planning Fidelity

So, I'm thinking of making a Roleplay based in Space. Not sure what it'd be about yet, or any sort of structure. Ideas will be appreciated, but won't guarantee you a spot in the final RP, only a preference.
 
Thoughts? Ideas? Anything would be useful about now.
 
Ideas so far:

Call the ship "ESC Fidelity" (One of Fidelity's meanings is Loyalty) (ESC stands for Equestrian Space Cruiser)
Have the ship a Firefly class vessel

Go on adventures round some place? Solar System wide, Galaxy wide or Universe wide travel?

 

 

The plan so far:

Have a team of a few people on a space ship. We'd need a Captain, a Pilot, an Engineer, A Medical Officer, a Fighter and potentially some more.

 

It would be an "Open World" Roleplay where there is no specific storyline, besides we all go and do jobs. The jobs would be posted by me but ultimately the captain would be the one who chooses whether to accept them or not. I'm thinking of getting the map from the game "FTL" and basing our journeys around that.

 

We need to think of a name for the ship but until that point it shall be referred to as Fidelity, one of which meanings is Loyalty.

Nice! What I've got so far is that me and a few other ponies go around on advent res and shiz in space. We'd all be aboard the ESC Fidelity which is a Firefly class ship. I'll get a diagram for it later.

 

All we need is some sort of space map so we can plan it.

This seems fun!  I like the open-layout plan; mostly in that there is no specific plot, or anything.  An alternative to your idea that I had is that the space ship is giant, and there are thousands of ponies living on it.  They're trying to find a new planet to colonize, or something.  That way, RP'ers could join in the RP without screwing up the plot.  So, if I was to introduce my character, I would say something like:

 

Aspen Swift woke up to the normal 6:30 alarm.  He checked his bedside calendar and put an "X" over the previous day.  "461 days onboard, and another 592 to go."  He stretched and trotted outside, where the rest of the colonizers were waking up as well.  "I can't wait to get off of this old rustbucket," Aspen thought.

 

Anyway, just an idea.  Whatever y'all decide to do with it, sign me up!

@AspenSwift That is actually a very good idea. different events could happen. There are so many things that can go wrong in space so there's always that. Though if we were going to do that I think using a different ship would be better. My person favourite for this option would be "Destiny" from Stargate Universe. I'll edit the plan later and see what people think.

Obviously there would be a couple of groups to keep the roleplay organized, but we would also have to have a main team such as the Captain, engineer and other things.
