Recommended Posts

Oh, hello there.

I am the being known as Magos Amphrose. I was recently promoted to staff, and thus, I decided to make this thread. This is my ask thread. I take on all comers, assuming that everyone keeps it within the rulebook. I roleplay, I DM, but wait, I do more! Up to and including video games, Warhammer 40,000, Magic: The Gathering, and other nerdy stuff. :P

By all means, ask away! I shall prepare for your arrival!

Magic: The Gathering, Warhammer 40,000 (tabletop futuristic wargame where techpriests come from), Munchkin, sitting around on my computer all day with no real life friends to talk to, going out in public to prove how badly I socialize with knuckleheaded jocks... stuff like that. :P

What is your favorite rp on the forums?

One that I am reading? Probably either The Lost City or Evanescence. But the latter seems to have slowed down quite a bit... so I'm still trolling around on your OoC, and probably will continue to do so until the roleplay ends. So no, I'm not going away.

One that I'm playing? Sombra's Shadow if I can even brain enough to come up with a believable backstory for Lilith. In truth, it is the only one I have slated to play in.

Well I'm glad you like my roleplays  I try to put a lot of effort in them.

Who is your favorite oc to rp with? What oc (someone else's) is your favorite?

Favorite OC? Probably Shelevan. She went from overpowered to sweet and shy to overpowered to what she is today- which is, overpowered if you give her the exact right circumstances. Much more of a personality from what I used to put in my characters.

My favorite I have seen... I don't know, I've seen a lot of them. One that stood out to me were a pair of characters named Colt and Emi- but not so much their character sheets, as much as the brilliant person who played them.

But who could forget the #1 OC Ever? Or, of course, the #0 OC Ever?

What's your favorite deck to play with in Magic?

(I use a black/white hybrid deck, with a focus on powerful creatures, and I also have a black/blue deck with a focus on fast deployment.)

I love black/white Extort decks, but I have a special place in my heart for a green ramp deck I came up with not that long ago. :D

Okay, I'll ask something:

Would you kindly explain the theory of "Go Faster Red" for those who do not understand?

Aha, I see we have a potential Ork player here.

You see, Orks (Yes, ORKS, not orcs) in the Warhammer 40,000 universe (created by Games Workshop) have a latent, subconscious psychic field. One Ork by itself isn't especially enough to do much, but if you get a bunch of Orks together in one place, they can actually start bending the laws of physics to a degree- as long as you have someone bigger than them thwack the ideas into their brains.

So, let's have an example. Let's say a small mob of Ork Boyz (common foot troopers) are riding along in a Trukk (superfast lightly armored troop transport) with a Nob (considerably larger, elite, and experienced Ork). The Trukk stops for some reason, and, after the Nob starts yelling about what happened, the response comes back from the front seat- "Ehh... boss, we're out o' juice! We ain't gonna make it to da fight!"

"You'z lying, ya git!" the Nob roars as he flattens the Ork who said this. "I'z filled dis fing up meself right before we left! Now git a move on, before I krump more of ya!"

(Yes, all Orks speak with British Football Hooligan accents. Do not ask me why, this is just the way Games Workshop is. Or maybe they're trying to make a point?)

Now, in the ork mindset, because Might Makes Right (in fact, this is the one of the two hard-set rules of every single Ork society, along with Green Is Best (seeing how only other Orks are naturally green and Orky)), they believe in what the Nob says is true, so by the time Nob is finished with the Ork that was driving, the vehicle's already moving again- and will stop moving again just in time for them to reach the big scrap.

This is a more interesting example, but there are others. Such as most Ork weapons cannot be fired unless they are in an ork's hands- in fact, upon closer inspection, some of them are lacking a trigger, or sometimes even the entire action!- or, as the one you are looking for, the fact that the entirety of Ork society thinks that (and thus, it is for da orks) that Red is Da Fastest, Blue is Da Lukkiest, Yellow is Da Flashiest, Green is Da Orkiest, and Purple is Da Sneakiest.

((Regarding the last one, the logic for why Purple is Da Sneakiest color is, in the honest opinion of the Orks, 'Well, 'ave you eva' seen a purple ork?'))

What do you consider the flavor of life to be?

The flavor of life? Hmm... Perhaps savory, like a well done meat loaf with gravy, complete with a side of something sweet like baked apples complete with the nice, crisp juiciness of a salad.

In all reality, it honestly depends on what I wake up feeling like- but life tends to alternate between your best friend and your worst bully. Less than three months ago, for instance. I get up in the morning and stretch and happen to find a 20$ bill just floating around outside and everything generally goes well that day- but two days later you discover one of your old friends that you moved away from just died of spine cancer.

One could say that it is succulent and savory, but it is also as tough as shoe leather. If you can look past the bad, there's plenty of good, usually. At least, from my point of view.

... I just got a bit sentimental there, didn't I? Darn it. Oh, well.

Can you explain why a Baneblade, two Shadowswords, two Chimeras, and a handful of Adeptus Astartes supported by six Inquisitor psykers is so overpowered?

(I want to get some more Chimeras, but my wallet already hates me.)

I'm pretty sure it's because it blends psychic power with artillery, heavy infantry, and anti-tank units for efficient combined arms, but I'd like advice from a more experienced 40k player.

(Also, reading the Macharian Crusade right now.)

Baneblade

Also, sorry for taking so long. :3

Well, you have two options to counter that. First, play Eldar the right way. Of course, that's probably not the answer you want to hear.

If they are bringing 3 Baneblade-equivalents, they are one of Those Guys. >.< In reality, the list is easy to counter in theory, but harder in practice. You're not going to win Psychic Phase at all, so bench the psykers- get heavy weaponry, preferably a few weapon teams worth of it, to point at and bring down at least one or two shooting phases. They also provide fire magnets for the first few turns. From there, it depends on the Space Marines (unless he just cheeses it to get two tac squads and a captain or something cheap like that). You're gonna want to prefer quality over quantity- first troop choice should be a pretty strong Infantry platoon so you have access to the Weapons Teams and perhaps a few techpriests if you run artillery/Russes, but then you'll want at least two squads of melta and/or plasma vets in a chimera. From there, I'd also invest in a few Storm Troopers, mainly because they can Deep Strike meltas and plasmas in to knock a few HP off the tanks.

Other than that, maybe a unit of Basilisks... they're pretty good. That's a pretty hard matchup- I wish thee luck.
