Rarity seems to fight with hooves not magic

Yeah it's been observed that she almost seems to know a form of martial arts. I greatly approve! Her reasons are never really disclosed but just from my own experience with Karate and Kung Fu, I could easily see someone like Rarity being drawn to anything similar. Poise, control, and focus all go into the arts and are easily strong points for Rarity.

Whats this about not using lasers? She used them in the last episode, and in the comics she uses them all the time.

Nevertheless, it's still clear that Rarity favors or at least can reliably use a good deal of hoof to hoof techniques. Just because a guy is a good shot with a handgun doesn't mean he can't kick one's ass without it after all.

(Personally it's the opposite case with me. Forget the barn, I couldn't hit the broadside of a mountain.  ^_^ )

She did but it was her first time and raises the question why she doesn't usually do. It's bad writing on that episode to have her suddenly fight that way some can argue because it's a dream she could do it.

I think the reason that the writers make Rarity that way is that they could make Twilights magic look better but I for one think that the truth is that Raritys magical abilities are far surpassing the regular unicorn<3 My dear can handle dozens of dresses at the same time twilight had a trouble with a minor urasa :o Rarity creates fancy dresses and lovely attire  practically out of nowhere grace and beauty always in mind<3

she doesnt want to hurt anypony so she decides to fight with her hoof so the darlings who dare to challenge her could atleast have a little chance against her might <3 I for one am willing to  see behind the writing of the writers and I see that Rarity is happy and perfect  the way she is <3<3<3

Anger can make even the most divine of ponies into martial arts masters. :P Rarity seems to be proof of that.

Actually, rage can reduce even the greatest masters into flailing brawlers. Of course, if they are that easily sent into rage, maybe they aren't a true master.

Is it really uncouth though? She has on a multitude of instances complained about getting her hooves dirty or not wanting to ruin a hooficure.

I honestly don't get why she has no offensive magic in the canon and fights with her hooves when direct melee is usually not preferred for a character that doesn't like to get dirty.

Someone explain? Maybe Ochre since I'm quoting you and kinda disagreeing?

Martial arts are not fisticuffs. Not wanting to "get your hands dirty" conveys a desire for things to be orderly and controlled, something Rarity needs. Since she does appear to have some form of technique, self taught or otherwise, Rarity is still "not getting her hooves dirty" she's just doing it by being mindful and controlled when she fights rather than panicked and messy.

I wouldn't call that bad writing just convenience. Rarity was fighting multiple opponents at various distances, she took advantage of her most situationally appropriate weapon even if she's not otherwise skilled at using it. A wing chun master with a broken arm would surely learn and train with some more kicking techniques to compensate in the meantime.

Besides the emphasis of the episode wasn't on Rarity, it was Luna.

albeit i think an ursa minor is much heavier than several dresses (which are virtually weightless)

even several stands wouldn't match up to the weight of the ursa minor but i definitely agree she's definitely higher up with her magic than a regular unicorn. she has unique spells like her gem finding spell which when you really think about it is EXTREMELY useful not just for her dresses but money in general id be surprised if she wasn't loaded

That is what makes Rarity rather unique, anger seems to strengthen her, she is like a Red lantern in that aspect I suppose. :P

Anger, can be good if harnessed. It's a spark that can set off your body, or it can be a laser to focus your energy. However rage, wild and directionless, is destruction and can only work to damage one's technique.

Rarity does not have that problem but it's not her anger that makes her a martial artist, a true martial artist is one who otherwise has a sense of internal peace.

I think you are over emphasizing her abilities a bit. Rarity is a skilled magic user, but in the realm that she considers most important, her craft. There's nothing wrong with that, but more powerful than Twilight?

There's nothing wrong with being second best compared to Superman you know?

I still think that calling her shooting at the dresses laziness is being more than a little unfair to the writers. They made an episode about guilt and self-punishment for Pony's sake! All the while completing Luna's arc that started all the way back in "Luna Eclipsed." Are you really going to hold it against them for a slight breach in Rarity's fighting style?

It is actually a pretty big hole made.

It's two seconds of one scene, that takes place in a dream. I think we can let it slide.

Again, all of that, and Rarity's choice of offensive option is what you took away from the episode?

What does the episode have anything to do with it? I'm talking about that particular detail.

If you want me to go on about the other aspects that made DPDoMS have bad writing I can but that isn't the subject of the matter.

No I'd rather not because speaking as a writer, I thought that episode had great writing.

Because she's a peasant inside, a simple commoner. No amount of make up will ever hide that fact.

Here is a fact based on actual proof about Rarity : she is one of the greatest fashion designer of Equestria, she won the competition at Manehattan even if her rival stole her idea so she had to create something new and better.

Another fact based on actual proof : Rainbow Dash is the personification of arrogance.

That sounds oddly classist and pejorative that no one can rise above the situation they were born to. Kind of out of place in this show's positive message.

Besides, the martial arts know no class, race, or gender, they belong to everyone and anyone willing to learn.
