Alternative look in a professional environment.

Recommended Posts

What do you guys think about people with tattoos, unnatural hair color, piercings, alternative clothing in a professional environment?

If you were to get served by, or were to be a client to someone with an 'alternative' look, would you think differently of them? Do you think it should be more acceptable in the work place? Do you think they should cover up and look more 'appropriate'?

Give me your thoughts on this.

To me, it's more important if the person can do the work then what they are dressed in as long as it isn't something too distracting or revealing. I'm more open-minded when it comes to alternative clothing being a part of the alternative lifestyle myself. My mom, however, would side more with looking appropriate in a work environment.

Unless I have a reason to fear for my safety, then it does not matter to me much how they look, so long as if they're going to wear/have something, then it should be applied correctly

I don't really care about their personally appearance as far as tattoos and things go, as long as they're clean. Personally I think we could do away with archaic notions of professionalism like the suits and tie and dress codes, as long as you're clean look however you want.

No, because I am a decent human being and not a simple-minded savage.

I'm not bothered with it, but it really depends on the store and environment itself. If I had my order taken by a dude with purple hair and tats on his face at a menswear place like HUGO BOSS, then I would find it weird and kinda out of place. xD

I might cringe to that honestly. I don't mind if they dye their hair but not too crazy, if the person has a lot of tattoos, cover some. As for piercing, limited that to just earrings. But most importantly, dress neatly. Overall just be clean.

Don't get me wrong.. as much as I, myself like to go all out with punk rock style, I like to it professional too while working and not grubbing unwanted attentions.

I really don't have a problem with that. Tattoos and the such don't really define the person, so if they're competent at their job, clean, and don't have an overbearing personality, then it doesn't matter what design choices they made for their body. If it's a super professional role like a CEO or something, then it might be a problem if they don't want the company represented that way, though.
