Why I Think My Little Pony is an Underrated Cartoon

I agree with you, except the part where you say it's art and not science. I believe these two go hand-in-hand. Science requires creativity, art has its restrictions.

That, and you're wrong in saying that watching MLP doesn't make you look more intelligent. As real bronies are aware, the best artists out there join the herd. :3

Someone once posted a thread with the link of an article, where Lauren Faust (as a fan of the previous show(s)) was stating her reasons for creating FiM and how it was different from the previous generations.

She was giving the example of the characters, who were (quoting as much as I can remember) "stereotyped girls who giggled at the slightest thing". In her work, on the other hand, she gave them different personalities - studious, tough, ambitious, proud, shy, hyper; and that's just the mane 6.

So yeah. The show indeed took intelligence to make, and it certainly takes intelligence to appreciate, too.

Using my dark power of threadio-necromancing I shall bring this thread back from the grave. I will now flee, for necromancy is forbidden by the law.

Anyway, nice post, you've got some really nice ideas about why exactly the show is so good, that really should be rather obvious, but we just don't realize it.

I think that MLP is unique in that it is both underrated yet overrated at the same time, it is underrated by many because many people simply can't get past the fact that it is a " little girls show" and don't really give it a chance. Even many of the most hard core bronies were skeptical when they first started watching, the only prior expose I had to MLP was seeing a little bit of the G1 cartoon thanks to this pony crazy cousin who was into it when we were kids so I based it largely on that but when my friend told me about Discord I just had to see if he was as awesome as he said he was. I watched that and then watched the rest of season 1 and 2 and have had a case of the pony fever since then.

It is overrated by some bronies though because some of them treat the show and fandom like some kind of religion by putting it on a pedestal and getting butt hurt whenever things don't completely mesh with their standards. And there are some whose love of the show can sometimes blind them to some of its faults, as much as I love this show and its interesting, relatable, engaging stories and characters it does have its occasional hickup and some people can get a bit defensive when someone criticizes certain aspects of the show or its characters. And I have found several posts and threads about how the fandom is supposedly dying because someone did something stupid or there are the occasional disagreements over certain things in the show.

Whoo hoo! Another year-old thread that has been resurrected from the dead! (that rhymes) I do not consider the show neither overrated or underrated, personally.

Oh, yes, certainly to your first paragraph. But I was just pointing out the core difference, that science and engineering have the objective of learning about the Universe, and using that knowledge in a practical application, respectively.

Hehe, I hadn't really noticed that before, about appearing intelligent :) All the cool artists like MLP. I guess it's kinda hipster that way xD

So my first paragraph really replies to the rest of your message, too. I have a brother-in-law who I consider genius. He doesn't know science or engineering like I do, but he's written a number of brilliant songs.
