Discord......OR CURRENT RESIDENT?!?!

 Celestia's fishing for trouble is canon now? Now I DON'T mean by inviting Discord. I think inviting him was fine.

 

Did anyone else think of the possible ramifications of this? (putting OR current resident)

"Mr. Discord's Neighborhood" doesn't seem to have the most savory of inhabitants. Who knows WHAT could've shown up at the Gala!

 

As time goes on the show seems to be confirming Celestia is how Nicole Oliver envisions her. She likes to mess around but isn't a troll (isn't trying to be malicious or harm anyone.)

 

OR maybe Celestia just had too much "tea" that day.

 

What do you guys think of Celestia sending the invitation like that?

EDIT: Additional thought- maybe the writers didn't think about any of the above and it was another joke about junk mail- like Pinkie's used patio furniture flyer she was so excited about.

Not just you imaging this. "The Journal of the Two Sisters" confirms this. Even though it was written over a thousand years ago, and we can assume that she has matured since then, we still see her less than serious side. Like when she was messing with the Cakes in "A Bird in the Hoof" or at the end of "Griffon the Brushoff" when she laughed about getting pranked with the invisible ink. And yes, as seen in the "Best Night Ever", she found the ensuing chaos that the mane six brought to the gala to equate to fun.

Now that I think about it, since Twilight had helped organize this gala, maybe Celistia invited Discord ...or current resident as payback on Twi for the chaos she (and her friends) brought to the last gala.

I doubt Celestia is a vengeful spirit, not to mention, she was happy something interesting happened at the last gala. She seemed intrigued on many levels. Celestia may be a good princess, but she can be silly when she wants to. lol

Yeah, I didn't mean payback in a vengeful way. More like "enjoy a little chaos, it makes the gala fun". Plus Discord is a friend, so what chaos he brings is going to be the more fun type as opposed to the Equestria destroying chaos he brought before reformation.

Shows a side of her that she hides because she is a Princess and has to act all serious and formal and go through a ton of boring paperwork and meetings so it definitely takes a toll on her even if she is a seemingly immortal Alicorn and she takes the oppurtunity to have a little fun from time to time whenever she gets the chance but she's not a troll.

I mean, what would others think about Celestia if she DIDN"T invite him?

 

1) He is a friend of Mane6, specially Princess of Friendshi[p and Element of Kindness, it would be a blow to them or at least Fluttershy who really expected him to be invited and didn't consider that Celestia would be this mean after she forgiven him.

 

2) Discord is suppose to learn about friendship and gain more friends. Inviting him to the gala was perfect opportunity for him to develop his friendship with Mane6 and Spike.

 

3) She already enjoyed Gala being ruined in Best Night Ever. While it is the visible most implied reason why she invited him, it wasn't the only logic one. Discords friends and most of the fandom would hate Celestia if she didn't invited him. He is just a lonely man not adjusted to their world order, he doesn't deserve more isolation

i'm REALLY glad she's being written this way more often. Heck, she was like that back in first season, but now she's getting to be less of the 'God' and 'Mom' and more of just another character with her own actual personality. I love it!

I would be more concerned at a "Current Resident" showing up at the Gala. The mailpony didn't seem to be having a good time in the Discord Zone. He could have just been like "F@%# this" and gave it to anything there just to get the hell out. He didn't know what's what there anyway.
