlled by some transcendental entity or law? Is it like the hand of God, hovering above? At least it is true, that man has no control... Even over his own will.

Now, I'm afraid I won't be any more help to you; if you wish, you can ask around, see if anypony else has seen her. As for me, I never have, and I doubt I will, to my eternal detriment." Wilhelm shrugged. "I'll be getting back to my work now, but please, if you do find her, forward your results to my home address. I'd be interested to see them." With that, Wilhelm stepped back inside and shut the door firmly.

zenru POV

zenru bowed as she left, and decided to stay here, and watch the lake.

so peaceful...

(cue intensely deep thoughts for the rest of the night, or at least someone happens to walk past the lake or something)

(i shall include ronin.)

ronin POV

he was wandering around, when he decided to put up flyers.

the flyers read

"im new to the arena. and im looking for a fight. dont accept this challenge if you dont have experience, skill, and luck on your side. you'll need it if you do accept this."

smiling, he put them up in almost every building.

caliber POV

he froze a bit when she said 'im fighting the champion'. "oh my god, thats just too rich..." he said, starting to laugh. "welp, your lookin' at the current champion, as a matter of fact!"

"hm?" his attention was dragged to the machine lektra claimed 'could eat his sword'.

"by 'eat' do you mean just store it in a different place, or do you mean that as in 'crunch, bend, and break it up'?" he asked. "cause iv met nothing that can bend my sword more then a couple centimeters, let alone break it."

he kept looking around, making sure his cape didnt catch onto anything. "this is stuff i have no experience in." he said cheerfully, "i have no idea what these are!"

"It's nice to meet you, Sunny Daze," she responded, looking down at her. She turned back to resume speaking Ice Blizzard

So you were the one caught in that giant explosion, I take it. That sounds absolutely horrid, but it seems you made it out alright, thank goodness" she replied with a gasp.

"Well, it looks like you're alright now, thank goodness." she said, looking him over. "You are right, though; it appears our match is next. Shall we do this now? I'm merely working on a personal project; I can put it on hold for a while."

-------

@Orion Caelum

Dr.Mind jumped back, missing being hit in the face by the swinging door by a matter of inches. He stopped, picking up the map that had somehow fell out of his pack once again.

"Okay, let us know if you see anything..." he said to himself. He began to walk away, though with more determination than anypony would have thought considering the situation. He knew she was here, Professor Wilhelm's reaction all but confirmed it. That meant he would find her, it was only just a matter of time...

---------

"So i'm guessing this Lorec buddy is a pretty big deal, then," Applejack said. She began to resume mopping the floor, having sat passively by during the conversation.

"Is he some kind of prince or something? I know it's none of my business, but all that stuff sounds like a pretty big deal for a simple arena skirmish. I didn't offend anyone important, did I?"

Blizzard listened to what Rarity said, "Uh-huh. And what's interesting is that I was crushed by BOTH the one you saw, AND the one in my last fight. But I'm all good now, I bounced back."

He gulped when he heard her say that about their fight, "I..guess..." "No wussin' dude come on!!" "Let's do this! But don't forget that we agreed to go out for milkshakes if I win. Hehe... after you milady." he said as he walked and held the door open for her.

He turned to Sunny, "Uh, Sunny, our fight is next. You might wanna get a nice seat in the stands to watch us...?" he said with body language that implied, 'It's our fight next princess! Go announce us in!'

Wilhelm sighed, massaging his temples with a hoof. That stallion likely knew that Annette was there somewhere, and his reaction was likely enough to convince him of that, despite Wilhelm's protestations to the contrary. Wilhelm shrugged faintly, as if he knew that there wasn't anything he could do, and, picking up the abandoned forceps, slotted the last crystal into the main prong frame. A shower of magical sparks as the enchantments on the crystal linked with the ones on the collection rods flew, and Wilhelm jumped out of the way before any of them landed on him. Satisfied, he looked the energy repeater rifle over again, making sure everything was fine.

He picked it up, testing its weight, and as he did, he saw the supposedly handy magical waveform frequency device. Vaguely disgusted, Wilhelm began to put it back down again, intending it to be finished before its first test (the collection rods had been finished first, and had been storing enough energy for three 'clips' worth of firing over the past week), when he reconsidered. He had seen Lektra in combat, and if he recalled correctly, she had opened up a shop nearly next door. The spark of annoyance was quickly snuffed out as he slung the repeater over his back, carefully adjusting it so that it wouldn't bump against his flank too much and perhaps decalibrate the device. His issues with the frequency device, perhaps, weren't in his incomplete knowledge; it was simply that he didn't have the luck to be born a unicorn.

Lucky for him that Lektra was.

Opening his door again and checking for the intrusive Doctor, Wilhelm edged out and shut the door behind him, locking all four locks with different keycodes for each one. Adjusting the rifle a bit more, Wilhelm trotted a few meters from his to Lektra's door and knocked. "Hello? Miss Bolt?"

I winked at that point.

she winked. several red alarms blared in his head, while two green ones came alive, too. he decided it was nothing.

then she bent it, and caliber stared at his sword.

wow, he really wasn't that special here, huh? needless to say, he was glad she hadn't crushed the hilt of it. opening the small pocket in the handle, he emptied out his sword's pocket, and looked at the object in his hoof.

while most ponies might think he simply loves his sword too much to part with it, in reality, he treasures his sword almost for the sole reason he hides his most treasured item in it's hilt.

content it was unbroken, he put it back into his sword, and looked back at lektra. "well, which is it? cause i was thinking about training later on today." he grinned sheepishly as he walked up to her. "and could ya bend it back?"

Wilhelm raised an eyebrow at the slogan, but didn't comment. "I'm Wilhelm de Winter, another fighter in the arena, and, coincidentally, Astronomer of the Realm. You may have heard of me?" When no response was forthcoming, Wilhelm inwardly sighed and said "Why I've come to you is for this." Here, he carefully hoofed over the repeater rifle, being careful not to touch the center prong yet until he could get it properly magically sealed together. "I need two things; one, I need the metal there to be sealed over the crystals in the form of heat vents but a solid covering everywhere else on the prong, and I need a little help with this." Wilhelm gestured to the defunct analyzer and hit a button near the trigger of the repeater.

The analyzer flickered on, but its readings were wildly inaccurate, and varied not only from place to place, but second to second by sometimes several hundred thousand hertz. "This is intended to measure the frequency of a magical wave propagating through the subfield mana ether, but while it is able to read the ether, it can't do it accurately, and so I came to you for it to be properly enchanted so that it can read frequencies accurately. Currently, it can only detect whether there's a spell near it or just normal Equestrian atmosphere, but I need exact numbers for the second mode of the device which you are currently holding." Wilhelm reached over and shut off the analyzer before it broke further. "How much would that cost? Also, please don't point it at anything important that you want alive and/or whole."

"Oh! Right!" Sunny Daze made a dash for the door before exiting. Rarity watched her go before turning to Ice Blizzard.

"Well, I think we should be off then too."

...

"Attention ponies!" The cheery voice of Princess Celestia announced. The next upcoming match Between Rarity and Ice Blizzard will now begin! Location: Diamond Dog Mine: Begin!

Rarity walked into the large, spacious cave, and shivered a little, adjusting the backpack draped over her for warmth. It was not the best of times here...

Still, she thought, glancing down at the blue crystal necklace shining beautifully around her neck, there wasn't a better place for a fight. Even ladies had to get dirty sometimes.

"Are you ready, Ice Blizzard?"

Blizzard was a little bit hesitant as he entered the arena. He didn't want to hurt his crush, but he also didn't want to hurt his chance of going out with her. "Oh man. This is it. I really don't wanna hurt that pretty face of hers. Grr..I doubt that she'll hate me if I hurt her. This is a fight after all. No wussin' out let's do it!"

After a moment of mind clearing, Blizzard activated his Maverick style, tightened his scarf around his neck for warmth and said, "I'm ready, let's begin..." he got into his thinking pose to plan the best counter, "Ladies first?" he said smugly.

"Certainly," Rarity replied. From out of her pack, she pulled out five gems, each of them a little smaller than the bottom of her hoof, and each of them crafted out of a different color gemstone. They rotated around her in a circle while she moved slowly to the right, seemingly checking for something.

"Draw!" she shouted suddenly. Her necklace glowed like an ocean blue lantern as she sent the ruby racing forward toward Ice Blizzard. As it neared him, it exploded violently in a release of energy, though it itself was not destroyed in the blast.

Blizzard saw the ruby, and quickly reacted. As soon as the explosion occured, he put up his ice shield to take less damage. He was only thrown back by a few feet. "Nice! But take this!" From there, he used one of his counterattacks and sent a flurry of ice shards towrds Rarity that were tiny but sharp. He had never seen anything like Rarity's move before, "Amazing. I didn't know she could do that!"

Wow a compartment in the hilt. Interesting. I turned to Caliber while I waited for the visitor to respond. "You mean you'd still train with me knowing we would be basically gauging each other ahead of time? Ok, sure." So he did need it. I focused my magic and reconfigured the sword back into it's original shape as if it hadn't been bent in the first place, sweating again and wiping the sweat away. That was some tough metal. "Give me a second to do business first though, please." I then turned back to the visitor who began to speak.

When he introduced himself I was extremely surprised. I did scoff, but otherwise kept silent. Still like, extremely surprised. So of course I didn't say anything, but I did listen to what he was asking. When he was finished all I could do was ask a question. "You're Wilhelm? You?"

I then started to laugh, loudly. Not at the request. I was confident I could fulfill the order. At him. He wasn't a Uncorn. The guy who also ran a similar magical technology shop nearby wasn't a Unicorn. I just couldn't control myself and actually fell over on my back. After I felt like I couldn't laugh anymore, I got back up on all fours and attempted to regain my composure. Still snickering, I had to say something.

Every once in a while I'd stutter as an uncontrollable snicker escaped my mouth. I hoped I didn't ruin his first impression of me too much. "I-I-I'm sorry sir. Really, this reaction i-is rude of me. I swear I'm trying my hardest to control myself, but I just couldn't take you seriously when I'd found out who y-you were. Y-you're not a Unicorn, and yet you work on magical technology. There was no way I hadn't heard of your shop, but other than that I'd never seen or heard of you previously. S-So I just assumed you were doing things in a similar way that I did. I assume you consult where needed and theorize a lot? That's respectable. I-I respect your commitment, even being non magical." He probably did consult. I was sure of it.

Finally I accepted the rifle and floated it around to examine it. "This is too delicate to use tools on. It could explode. I can see why you needed my help. I work with metal on a regular basis, but just to be sure I do it to your specifications, I assume you have a diagram of how it should look?" Sparky took detailed scans of the rifle. "I'll need to take it apart to make sure I get it right, and I hope that's not a problem for you."

I floated the other device closer to examine it, making sure to be delicate with that as well. "This is no problem. What you have there is what I consider an early version of Sparky's frequency scanning module. I can either enchant this one to read the magic frequencies, or make you a new one with my own Magitek. Either way it will need to be properly calibrated." I paused to examine the device to confirm that's what it was, and Sparky took a scan of that as well. "I'll need to take this apart and put it back together as well, if you'd rather I use it instead of making a new one."

I thought over a pricing for this and came up with an idea. "Given you've already done most of the work for me, I can't ask for much. I'll do both for the paltry sum of a thousand bits. I know your business isn't doing as well as mine, but I've seen customers going in and out. I'm sure you can afford it and it's nothing to you." I paused to let him think on that. "If everything is acceptable, I can probably have it done by tonight, but it means my fight with Caliber will have to be delayed. Though we probably will still be able to train together. The Directive Spell to make the scanner work to process the incoming data is rather intricate."

I looked over at Caliber hoping he wouldn't be mad about that.

Wilhelm stayed quiet throughout the entire laughing fit, eyebrow upraised. When she spoke again, he nodded and looked around in his saddlebags for the blueprints. "I believe I have it in here somewhere..." It took him a few more moments, but eventually he came up with the blueprints for the design and hoofed them to Lektra. On the back was scrawled a lengthy technical and practical explanation of how it worked, and on the front was a detailed representation of the repeater from several angles, including a cross-section of the actual workings.

"I would prefer if it was my own design rather than another's; even if it has been enchanted, at its heart it would be still my original design, and it would be easier to troubleshoot and to fix if necessary." Wilhelm shrugged. "Furthermore, as you will probably realize from looking over the plans, I would recommend not removing the crystals in the first thing, or a feedback loop from the initial enchantment connection between the collection prongs and the crystal may be created between those three and the remover of said crystals, creating a rather nasty burst of magical energy. And thank you for having it done so soon; I would have expected a longer time with such delicate equipment." Wilhelm looked over the blueprints and the weapon one last time to check, and then took out a large bag of bits and put down three quarters of the contents of said bag onto a nearby table, then handed what he had put down to Lektra. "This should be enough."

@Corona de Adamas,

Night Tracer was chilled to the bone, he shivered. Nightmare Moon racked every nerve in his body, "Leave..." he thought. No, he couldn't just leave, he couldn't have put Luna through so much when he had hardly done anything, sure; love is a little bit more than "hardly anything," but after so little time, how could he have caused Luna such pain, such fear.

A tear slipped from his eye and hit the ground beneath him, "I don't want to hurt anypony, especially her..." he thought sullenly, "For Luna, for Equestria, they need her much more than I do... she needs herself much more than she ever willl.... need me," he hung on his final thought as if it were a mother clinging to her infant foal.

"Need me... need me..., " he thought, suddenly gears began turning in his head, "Wait? Who am I talking to? Why would she fear me? What did I do?" a barrage of questions filled his mind, all with obvious answers; how could he be so blind? How could he not see the blaintly obvious?

Fear... fear kept him from coming to the conclusion he knew was right. He felt that if he stayed he could jepordize Luna and all of Equestria, knowing her critcial role. But he took leap of faith on himself, he believed he was right, and that's exactly what he would telll Nightmare Moon.

"You? Arguably, the most hate filled, the most kniving being in all of Equestria, from centuries past and centuries to come-- you're aware of your rap sheet, aren't you?" he questioned. "Besides you said you're her bad thoughts, her fears, her hate, Well if you are deception and your are vile, then why should your intentions be any different?" he interrogated; it was obvious that he clearly had missed a large part of what Nightmare had said.

"And how do you know that I caused it? I understand that I may of but I didn't." He attempted to explain, "You said that I did something, I may not know for sure what she thinks or how she feels but I know I didn't do anything wrong!" He yelled in spite.

"You said it yourself, she had been hurt many, many times. Betrayed, stabbed in the back, left for the timberwolves as the expression goes. So, why would she not be scared of getting hurt again? What she feels is fear; what Is she afraid of? Not me! But the thought of me; I'm another stallion that she is about to invest her heart in, or she's thinking about doing so with. So, her trouble, is her trying to decide if I'm worth it. For being her dark thoughts; you seem to be a bit out of the loop, " he stated.

NT had a fierce look in his eyes, he was not just about to leave, he wasn't going to abandon Luna, he needed to be there for her.

"See, I'm different, I'm not like those of the past, I am my own. I'm different; she may be my heart's desire or she could be my sovereign leader, regardless, I'm staying to protect her."

"I can save her from herself or from you... Whichever it may be. And not only that but others. Time after time she has been betrayed, she has been hurt. But if I were to be here then perhaps she wouldn't have to suffer... She wouldn't have to put up with backstabbers that she had given her heart, for I will have it. And hidden away under a tight lock and key; never to be opened again without her will...." He tried to reason with Nightmare Moon. He was no longer upset, now he was tired; his eyes filled with heartache. He was about to break, twice in one night.

"I don't know..." He looked at the ground, almost to a loss of words, "Yeah, I'm not much. I'm aware but maybe... Just maybe I can help. I can help, like I said, I can protect her. Really, I could. Or at least prevent her pain. If I leave their could be another Stallion... Or any pony for that matter, that could hurt her. Sure I'm not perfect but I'm not bad either, I have her best interests in my sight, I would have to, to protect her."

He was becoming less and less confident as he went on, he had no way to show Nightmare Moon that he was able. He thought he was but he didn't think he was very convincing, then a thought came To mind, a scary, risky thought. He didn't think about it, he didn't recognize the risks of transforming his thoughts to a reality, so, he spoke carelessly.

"I have a proposal. One you and I can agree on...." He trailed off. "Let me have her sorrow, let me have her pain. Give it to me. You can rest and I can stay. All her troubles, give them to me, I can be there for her so you don't have to be..."

He pondered, "You'll regret this," he thought, but he didn't care, but maybe he ought to.

caliber shrugged. "hey, i was planning on training alone, anyways." he said, as he finally sheathed his sword. "im guessing we'll have our fight tomorrow?"

he grinned, happy he was up against someone so strong, and who knows? maybe she wont just twist up his sword, making a guaranteed victory.

"so, i guess ill take my leave, then." caliber said, as he started to leave.

Rarity tossed herself bodily out of the way of the ice shards. Some more were still coming her direction, however. Her necklace once again glowed ocean blue, and the sapphire that was circling her body responded. Shooting out in front out of her, it spread itself out into a thin blue sheet that stood in front of her like a wall, blocking the remaining ice shards.

Meanwhile, behind Ice Blizzard, the ruby curved around after several feet of distance and zipped back in his direction, making another attempt to close in on him and explode.

Blizzard looked around and saw the ruby behind him, "Ah! Ok, that's it!" He charged himself a little, "Stay focused, stay alive!" he ran towards Rarity, and seemed to gear up for a punch to her face. But, at the last second, he jumped over her instead, and while behind her, he ran up to sweep kick her off her hooves.

Kazas simply snickered at the prospect of Lorec being royalty.

" Saying that Lorec is a prince is like saying queen chrysalis is the rightful ruler of Equestria, ha ha! No, he is not a prince. But what he is, however...."

Kazas paused and took a long drink of his water, finishing the glass.

" A warrior. A leader, a father, and a comrade. You see, Lorec has been looking for the perfect match. My friends Syuren and Vorrin proved to be of no match against him. My friend Alrahm, he thought too boring to go all out. And me? Well... it'd get way out of hand if we both battle at full power. So, I made a promise that our friend Lorec doesn't know about. I promised myself that when he had found that match that he's been searching for for twenty years, that we would all throw our support behind him. Besides... it's more than about the fight. Lorec planned to let a lot of baggage go with it, and fighting is the only way he knows to get it out of his system. Naturally, as his sworn, of course I'm going to throw the full weight of support behind him. As for the acolytes you heard about earlier..."

He had a coy grin on his face.

" Together, Lorec, myself, and the aforementioned friends founded the Divine Retribution Order. We figured that since we had the power to do so, we should use it to change the world for the better. So we became a bit of volunteer force, you see. Seeing as we all had a stable source of income, we didn't bother becoming a guild. We have taken on many missions. Keeping peace in Saduaris, Helping rebuild Leovia, defending Equestria from attack on different fronts... you name it, and chances are we have probably done it. Naturally, we started to attract attention, and because we had already built up individual reputations beforeclaw, there were many who wanted to emulate what we did, and came seeking us out, asking to join. Intially, we refused, not wanting others to risk their lives in our stead. However, not only did they keep coming, but everywhere we went, there were those who would ask to join. Ex-Leovian military who served with me during the Leovian Civil Contention, Saduarian warriors who were attracted by Lorec's reputation, and many more from all walks of life came, answering the call. And right now, at what I consider to be the height of our power, we are 2,000 strong, not including the keepers, like myself. Each of us trained them personally ourselves, taking note of specializations and putting each individual into one of the five keeper units based upon qualities and talents. And the big thing is... they don't do it for money. bragging rights and glory, a life of adventure, or even just to make the world a better place are all reasons that many have joined. Naturally, this has... upset some others in position of power, however, we do not take sides in national conflict if it came down between Saduaris, Leovia, or Equestria. The missions we take and send acolytes out on are solely to improve conditions for ALL beings, not just one nation. We are loyal to the world and its inhabitants, not to the interest of governmental powers. Of course, that is the keeper in me talking. The Leovian ambassador in me is the one who helps diplomatic relations between Leovia and Equestria along with serving up important documents to other officials. heh heh."

Pausing once more to catch his breath, he spoke in an apologetic manner.

" sorry if I got too carried away. It's just that, if you go near the arena and see a band of warriors from all regions in a formation, I don't want you to be surprised."

In this world, is the destiny of mankind controlled by some transcendental entity or law? Is it like the hand of God, hovering above? At least it is true, that man has no control... Even over his own will.

The loud and constant noises of the metallic steam powered vehicle I was cooped upped in made it fairly hard to concentrate. With a sigh I closed my book and shoved it back in my pack along with the rest of my gear. Being busy with my book I hardly noticed the stares I got from the river of multi colored equines riding with me. What you never seen a griffon before? As unnerving as the stares were they were understandable, since griffons tend to stay clear of Equestria for whatever reason. The loud sound of the whistle rang as my destination was reached. "We have reached Bangcolt I repeat we have reached Bangcolt! If this is your stop please leave through the exit and show your identification at the guard station up ahead."

Grabbing my things I made my way to the exit managing to squeeze my way through the ponies crowding the train. Stepping out the first thing I saw was an eyeful of sunshine. Having the eyes of a hawk just sorta made the whole ordeal hurt even more. "Jeez this place is ridiculously sunny how do these ponies stand it?" After a bit of complaining and rubbing my eyes I walked past the train station and to the guard checkpoint. "Now, where do I go check in....ah ha!" I said as I spotted a couple of ponies quickly flashing their papers to guards and happily trotting away. Quickly making my way to the booth I took out my credentials and flashed them to the guards.

With a quick nod the guards opened up the way and let me go on my merry way. Taking out my map I looked for the general direction of the magical store my wife to be recommended. Taking a second look I noticed a little message on the map which read.

"[/i]Vice this is Grail if you are reading this you probably are already at Bangcolt. Nice place filled with a couple of fun spots I highly recommend. However if your planning on fighting in that arena of theirs your gonna need equipment with a little more of a magical touch. Grenades and fancy brass knuckles only get ya so far in an arena like that. So go check out their local shop and get some new stuff,if ya feel like keeping your old gear just get that stuff enchanted or something. Eitherway enjoy your trip and don't die, got enough problems as it is back home.[/i]

Putting the map away I made my way to the magical store wondering what they just might have for a birdy like me.

Rarity had thrown up her guard as Ice Blizzard approached, but at the last second, he jumped over her, leaving her to deal with the ruby zipping in on her. It missed her face by inches, coming back in instead to join the gems that still spun around her body.

In doing, so, however, she was left off guard for the subsequent leg sweep. Her back legs were kicked out from under her and she slammed into the ground shoulder first. Instead of stopping, however, she took the blow into a roll that moved her away from Ice Blizzard. Her necklace shined, and the emerald spinning above her matched her movements; as she came to a stop, she fired a thin blue beam into it that flashed out of it at twice the size and power as it headed for Ice Blizzard.

--------

"Give you the pain? You would dare take in the mind of an alicorn? aeons of anger, sorrow, and torment... and you would hold it all, just for the chance to save her?"

She began to laugh. No, she began to cackle, a hollow, empty sound like bones shuffling in a graveyard. For a minute, it spiraled up into the sky, until Nightmare suddenly stopped laughing. She looked at Night Tracer, deathly serious.

"...You are a fool. Even if I could give you what you seek, such an act would scatter your mortal mind to the four winds, sending Luna even farther over the edge and waking me up once again. Such an option would be pointless, as would killing you, or sending you to some dark corner of the world. Believe me when I say I would already have taken such options, were they in any such way a help to Luna or myself."

She shook her head. When she opened them, they were absolutely filled with desperation. She spoke softly.

"No, your only option is to leave, of your own volition. Push her away; gently snuff out the spark that would re-kindle Mother's heart, before I am once again forced to deal with the flames as they spill over. Leave us to our empty existence, Night Tracer. I am begging you."

-------

"All sounds like a mighty big deal."

Applejack got rid of the last of the broken glass, and was setting the tables back up-right.

"Well, to be honest, a lt of it went over my head. it sounds like you and the rest of your friends got Equestria's back, so I suppose I have to thank you for that. As for Lorec, he may not be a prince, but he sounds mighty respectable, and he is my new friend as well, whether he smashed through my wall or not. I reckon the least I could do is go see this match-up. I'll be sure to make it there before all 200 of ya, though, getting caught in large crowds is not my style."

Blizzard saw his attack had worked, "Yes! She doesn't look hurt. Keep it up dude!" He then saw another gemstone headed straight for him, "Oh no. What to do..." he said sarcastically. When the gem got close, Blizzard backflipped away from it and pushed a clone forward in his place to take the hit for him.

There was a hooded unicorn watching the fight from the stands. Among the crowd, nopony could identify him.....

Rarity picked up the tone in Ice Blizzard's voice immediately, and mentally kicked herself. He wasn't taking her seriously, which meant she had failed. Again.

Rarity hated being weak. At first, she had simply thought that having her hooves would be enough, and that she didn't need to be strong like Rainbow Dash or Twilight Sparkle, as long as she could throw a good punch when the time came for it. Her friends would always be there to make up for her weaknesses, and she could count on them to protect her. That was how it went.

What a fool she had been.

From her saddlebag, Rarity hurriedly pulled out seven small lapis lazuli's, matching the large one that rotated around her. They shot off in different directions before lodging themselves at different points around the infranstructure. At the same time, the ruby moved from around her, shooting off in Ice Blizzard's direction again.
