movies/tv Can YouTube shows be considered Indie TV?

We've had independent movies, comics, music and video games for years. But up until now, there hasn't really seemed to have been an outlet for indie TV shows. But with the rise of services like YouTube, there's now an outlet for creators to make serialised or episodic stories without network executives breathing down your neck. Since YouTube's programming is almost entirely user-created, it makes an attractive breeding ground for lower-budget, less mainstream shows. With this in mind, could YouTube shows be considered indie TV, especially since YouTube already has apps for TV devices?

I would consider it this, yes. Since they technically don't have to contract themselves to any company other than signing the partnering stuff with youtube. It makes more sense for smaller shows and not the really huge Youtubers though, at least to me. They probably do have to go by some strict guidelines from Youtube themselves, but then again I don't know much about the inner workings.

There are so many good shows on Youtube now that people put on that I consider another form of TV now, I never even watch TV anymore. I watch mostly Youtube. XD

Well as of recently, it's starting to.

People tend to post their web animations or web animated series to the internet a lot. Just look at how big a lot of shows like Bee and Poppycat are. Also, they tend to do that to avoid the censors of airing on TV. And hey, even people are pitching their shows to Netflix with shows like Bojack Horseman.

And then there are all the comedy channels on YouTube who regularly post videos on a strict schedule.

So yeah, I would consider it Indie TV seeing as a lot of people do this stuff for the same reasons as the people who make games for Steam.
