Was Starlight Glimmer's message similar to Twilight's in EQG?

In Equestria Girls they say "I'm just like you and you're just like me", but in the Season 5 premiere they say being just like each other is a bad thing.

The substantive discussion here would be centered around comparing and contrasting the lyrics in The Cafeteria Song, and Starlight's Message. Are they similar? Is there any context that would lead you to believe that they may be unique points of view that diverge? 

 

Bonus, how about if one includes the Sirens into the equation?

They probably meant in a metaphorical sense. Everyone is different (Season 5), but we're still the same (Equestria Girls), meaning that everyone is physiacally different, no one is the same (except maybe twins), but none of us rule over others. While in reality that's not true (COUGH OBAMA COUGH GOVERNMENT COUGH COUGH), this is Friendship is Magic we're talking about.

That's the point. Starlight Glimmer's message isn't bad: We all are equal. The problem is the way she interprets that. When Twilight said that in the Cafeteria Song she was talking about "equality through difference". Starlight is more literal, as she talks about everyone being exactly the same.

 

"And if we're different, yeah. I want you to be true to you"
