A green pegasus mare was walking alongside a brilliant scarlet steam locomotives and whistled in awe at the scene that unfolded before her ponies of all shapes sizes and races were clambering onto this majestic train, soon she would be joining them and for the first time in her life she stepped on board squealing with excitement and began to walk down the train searching for a free space anywhere she could find one she didn't care who it was with she was tired and the fly from Woodburough had really done a number on her wings

Meanwhile, at the school, a white alicorn mare with a violet and mauve mane and tail was walking down to the Great Hall. Clover was Head of Gryffindor House, and also taught Transfiguration and Charms. Another of her duties was to meet the new students when they arrived and take them to the Great Hall to be sorted. She placed the Sorting Hat and stool nearby in a cupboard so as to be ready when the first years arrived, and looked about to see if any of the other teachers were around.

Night Shine kept her attention firmly centered on her book as the other students boarded the train. Reading helped her avoid making conversation. She had found an empty room to sit in and tuned the rest of the world out when she opened her book. If she was lucky, she could read in peace all the way to school. Besides, reading kept her mind off of worrying what might happen and what other students might think of her. 

 

She was reading one of her favorite books, Modern Astrology. She had always found it interesting how the movement of stars could tell one what a pony might find in her future. Her cat, Scharfezahn, lounged on the luggage rack above. He'd been lazy and apparently depressed since they left the country. Night Shine could only suppose that it was because he had no barn to hunt rats in.

Many of the teachers were already busy getting ready for the arrival of the students, considering their schedules or gathering materials, ingredients, creatures and other things in preparation for the beginning of school. Three teachers in particular would going about there first day of the year in different ways.

The History of Magic and Ancient Studies professor idly using his magic with horn aglow to create scenes and figures of Equestria's past, reading through the lessons of magical history and the past that spoke of so many witch and wizards. Mythos Gray would move from the scenes about from the goblin wars, to the witch hunts, to the rise of the counsel and the ministry, all the way back to Egyptian mages and Celtic druids. Yet this was not all, the grey unicorn with white mane and tail, was deep in thought as not only would he be working with a certain mare he had not believed he would ever see again. That of dark blue pegasus with a special gift, who had taken position of professor at Hogwarts as well.

The mare in question with midnight mane and tail, Stardream, would be the Astrology and Divination professor. The first she had actually sought after, given her career as an astrology and understanding of the stars and because she wished to pass on such knowledge of the stars, planets, and other celestial bodies. Yet because of the recommendation of another, the headmaster has come to her with the suggestion of teaching that of prophecy and augury. She had at first been uncertain, but after a night's rest and dreaming of what was to come she would agree to such things. The mare would be going over her lessons quietly, going over her notes and items that would be used for the class. Many charts, graphs, and checking of the telescopes would go about to make sure she would be ready.

Golden Dawn, the golden yellow pegasus dark brown mane and tail professor that would teach the Defense Against the Dark Arts, goes about drilling himself in what he would teach as he remembers all he had accomplished as an Auror. Of the dark magic he had to overcome and the dark witches and wizards he had to face. Strange and dangerous creatures, undead monstrosities, and threats that any witch or wizard might have to defend against. Yet he was also there for another reason, to keep an eye on one of the other professors to make sure he did not get into any trouble. He would practice disarming spells, he would cast magic both minor and major so as to be ready both for the first years and the older students while considering his other task.

Yet it would seem the time to meet with the other staff had come, leaving the three would head out to where Professor Clover and others. Each would head out, taking their own paths through the school but heading to the same destination.

Mist sat alone in the empty room of the train carriage. It seemed that no-one wanted to share the same space as a Batpony. Mist supposed it was understandable, Batponies did often have an overbearing presence. Mist sighed hopefully people would be able to look past him being a Batpony and he would be able to make some friends during his first year at Hogwarts.

The mare walked past Mist and using the last of her energy ran away down the train before she eventually collapsed... A few meaters away from where she started, she was tired from flying for three days and was surprised that she didn't pass out before that but her expression of a slight smile showed that she was happy

Mist saw a mare walk past his door and then burst into a sprint, (no doubt running from a bat pony), Mist thought to himself, (i.e. me). Mist suddenly heard a crash in the walkway. He looked outside and saw that the mare had collapsed. Mist exited his cart and went to make sure she was alright, "Hey miss, are you okay?"

Mist saw a mare walk past his door and then burst into a sprint, (no doubt running from a bat pony), Mist thought to himself, (i.e. me). Mist suddenly heard a crash in the walkway. He looked outside and saw that the mare had collapsed. Mist exited his cart and went to make sure she was alright, "Hey miss, are you okay?"

The mare woke with a start and seeing a batpony above her made her scream before she finally came to her senses " a...are you g...gonna eat m...me? I promise I taste horrible! Anyway my dad would be super lonely without me you wouldn't take me away from him would you!? "

Erad walked onto the train where people didn't burge in and heard a scream to his right ''might be why people didn't go here...'' he checked it out and saw a mare on the ground with a bat pony... Wait, bat pony? That seems interesting to him so he walked over there to ask if they were alright ''Are you guys alright, anything i can help with?'' he said with a smile on his face.

Mist was shocked by the mares sudden outburst, "I'm sorry if I offended you I was only joking, But I can see you certainly have enough energy to find yourself a room. Gooday," Mist walked past the other pony and went back into his room, (well), Mist though to himself, (that certainly could have gone better.)

Cresent was happy, nervous, and of all the things for this first year. VERY VERY LATE. the poor colt after bsing droped off at the train station had a ruff time just trying to find the train. One hard way was finding out as one train was moving he herd it going completely the oppisit way, which to his credit of being a bat pony made it colerfull to leave the said moving train. Finaly He found the right train towards Hogwarts.  

He breathed as he remembered what his brother said about the school "don't worry about the ride over its always surpising when you find yourself in a mixed crowd" and surpised he was. Entering the train he herd yelling. He was sure to avoide it as best he can, then found himself blocked by the-

cresent wasn't sure how he'd get to his seat he decided to try tho "um..exusse me... could you plese" he then saw the other bat pony

" Derby stook her hoof out "normally in wood borough if a mare sticks her hoof out at a stallion it means I'm sorry can we be friends and if the stallion agrees he does the same"

"Just preparing for our students, both the old and the new. They should be arriving shortly, as we all know, and I thought I had better put the Sorting Hat nearby so as not to rush later."

Erad stood on the side line and let it past as he wasn't really needed there. He then went into his own room which was empty. He did wonder why then he took it as the people having bad premises of Bat pony's... Really now, thats not really good. He then took his head out of the door to ask once more ''Are you sure that you're 100% fine?''

Derby got embarrassed and walked up to him "look I...I'm sorry Mr I just... Don't like it when somepony makes fun of me or my family. Look I'm sorry okay? " Derby stook her hoof out "normally in wood borough if a mare sticks her hoof out at a stallion it means I'm sorry can we be friends and if the stallion agrees he does the same"

 

"Well I'm not from wood borough so I wouldn't know." said Mist. He smiled as he shook the mare's hoof, "But I suppose no harm done. The names Mist by the way, Mist Twister."

 

 

The train guard blew his whistle and the train started slowly first but it eventually began speeding up until all you could see of it was a red light and clouds of steam

 

"You should probably get to you're room, that is of course assuming you found a room," said Mist, "But if you haven't your welcome to share mine."

"Well I'm not from wood borough so I wouldn't know." said Mist. He smiled as he shook the mare's hoof, "But I suppose no harm done. The names Mist by the way, Mist Twister."

 

 

 

"You should probably get to you're room, that is of course assuming you found a room," said Mist, "But if you haven't your welcome to share mine."

 

"Really!? Thanks Mist! " Derby pulled her trunk up onto the luggage rack it was old and beaten up but it still did its job and you could just read a faint D.L on the front but the L was slightly scribbled out. Derby really hoped that he wouldn't notice the scribble but most ponies did it wasn't that new to her

Cresent gave a little jump as he herd the whistle, he made up his mind and decided to trot by the other ponys and see if he could find his seat, where ever it was, As the train picked up in speed cresent flapped his wings and glided as best he could around the other ponys till he found himself an empty cabin. relaxing he flopped half gracefully on the seat hopping the rest of the day would go by smoothly without more run ins.

he remembered having something Big with him but he couldn't place his hoof or wing on it.....
because he did have it....right?

 

...."oh no no no no!" the young colt looked out the window to see the train moving fast, he wondered if he could fly back. He opened up his window poking his head out seeing the train station whisking away....

with his books, robes, and school supply's needed to get through the school year "moms going to love this letter" he wined

"Well it's kind of weird, but I want to be in the same house my mother was is when she went to Hogwarts." Mist stopped as he knew that the next statement out of his mouth was probably gonna cost him his friendship with Derby, "and the house my mother went to was Slytherin." Mist paused to let the information sink in. "See, I told you it was weird. I'm probably the only pony around who wants to be in that house. I bet you think that means I must be evil right?" Mist sighed, "don't worry, you wouldn't be the first."

But now that you mention it my dad was in Ravenclaw back when he was here " Derby looked out the window and eventually saw a shabby white and sooty black owl fly straight into the compartment holding a letter in it's beak which later sat on Derby's head

 

Mist smiled, "I'm glad to see that at least somepony doesn't hat me because of my choice of house." Mist noticed the owl fly into the compartment. "This you're owl Derby," he said as he lightly scratched the bottom of the owls beak. "Who's a cute little guy?" Mist stopped and sat back in his chair. "Hey I don't mean to pry, but what's the letter say?"
