Background display

What are the dimensions for the profile backgrounds? I can't find anything about it posted in the FAQ or otherwise.

For example: Avatars are 150X150. Signatures are 600X100

So what dimensions are the profile backgrounds scaled at? I'd like to know so my image isn't cut off or stretched.

i think profile background streching depends on what kind of monitor you are vieving it on  and what is your screen resolution so i think there isnt really one size that fits all monitors and resolutions perfectly perfectly i think

@Sunset's Shimmer, the total size of the background, as ooBrony said, depends of your screen's resolution.

Mine, for example, is the basic 1920x1080, so you should try to adapt whatever background you want to add to the limits that your monitor has.

Just look on your settings of your computer what resolution is your screen on, and then try to adapt it to the size of the background that you want to set on your profile. c:

Also, as a note, the maximum size of your background, no matter its dimensions, cannot surpass the 255kb(if you are a normal user) or the 500kb(if you are donor/suscriber).

So then wouldn't the height of a forum background be higher than the width, due to the layout of the forum?

I'm not really sure, to be honest, but this way is the one that seems to give the best results under normal circumstances, so try to give it a shot at least (you don't have nothing to lose), and if it doesn't work properly, please post here again. c:

So, reference I'm running at 1920X1080

Ok, I took some screenshots here to better explain my confusion.

Example #1

This is the MLP forums home page on Firefox 100% (no zoom)+

Ss9qrFq.jpg?1

This is the same Screen viewed at 50% zoom. Notice how you can see the full background image and where it ends.

94VKLuc.jpg?1

Example #2

This is my profile page (No customizations) at 100% (no zoom).

nk8PiQs.jpg?1

This is my profile page at 50% zoom (no customizations), again you can see the generic MLP forums image.

6x6G4Rf.jpg?1

Example #3

Now this is where it get's tricky. This is my profile (with background customization) at 100% (no zoom).

8ItNJLU.jpg?1

Again this is the same image take at 50% zoom.

LmzIdDC.jpg?1

I can see the image at full on 50% zoom. I don't know how I can get it to fill in the middle area, as you can see that the generic background does. Making it out of proportion, and not view-able for really any resolution.

Sorry, if this is a weird tech problem, but it's bugging the crap out of me... especially when I see other pony's profiles with backgrounds and the look fine.

Could you please link me the picture that you are using? I would like to see for myself and see what is wrong with the picture.

The original image was at 1920x1080, but I lowered the resolution and compressed the file to 1200X750, so it would fit the file size cap.

  • 2 weeks later...

The OP's problem got resolved from what I saw on his profile, so there is no need to leave this topic open. I will go and close it, but if you have any more doubts, I encourage you to create another topic. c:
