So, I got to thinking, why don't we have something like this. I know this is a friendly forum not competitive in anyway and such but this would be interesting to see in my opinion.

 

Ok so people share art all the time. As well as writing. As well as other stuff. What if we gave out awards like, "Best Artist." "Best Writer." "Best RPer." "Best RP character." "Most Friendly user." 

 

Also show related stuff. Like "Best Pony tournament" "Best voice actor" "Best episode" stuff like that.

 

And we could branch out like, "Favorite analysis." "Favorite Brony musician"

Hell I would like it to be Brony orieintated and reated but it doesn't have to. It just seems like somehting fun and cool to do

Stuff like that. I've got this whole thing planned out in my head and ideas and stuff. So, I could even plan it Cuz I'm great like that. But I just think this would be an awesome thing to do. 

 

Idk, up to the admins and stuff. I eagerly await

When it comes to show related stuff I would be game for creating an official awards topic and event, but not for the member awards. In the past this has been something that other members have done. We have always disliked officially labeling someone as best anything. So there won't be an official user awards topic.

What Jeric said, plus I think it's far better for normal members to run these things. That way we get to add our own things in for fun. I honestly think that if the staff decided to run their own forum awards, it wouldn't be as good (No offense). I've been on a forums where they ran their own official awards and it kinda felt like it was promoting favoritism in some way, and I wasn't too keen on that.
 
Also if they done official awards, I could imagine the idea of having an award tab on our profile will follow. I mean seeing some members having all these official medals/awards sitting on their profile; As nice as it would be, it can be somewhat intimidating. At least on the forums I was on I felt a bit intimidated by it because I knew I'd never officially get one.
 
That said. The freedom of allowing normal members to do their own forum awards is far better and pretty cool. I even done one myself (And I'm planning to do it again next time around). You can find mine here.

Often times it's somebody mentioning their friends, and sometimes people will mention others who have for one reason or another stood out to them during their forum travels. Jealous complaints and flame wars regularly resulted. Should the staff begin labeling members as "best/most recognizable anything," you can expect more of the same plus allegations of nepotism.

 

Extremely high levels of butthurt and misconduct would be an absolute certainty if this was to happen. I recognize your heart is in the right place, but it's simply not a wise course of action for the staff to take.

These were my exact arguments against it when creating the topic. And, I support all of these. I figured I might as well still throw in the suggestion though for the more general things such as; "'Best Pony." "Best Song" "Best Episode" "Best Fanfiction" "Best site mascot" and stuff like that.

I'd honestly like to see that and was more of my main focus anyway. Just hold polls and such, have members vote on the question. It'd be interesting to say the least. And personally, I'd like to see a best pony tournament

@, This was done in the past. I was a moderator for it, and I absolute do not want to deal with it again. It was member organized, and the backlash that the mods had to deal with was staggering. Alt accounts to vote, bickering, hurt feelings, the list goes on.

Y'know, A mod can go ahead and lock this topic....

 

I was completely unaware of this prior event at the time I suggested this, I wasn't a member. And I took the liberty to scroll through some pages of this tournament discussion and can I just say two things. I'm so sorry for the mods that had to put up with that. Secondly, I can't believe how into it, people got and strategic just so there best pony would win. People in the comments were butthurt, people were rude, disrespectful, cnsipracy theorist. Now that I've seen that... this isn't such a good idea after all... Sort of sad considering how people can turn something good/fun and just make it hectic and awful.
