Radiobolt 186 August 23, 2015 Share August 23, 2015 (edited) Am I the only one whose bothered by this??? I've noticed a boatload of re colored RDs on this forum as their "OC".. When in all reality an OC stands for original character. Yeah it's hard to make your OC completely different, but I mean, why are there so many just re colors? Isn't it supposed to be original? I'm not trying to get any hate, but I just believe that once your re color somebody else's OC, or any pony in the show, it's not an OC. (This goes with stealing manestyles also) Because it's supposed to be original! Tao 7,869 August 23, 2015 Share August 23, 2015 Thing is the show uses recolor in background ponies and same mane to tail styles so its going to touch the fandom a bit in some parts.

Doesn't change the fact that OC stands for original character. A lot of fans and writers/rpers/etc want their "oc" to be show fit in or cannon, my oc Smokey Gold uses a gun and his dad is killed by bandits and i've gotten "burned/flame" -_- for that: "Hes not cannon!" "They have no guns!" "Why are using a stallion?" Yah oc can mean a lot but mostly it comes down i believe to the writer or person making them and how play and use em. Fhaolan 4,484 August 23, 2015 Share August 23, 2015 Recolors are a common thing in most fandoms that have a core animation or comic. Sonic, for example, had tons of recolored 'OC's. So it's not limited to this fandom, or this forum.
Odyssey 5,717 August 23, 2015 Share August 23, 2015 Hello @Radiobolt, Just letting you know that I have moved your topic to the right section, Sugarcube Corner. While Creative Resources is meant for giving and receiving advice on creative works, Sugarcube Corner focuses more on the Bronydom.

zombienixon 330 August 23, 2015 Share August 23, 2015 Taking a stock vector or fan art and recoloring it (and probably in MS Paint) is the bare minimum of originality. Even the people who spent 5 minutes in Pony Creator to make their OC can look down on you. I've actually seen worse, though. There was one person who had an 'OC' that was just a picture of Vinyl Scratch with an Instagram filter. I'm pretty sure that's got to be some kind of record. And in regard to having recolors as background characters in the show, there's a bit of a difference there. Namely, that the color combinations and overall design tend to work, and you can look at without thinking "This looks like someone's OC."

I personally think that re coloring isn't originality, because it's not your own. I don't mind people who use bases though. Because I do xD Deviantart- http://kaeleek100.deviantart.com/ Signature and Avatar by Pucksterv
