Blizzard looked and saw the new gems Rarity had equipped. "Oh crap. What could that be? Better spruce this up a notch..." Blizzard did something he never thought he would do: Actually try to hurt Rarity.. This time he rolled out of the way of her ruby, ran back to gain distance, and then forward while saying, "I must say Rarity. You really got some good skills here. It seems like I gotta actually try harder than normal against you. Ha! And others call you weak? Pssh, yeah right. But anyway...it's my turn!" When he got close enough, he performed a combo attack. First, he swept her off her hooves again, then he knocked her back up with an uppercut, and finished with a drop kick to send her backwards, "Whew. You're pretty good." he said while breathing heavily.

Really, he was undeterred by being laughed at? He was either determined or just not easily swayed. Same thing. I really appreciated it though, and did respect him for not just leaving in a huff.

 

I looked over the plans rather hastily. I had time. I'd look them over in detail later and compare with the scans Sparky took. I was more interested in the representation of the workings for the moment, so I could start to imagine the final result and the work I'd have to do. "The final result of the rifle is.....delicate. I don't want to experience a feedback loop and have what happened to Trixie possibly happen to me. I'll require more time for this than I originally thought, since I'll have to move the steel molecules one at a time slowly to avoid the feedback or an explosion. I'm sorry Will. May I call you Will?" I paused for a second here, hoping a contemporary wouldn't mind we were on closer terms. "After disassembling what can be disassembled, I'll need at least week to shape the metal around the crystals for proper ventilation and focusing of the mana output. I'll apply a finishing spell to the crystals afterward to keep the assembly from jiggling so the weapon could be used without issue, but until then it's a delicate process to even carry it around." I floated the rifle onto a nearby pillow. "Surprised you haven't noticed this yourself, actually. This thing is extremely unstable until finished, kind of like my own inventions." I looked at the rifle on the pillow to make sure it was alright. "I tend to work nights and some of the day. I'm sorry, but this means the feel will have to be doubled. You don't need to pay me now. Half is fine." I said with a friendly grin as I turned to the scanner I was still floating around.

 

"As for the scanner it's really no trouble to use what you got. You've done the technical work, Sparky has scans, and it just needs one of my custom Directive Spells to be applied in order to properly process the environmental input." It was the rifle that was more complicated. I'd made a scanner like this already and I could do it myself without Sparky. so this was secondary to me. The rifle was interesting though, and I could probably improve upon the design one of these days if I had time.

 

And another thing I had to make him aware of. "As a walk-in you have priority. I have 11 other orders, but they're mail-in and didn't pay in advance. You're also a contemporary, so this is interesting to work on anyway. I hesitate to call you a rival since your stuff is more mechanical than magic, while mine is the opposite." I had a smile on my face, already running the calculations on how focused I'd need to be to get the spell right. Then I shook my head. "But I had prior engagements and it's not evening yet, so I'll start later. You can look around if you want, and let yourself out when you're done. I trust you to not mess with anything. The door will lock once you're out." I turned to Caliber.

 

"No no, please don't leave. Can we train together? It sounds like fun before our fight." He was leaving through the door already and I caught up to him to follow along.

Wilhelm smiled. "Of course you can call me Will; nearly everypony does. A Germane name isn't very common in Equestria, and so most ponies just call me Will. And as for the unstable issue, well.." Wilhelm ran a hoof through his hair, and continued with a more wry tone. "Most stuff I make tends to have that issue. I'm sure you know the feeling; the more ground you break, the more likely the pile you just shoveled away will be to fall back onto you. Eventually, I'm working on something called a..." He waved his hoof around a bit, trying to articulate an idea.

 

"A polymer, I suppose. Something like gelatin, or what that Smooze creature at this recent Gala was made of, but more formfitting. Hopefully, I could inject it into important areas and have the heat of use set it to seal everything in tightly, but for now, I have to rely on spells, as we all must beyond a certain point." Wilhelm sighed a bit, but recovered his smile. "I have faith in you, Miss Lektra. Please, ask me if you have any questions- I'm quite literally next door. Also, about looking around- prepare to be taken up on that at some point. I have a bit of work to do- some idiot thinks that I can somehow make him an arc thrower that will fit on his foreleg like something from Assassin's Colt- but I'll be sure to find a place in my schedule for here."

Rarity took the shots hard, once again winding up on the floor, though nothing was significantly damaged. She lay there, pulling Ice Blizzard's words agonizingly through her mind.

 

Not weak? When she couldn't even protect those close to her? When she let...

 

She shook her head to distract herself before the tears began to run; she was getting distracted. She chose not to roll this time. Instead, her necklace once again shone a beautiful blue. The sapphire responded, spreading itself out once again as a thin wall in front of her to protect her from attacks. From her bag, she tossed more Lapis, which proceeded to bury themselves in the floor this time. The ruby came back again for yet another run, attempting to cover the gaps that the shield couldn't.

Blizzard was confused by Rarity's actions, so he got into his thinking pose, "Wait a minute. Something's not right here. I don't think she's crying from my attacks. Is she what, insecure of herself? Doubtful of her own amazing skills? I gotta do SOMETHING."

 

He got up and was conflicted for a moment before shooting about 20 ice balls at her shield and saying, "You ok? Come on Rarity! Fight me! Show me more of your skills! I know you can handle yourself in a fight, just as good as almost every fighter I've come across in my adventures. Hell, you're actually better from what I can tell. Bring it on! I'm taking this just as seriously as all my other fights!" he said as he shot more ice at her shield.

Pinkie Pie was about to agree to go with Skitz and Mars, but, suddenly shudders rushed through her body and her left and right ears started flapping; simultaneously. Her ears alternated. 

 

"Oh, Sorry guys I gotta go, it's a super duper emergency!" she shouted, then bolted off. She was a pink dart racing down the streets on Bangcolt, flying past the other ponies without any care. 

 

Then she saw a girffon she had never seen before, so she quickly went to introduce herself to the stranger.

 

"HI! I'm Pinkie Pie, my pinkie sense told me you were new here, and if you are new here then you're lonely so I don't want anypony or Griffon to be lonely so I figured we could become friends, maybe even BEST FRIENDS!" Pinkie Pie cheered with glee, smiled brightly and stared down Vice with her vibrant blue eyes as she anxiously awaited for her new friend to introduce themselves.

Rarity snapped out of it; this was not something she could afford to get Ice Blizzard or anypony invested in. She needed to act normal. She put her best determined expression while reaching into her saddlebag. From it, she pulled out a single opal, which she flung into into the ground in the center of the Lapis, moments before her sapphire shield broke, leading to her being peppered with ice balls.

 

She weathered through it while she waited for the reaction. Moments later, her horn pinged, and she knew it was time. Necklace glowing even brighter than before, from the ground, she yanked out five rubies. These ones joined the original on their course to track down Ice Blizzard.

Fluttershy then returned to the room, "Sorry it took so long. I was having to find a brace big enough since most of the animals I treat are smaller." She laid out the brace for him to slip into and waited for him to do so.

 

"The most important thing for you to do is rest. You shouldn't be very active, it could risk reinjury. So, you should be in no rush to leave," she explained. "Also, I have these tablets..." she shook them in their orange capsule, "They should help relieve pain but only take 4, it's a little much but you're bigger than my usual patients." She concluded.

Blizzard became ecstatic when Rarity perked up, "Alright! Here we go! Defensive Barrier!" Blizzard put a spin on a way to say 'ice shield' as he defended himself. "I can take it! Bring it on!" He had another counterattack up his nonexistent sleeves. Or, at least he would, if he could decide which one to use.

" ha ha, that's perfectly fine. I know I get carried away sometimes, anyways. Passionate about the work. And yes, we have Equestria's back when we are needed... Well... guess I need to pay my tab. The real reason I came here was for a bit of... I guess you could call it a date. Or it would've been... had I not been stood up, heh.. that, and I need to make preperations. And by the way, any friend to Lorec is a compatriot to myself, as well. You have my thanks."

 

He said, bowing his head at her slightly.

 

" actually... I have time. May I help you clean this place up a bit?"

The six rubies spun his way, attempting to circle around Ice Blizzard before detonating. As they did, they seemed to resonate, producing a bigger explosion between them. On Rarity's side, another emerald pulled itself roughly out of the ground, and she linked it up with the first one before firing a shot through them. The beam, now triple its intensity, swept across the ground, heading for Ice Blizzard's location.

"To be honest, most days i'd do it myself, but I could use a bit of help here" she said, looking around; the place was still largely a mess. "Tell you what; why don't you get started cleaning the dishes, and i'll work on cleaning the tables and getting all of this mess out of here?"

 

Minutes later, she was doing just that. She hauled a particularly large bag of wood pieces outside, then came back in for the rest.

"So, tell me, why's a date holding up someone like you? You seem like a nice guy, at least what i've seen of you."

Blizzard was hit with each explosion. His shield deteriorated an broke, leaving him defenseless as the last ruby blew up and sent him into a wall, "Aah! Guh!" he fell to the ground, injured, and was dazed for a moment until he saw the beam, "Brr. Crap. What to do on this one? Ow my back! I can still jump and shoot ice no problem. Come on...."

 

He saw the beam heading for him, and jumped over it when the time was right. Although he barely dodged it due to fatigue and pain. He was still pretty banged up from that explosion, so he had to resort to shooting instead of punches. "Ok, no more games. Take this!!" he shot a beam of ice straight at Rarity in an attempt to subdue her.

Rarity saw the beam coming, and she fired through the emeralds in an attempt to match it. The two beams collided in a shower of sparks, lighting up the dark caves of the mine, and for a moment, it seemed like neither of them were giving an inch.

 

All of the sudden, however, the necklace that had been shining like a torch light around Rarity suddenly dimmed, before going out completely. Around the room, all of the gems in the arena simply dropped to the floor. Including the emeralds; with nothing to defend her, Rarity took the attack head on. She was sent spinning across the room, where she lay, still.

Blizzard kept up his blast until his and Rarity's woukd collide. After which, he saw her necklace dim, the gems fall, and his blast sent her flying. He was astonished that his move had worked, and he also knew that Rarity was either powerless at this point or that she had a trick planned. Regardless, he was very worried about Rarity. "Aha! Hm? Oh no! What have I done?!" 

 

Since he was already injured, he couldn't exactly 'run' over to her. He limped over to where Rarity was and asked her quietly, "R-Rarity? Are you ok? Please say something. Anything. Or at least open your nice eyes if you can." he said with a shaking tone in his voice as tears began to form in his eyes. "I don't care about winning. All I care about is this lovely mare whom I carelessly hurt." "Medic!"

Rarity opened her eyes, sadly staring into Ice Blizzard's as she lay on the floor. She muttered almost incoherently.

 

"I'm sorry, Sweetie, i'm still not strong enough..."

 

Then she promptly passed out. Around her, the intercom blared, the voice on the other end almost somber.

 

"Attention ponies: the match between Rarity and Ice Blizzard has been decided. Winner: Ice Blizzard."

 

As the stage flashed back to normal in a burst of light, a group of medics rushed in, led by Nurse Redheart. They placed Rarity gently on a stretcher before wheeling her out of the arena.

Blizzard was relieved when he saw Rarity's face look up to him. But he would almost never get rid of the guilt caused by such an occurence, "I can't believe it....I hurt her....no. NO! Goddammit! Why did I have to fighy her?! I deserve to be left in Tartarus for this. Oh please Celestia have mercy on me."

 

He saw the medical team rush in and out, "Huh? Rarity! Wait!" He slowly limped towards the infirmary and followed the medical team.  He followed them all the way inside, and waited outside Rarity's hospital room door. "As soon as she wakes up, I'm going in to see if she's ok."

A couple of hours later, Rarity woke up in the hospital bed. Rather, she bolted up, looking around nervously, before settling back down She looked around; she really shouldn't be surprised to be here, since Ice Blizzard had shouted something about medics before she passed out. Looking over herself, she didn't seem so hurt; she guessed she'd have doctors to thank for that.

 

She looked over the bed, and, confident that her stuff was all here, including the necklace that she'd been wearing during the match, she snuggled into the covers. Maybe she could get a few minutes more rest before she had to leave...

Blizzard had fallen asleep outside Rarity's door after he had also received healing from the medical ponies. When a nurse told him that she was ok, he lit up, and almost tripped trying to get through her door, "Heeyah! Ugh..Rarity! You're ok!" he tried his best to supress his urge to hug her, "How do I put this....? I'm....sorry. I should have been more careful. I...uh, I'd like to make it up to you. If you're feeling better, you wanna go get milkshakes? My treat." he said while his face turned faintly red.

"Ice Blizzard, you're here. I..."

She paused for a second, then dismissed it with a shake of her head as she grabbed her stuff. She strapped her packs onto herself, and then she was flank to flank with Ice Blizzard.

 

"I'm ready. Let's get out of this dreadful place!"

Blizzard nearly exploded on the inside from excitement. He did his best to maintain his cool however. As they walked outside the infirmary he asked, "Oh. I noticed you were trying to tell me something when I came into your room. May I ask what you wanted to say?"

 

As he waited for an answer, he found some time for deep thought, "Hm. What she said to herself before she passed out. 'Sorry Sweetie?' No way she was talking to me right then, as she normally doesn't call her friends 'sweetie'. Only one logical explanation: she meant her sister Sweetie Belle! And her context of saying, 'I'm sorry, I wasn't strong enough, could only mean a few things:

1. She went through a fight before and had lost just as badly.

2, She may want a rematch.

3. More than likely, it has something to do with her sister since she muttered her name. Maybe she was protecting Sweetie Belle from something by fighting me?!

Oh god no. This is too important to pass up on. I gotta know!"

 

He spoke again, "Rarity, you feeling alright? You seem...on edge about something. Do you want to talk about it?"

The sun was shining(if not too much) and the ponies here were all talking within there own little groups here and there. Too be honest I wasn't use to the social concepts of ponies myself. Being raised by and with griffons tend to make a fellow see things in more of a negative sense. " I think I might like it here," I said not noticing myself smiling. Turning to my side I saw a flash of an obnoxiously bright pink. The next thing I knew the weight of something slamming into me sent me tumbling to the ground. Looking up I saw a bright pink pony with blue eye that seemed to stare right into your soul.

 

   The happy looking pony then introduced herself in a rather umm eccentric manner saying stuff like I was her best friend. Her eyes were once again staring deep into my own, giving me a sense of urgency to say something. "W-well it's nice to meet you Pinkie, my name is Vice Whitetip. Sorry for not being as eccentric as you right now I just didn't really expect a greeting...well like this!" So this was pony social interaction? I didn't know they were this up front about it, it was surprisingly refreshing. Unless this pony was unique in her mannerism.

Strix raised an eyebrow as Fluttershy returned with the cast, and he slipped it on as instructed. He grabbed the pills in his good claw and gulped them easily.

"Thanks, I guess," he muttered, "I'll be fine on my own from here."

 

He turned for the door, wondering just how the hell ponies worked. First this mare was berating him, then she was scared of him, then she broke his leg, and now she nearly soiled herself and wanted to patch him up.

 

Ponies are weird.

Pinkie Pie waited for the Griffon to respond, impatiently. 

 

She was then ecstatic to know that this Girffon actually responded, unimprudently; that made her really happy. Her eyes lit up and miniature fireworks went off in her mind. This Griffon was actually kind!

 

"Oh that's ok, no pony is generally able to keep up with me!" She smiled wider, "I couldn't help but notice that you aren't mean and grumpy like most Griffon's. But you atually care enough not to be rude, Thank you!" She shouted.

 

"Well, anyway. I'm Pinkie Pie!" She reintroduced herself, "Why don't I show you around town?"

Fluttershy was about to let Strix leave but she still felt bad for breaking his foreleg. "Wait!" She cried, "are you sure you don't need anything else Strix? I still don't feel right about what I did." She explained

"I'll do anything, you name it." She smiled sheepishly

Mean and grumpy griffons? Was that how every pony here sees me? No wonder every single one of them gave me weird awkward stares the whole ride to Bangcolt. Hmmm not many griffons I've heard about have come by recently maybe except for....GILDA! If that hot head patch work of feathers were these ponies first impression to the griffon race it was no wonder a stereotype stuck. Thinking back one other griffon ventured into pony territory, he was a cook I believe. G...Gustav yeah that was the name, Gustav was quite famous in griffon lands the last time I checked. Decent guy from what I hear except he gets a little competitive when it comes to cooking. Wait a minute was I suppose to be doing something right now...!
