Hello Everyone, Hope all is well!

 

As you can probably tell by my username, I am a "proto-brony" because I am still on the fence about the show. As of this post, I have seen the first 3 episodes of season 1 and I thought it was pretty good. I promised my brony friend that I would watch the first season with an open mind. Here are my thoughts so far. 

 

What I like about the show:

 

High Production Value- I'm sure you have heard this before, but I'll say it again. The quality of the voice acting is very good, the animations are very smooth, and the character designs are very dynamic, meaning the character "look" like their personality. That is something, at least in my opinion, is rare on TV and movies.  

 

The Friendship Lessons and the Elements of Harmony- The Elements of Harmony, Loyalty, Honesty, Love, Generosity, Laughter and Kindness are values that I think that are worth adopting. I think that if people treated each other with kindness and were honest with each other, we would be living in a better world.

 

Now, with all of that said, here's the other side of the coin, for me at least. 

 

I just can't really overlook the stigma of watching the show as a male. I "like" watching the show, but as a male I almost feel "dirty" watching the show. "Dirty" is the closest word I can use to describe the feeling. its really hard to explain. I saw both Saberspark's "Ballad of the Brony" and "Bronies: The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans of My Little Pony". I think I seen the latter about 4 times already. In fact I am watching it as I type. They both opened my mind about the whole thing but I'm still on the fence about it.

 

All in all, I do sorta like it but I digress,

Welcome Proto! I hope that you can find some friends (or at least some helpful people) here! Also about the fence thing, I would suggest that you also take a peep around youtube and check out some brony animations as well as music. They are the main reason why I love this fandom so much and I am honored to be able to share them with you!

As for the "dirty" feeling, I know it  I experienced  that for the first month of trying to sneak my episodes without anyone noticing It is normal to feel that because you are actively challenging a preset role for your life(not a bad thing, Quite good in fact!) I challenge you to say "I am watching My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic!" one more time, and another... good! Now have a good laugh because it is ridiculous!

I will tell you that I felt the same way about the show at first, I was like "this can't be happening how could I like this girly stuff" but as I continued, those thoughts just didn't matter to me anymore. Trust me when i say that this is how everyone reacts to the show, but I promise that if you like the show, you will ease right into it, and we will welcome you with open arms on the forums.

Hi there Proto-Brony! Welcome to the forums! ^.^ That is a really nice summary that you have posted. The animation and the moral lessons are by far two of my favorite things in the show. About your 'guilt', there is absolutely nothing to be shamed of when watching this show. The whole concept of 'gender specific shows' is a bunch of hoopla, you can enjoy any show you want regardless of your gender. Not only that, but this show is absolutely wonderful! You should embrace it. The more you watch it, the more you will enjoy it and you should take that enjoyment to heart fully. If you ever feel any doubts, just come to us here, we will always show you the wonderful nature of the show ourselves. :3
