Numbered scores do little to actually gauge a game's quality. The reason it has such a score is going to change from reviewer to reviewer and those reasons are also going to change from the gamer who reads it.

It goes along with why no one can agree on any single game. Things some games do well matter more to some than it does to others and the things it does wrong will annoy certain people while others will consider it a complete non-issue.

So it's important to read the actual review rather than just look at the score unless you really and truly trust or generally agree with the guy writing it.

Like the video says, the scores often reflect the opinions of a single person, and many people may disagree with some or most of what that person has to say about the game.  For instance, Alpha Protocol received largely negative reviews from most critics, yet it's one of my favorite games of all time.  Like Discordian said, reading the reviews is a critical part of making an informed decision, and scores can be rather vague and misleading.

I think that numbered scores are not the issue, but rather the value placed on them and metacritic by consumers and companies.

I have no major problems with scores. The only issue that I have are people who rely solely on those to make their purchase. Sure, if I am interested in a game, I will go to metacritic to see its score rating, but then I will read those reviews centered around that score, to see what is up with the game. So I really don't think scores are bad in that, they've just become a bit too much of a focus.

One thing I do disagree with in this video, is his opinion of the 10/10 score. What he doesn't realize is that many review outlets do not view 10/10 as a 'perfect game', but rather one that is so amazing that it rises above all of its flaws and competition. It basically shows a downright amazing game, not a perfect one. AngryJoe recently gave the Witcher 3 his 5th 10/10 and he explains the same thing. That game does have flaws, but 10/10 doesn't mean a perfect game, because if it did and we abided by that, we would never us that score, making it have no real purpose.

Game review scores are generally biased and differ to each other, but it does not mean that their opinion is fact.

Maybe all video games are just really crappy and are designed as cash-grab methods by game companies and independent developers, not intended to be pleasurable, just to steel aur moneyz.

Seems to be more and more the case, nowadays.  Buy the $100+ special limited edition of [this popular video game]!  You get a paperweight in the shape of an utterly forgettable character with no personality!  Don't forget to buy the season pass.  Pre-order now from participating stores and you'll get an exclusive skin for your character's father's baseball cap!*

*Offer does not include actual, physical baseball cap; nor actual skin.
